Why are most people against being a virgin and single for life?

I'm 35, in london, two paid off properties, I have great friends and family. I've never been interested in relationships and I'm still a virgin, the thought of it makes me sick.

Because it isn’t normal. Argue against it all you want but basic biology instills the need to perpetuate the species. This is done via hormones triggering sexual desire. And from that follows stable relationships to safely raise young. If you don’t and never had the desire then there
is something wrong with your hormone levels or something else is going on. Whether you chose to live like that or get it looked
at is your choice as a free thinking human,
but it certainly isn’t normal.

Society may not deem it so, but I would consider that more ‘normal’ than people who centre their life and identity around a man child who doesn’t even like them.

eh?

Because it means you won’t reproduce or experience one of the truest pleasures in life.

ThatWriterInTheCorner · 25/01/2026 17:27

I'm not against it for you. If you prefer being single and not having sex, then good for you for figuring that out. I'm against it for me, because I like being married and having sex.

I don't want to live in London either, but I'm sure you're very happy there. Life would be pretty dull if we all liked the same things.

Jugendstiel · