Last night had a few drinks with dhs mate and dh at home. All fine, come 12am another friend turns up.
I said I'm off to bed due to dc. Expected dh to be a hour or so no more.
Been kept awake all bloody night by the noise, miracle how dc slept through.
By then it was 6am and I heard dh trying to tell them to go he was tired and ready for bed. One of the friends was saying they needed to stay till they could get in their house till 8am.
By 7am I went down and could see dh exhausted, so I told them both to basically leave now we have dc to get up too soon.

One of the friends was annoyed with dh as the other latched onto them, they could easily of said they were going to bed and goodbye! Dh apologised but heard nothing else.

Am I in the wrong here?
And yes I am very tired and annoyed. Dh has gone to bed and I haven't managed to sleep a wink and I have a extremely busy week ahead. Angry
Just to say we in London so plenty of places open!

Absolutely wouldn’t want this with DC in the house.

Agree. Not appropriate at all.

Changingplace · 12/09/2026 11:01

It’s OPs house, I would’ve kicked them out much earlier if they’d been keeping me awake all night, no I wouldn’t allow this in my own home, weird you think that unusual.

Ignore. They want a reaction, Lorra form.

This is the problem with your generation - you wanted to have kids but weren't prepared to make any adjustments to your lifestyle, you believe adults are more important than children.
The younger generation believe children should come first because they are children.

Dont be so silly and offensive. When I made the decision to have a child, she was my always our very top priority until the day she left home and she ALWAYS came first. I chose not to have a child until we were old enough and my husband was just about earning enough for us to able to manage for me to stay at home with her full time during her formative years to give her what we considered to be the very best start in life. Of course we made adjustments and sacrifices to our lives - huge ones - but having a child didn't mean that our ENTIRE life had to be turned upside down and changed or that we suddenly had to completely stop any sort of socialising. I’d love to know what was wrong with, or how it impacted on, our daughter on the rare occasions we had friends round until very late at night or until the next morning if she wasn’t even aware that they were there? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Of course they were doing cocaine. No-one can drink for 12 hours solid, mixing their drinks and be both very drunk and awake and coherent.

Of course people don’t need to take drugs to stay awake if they’ve been drinking for 12 hours. Im sure some people do, but Ive never found it necessary to take anything to keep me awake.

Offered one the sofa to sleep on but declined and then I pretty much lost it at that point and kicked them out. Doubt they will want to visit again!

You only chucked them out in early morning after they'd kept you awake all night.. You even offered them a sofa to sleep on.

If they don't want to visit again ... Good!!
They have no manners and your DH actually apologised for them. Weak.

amiwronghere1 · 12/09/2026 13:26

Personally I think alcohol alone is enough to keep someone awake unless your absolutely hammered and can't see straight. Never seen the interest in drugs. Did it once in my late teens and hated it didn't know where to put myself.

I don’t agree, eventually that person will conk out. Your husband may well have not had any coke but I can guarantee the later arrival had the coke. Just wipes all your surfaces down, wouldn’t want the kids accidentally ingesting any residue

RancidRuby · 12/09/2026 13:33

Franxi · 12/09/2026 12:16

I can’t believe all these mumsnetters who have to take drugs to be able to stay up late! I can easily stay up to the early hours chatting with friends and have done. I still do it once in a blue moon, luckily my husband and children can sleep through anything! It’s just one night’s sleep, I really don’t think it’s a big deal, especially nothing to banish someone over!!

The early hours of the morning are a bit different to 7am. I should think most of us have stayed up til 2, 3, 4 and even 5am fueled on alcohol. Staying up to the actual waking/daylight hours of the next day is more than likely fueled by something more though.

Annoyedbyhusband · 12/09/2026 13:34

As a one off, which you said it was then I would just get over it and get on with my day. And let him sleep it off and then forgive and forget. It’s not really a big deal once every couple of years for example.
if it happened regularly then I would be making plans to separate but it sounds like this has happened once, so it’s not really a let’s bring the house down situation.

sittingonabeach · 12/09/2026 13:36

ThisCraftyAquaHedgehog · 12/09/2026 11:42

As a one off, it's annoying and ranting on here is fine.

Your DH didn't kick them out, but neither did you.

It's clearly not normal for either of you, so is highly unlikely to happen again.

In 10 years you'll look back and laugh about that awful time when X, Y and Z stayed all blinking night! (You'll probably not still be friends with X, Y and Z anyway.)

No one needs to move out, even temporarily.
Ship DC off to granny's and have a good afternoon nap.

Our DC grannies lived 100 of miles away, so not that easy to ship them off there

mindutopia · 12/09/2026 13:38

They would have been gone before midnight in my house. My sleep is too important to me. And being too stupid to go to bed on time does not excuse one from parenting. Dh would be up and out for the day with the dc even if no sleep. Obviously not driving, but I wouldn’t be tucking him in to bed at 7am while I had to get on with it.

Ally886 · 12/09/2026 13:39

GoldenSandy · 12/09/2026 12:04

That bit was a slight joke

It's a big deal in our house!

Maybe for some people, but all three of them still awake at 7am just on alcohol? 🤔 How are you both able to parent if you've been awake all night?

What the neighbours think!? Is the the 1950s?!

Unfortunately it isn't. There seems to be a lot of selfish people about these days

PinkyFlamingo · 12/09/2026 13:56

amiwronghere1 · 12/09/2026 09:44

This is the thing. We don't. We rarely drink and when we do we are usually in bed by 11/12am latest! I am really pissed off with dh, if I had any idea that was going to happen I wouldn't of allowed it!

Is cocaine involved by any chance?

PinkyFlamingo · 12/09/2026 14:00

Changingplace · 12/09/2026 11:03

OP hasn’t mentioned coke, what are you on about?

I would be amazed if cocaine wasn't involved with them staying up all night! OP seems to be ignoring all the references to it so far.

PinkyFlamingo · 12/09/2026 14:07

Sookisssss · 12/09/2026 12:44

Are you really incapable of staying up late chatting to friends till the early hours without taking drugs? Once in a blue moon where friends are together in a house and there’s no time at the bar we do it. Just wine, no drugs.

I've never taken cocaine in my life so don't assume people saying cocaine is involved take drugs! They didnt stay up late either they stayed up all night.

seahorsessky · 12/09/2026 14:07

If they didn't wake the kids, I'd not bother as a one-off.

PinkyFlamingo · 12/09/2026 14:07

Well dh is dying in bed this is the worse ive ever seen him. Im running on red bull, did have a 20 minute power nap on the sofa while dc were watching a movie.

omghereistrouble · 12/09/2026 14:24

bit confusing? where did the drugs bit come in? cant find it but drugs with kids they would have been out be it 2 in the morning or 8 in the morning.
why did they not just go to a pub with your partner? or if they did why on earth did they come back? your partner should be more considerate as he knows that he has children.

So be amazed 😂 I’ve stayed up all night just drinking before and I’ve never done coke in my life, people have just invented this idea into the story when OP has said nothing of the sort.

Special occasions like Eurovision?

Maybe the poster is Swedish. They take it VERY seriously.
