Why do men cheat if their wife is beautiful?

Hi everyone does anyone know why a man who has a stunning wife that he loves still looks around for other options or cheats? It’s something I can never understand. If they have a gorgeous wife, and a loving happy marriage why do they risk it all for no reason? Thanks

I don’t think cheating very often has anything to do with looks - it’s to do with the cheating partner’s own issues.

Whataflippincircus · 15/06/2026 00:02

Bloody hell, what if you are quite ordinary looking? Like most of us. That must mean it’s ok for a man to cheat. What an absolutely ridiculous thread.

honeylulu · 15/06/2026 00:04

This baffled me in my youth. My husband had a friend who is a real hedonist and a bit of a shagger. His long term relationship was with a really gorgeous, glamorous, clever, funny woman (he was more wanting in most of those - he was clever and funny admittedly). It ended because he messed around with other women (as well as drugs and alcohol benders). He was gutted when she dumped him and said she was the only woman he would have married. I was surprised at this given his roving eye and asked why he had needed to cheat then. His answer was "It's just novelty, sometimes I just wanted to have sex with someone who wasn't HER".

I think that is the answer really. Some men just crave variety and think they deserve it. Some women too but that tends to be more complex - attention, attraction and the chase (and the sex). With men it's simpler. They just want to try sticking their willy in a different vagina.

Why does a dog lick its balls?

Beauty can not hide an ugly heart.

What a nasty question, although I don’t think the OP realises it.

OP - you may be young, but that is no reason to buy into the idea that women’s worth is in their looks.

As PP have said, your question clearly means that it is understandable if less attractive women are cheated on. Are you really that shallow? I suspect not, but that you have been conditioned to think in such a way.

women have so much more to offer than looking sexy for a man. I hope you realise that.

If your self esteem is so low that settle for a man who is so shallow as to only go for looks, you can expect him to cheat force younger/‘ better’ model, or perhaps realise looks aren’t everything and fall for someone “less attractive”.

Aim higher OP. You are more than looks.

Ok so the easiest answer would be that a lot of men just lack morals and when temptation comes their way they don’t have the willpower to say no. But, the real answer is something very different, watch any animal or bird, the male will jump from one to another happily shagging away without a care in the world, men are the same, we are by default programmed to breed but because we are human, society expects us to act in a way that is not animal like, we must balance breeding with moral obligations to ensure society doesn’t view our behaviour as unacceptable and we must ensure that we don’t alienate ourselves by leaving behind a trail of destruction and hurt. Some men can control their animal instincts and some men are just pigeons 😆

It's the thrill. The chase. And a lot of men think with their dicks and not much else. I also don't think some men truly value what they have.
Sorry to hear about your cousin.

@Happyjoe so if you take away everything in life and go back to the beginning the purpose of having male and female species isn’t to breed then? Adam wasn’t created to carry eves bag was he 😂

TheTealHiker · 15/06/2026 00:57

The answer is a lemon - in other words no-one knows for sure, although there are a lot of theories floating about 🙄

Unfortunately in the 20th century there are quite a few women that also don’t value what they have either, i’ve been on the receiving end several times and i’ve never felt the need to cheat. Nice men get shit on, fact, so maybe some men just don’t bother being nice! And i’m starting to wonder whether they have got it right, maybe being nice is not the way forward.

Edited

They haven't got it right, and being treated badly by someone doesn’t justify treating someone else badly.

@SilenceLaySteadily I must stress that i don’t mean i’d ever consider treating someone ‘badly’, it’s not in my nature, but maybe being loyal and committing to one woman is not the future. I’ve either been really unlucky or the ‘nice’ is seen as a weakness that says ‘shit on me’ 😆

Thisgirlcandance · 15/06/2026 01:22

The answer is really simple. Men want variety. Looks doesn't come in to it. It's just that some men can resist the urge but many can't. Nothing spices up a mans sex life more than a variety of partners.

Catullus5 · 15/06/2026 04:56

MenopauseSucks · 14/06/2026 23:40

I remember Hugh Grant & Liz Hurley at the Four Weddings premier, Hurley wearing ‘that’ dress looking so gorgeous.
Not long after Hugh got the horn in LA & was arrested in his car whilst receiving a blowie from prostitute called Divine Brown.
So I don’t think it matters how amazing the woman is in the relationship, if the man decides he wants extra sex then sadly he’ll go for it…

This example is much more succinct than most of the examples on this thread. Grant got horny and got it blown. That is all.

And men will cheat for many of the same reasons women do, ie, they're unhappy or no sex in the relationship.

BabyCat2020z · 15/06/2026 05:10

Men that marry an attractive woman probably have the ability to attract other attractive women , so temptation and a weak nature probably contribute. Some men are sex addicts, some have massive egos and love the thrill of the case. Who knows but tons of men and women cheat, even the ones who are in happy relationships.

Because stunningly beautiful woman can be total bitches that are horrible to be around - maybe you should ask why a devoted wife and mother gets cheated on rather than make it about her being beautiful

Dinggirl · 15/06/2026 05:36

With the beautiful women I've known who've been cheated on, the one the man cheated with was nothing like as gorgeous as the wife! So it's obviously nothing to do with looks! I wonder if it's because they feel insecure? The men in question were no great beauties themselves!

Icanseeasquirrel · 15/06/2026 05:49

My ex cheated with anyone who would have him. Loved the chase, the thrill, the attention. He even said to me ‘ I know she’s not as good looking as you’ like it was supposed to comfort me. He also expected me to panic and try to win him back and fight for him.

SO many married men have tried it on with me. I have a colleague who has broken up three marriages over the years because she is susceptible to it and thinks this time she has found a man who is misunderstood and she can save him from his terrible marriage. Didn’t last with any of them and she’s left a trail of carnage behind her.

I’m afraid nearly all men will cheat if they think they will get away with it. Many cultures have built customs around this inevitability. French mistresses or Islamic temporary marriages to slaves or whatever. Women just have to consider what is stopping theirs from cheating.

I was a good looking, hard working, supportive wife. My ex is now just another middle aged man without domestic and financial security and company of his children because of his choices. I really think women should plan their lives expecting to have to go it alone. Get married before children and maintain financial independence. Don’t trust any of them!

I don’t want another one.

Madreamigajefa2 · 15/06/2026 05:51

Sometimes it is self sabotage. A person feels that their partner is above them so treats them badly because they cannot accept that the partner is genuinely into them. Sometimes it's spite - keep her from thinking too much of herself by showing her that she's not on a pedestal. I've read that women who select men they feel are safe options because they are comparatively better looking/ more successful, are most likely to be cheated on.

Yeah it is so strange. It’s currently happening to my cousin who is stunning & a great wife & mother. She’s intimate with her husband daily so it’s not for that & she sacrificed a lot to marry him. He risked all that just to act like a single guy. Now he’s begging her back but she can’t forgive him. It doesn’t make sense to throw away a wonderful family for absolutely no reason

But you'd think it would make sense if she was ordinary looking?

I find that really disturbing.

TubeScreamer · 15/06/2026 07:50

The thrill and because they can.
i don’t think the looks of their partner come into it.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 15/06/2026 07:53

Why does it matter what the wife looks like? It takes all sorts. Why does any man cheat? ( Not saying any of the following are justified - just reasons) ...Because they don't think it's wrong, because they think they're better, Grass is always greener, opportunity, because they fancy someone else, the relationship isn't all that, they are just not happy in themselves etc etc

iniati · 15/06/2026 07:58

Two things -

Firstly is the only reason you're attracted to someone their looks? If not, why does it surprise you so much that a man might be interested in someone for reasons others than their conventional attractiveness?

Secondly no one else really knows what is going on in a marriage. Your cousin might seem wonderful to you but she is likely to be leaving out a lot.

I will say that in my family and friends circle, when there has been cheating, it hasn't been purely horniness or ego - whisper it, sometimes it hasn't even been the man cheating! - there has been more going on in the marriage.
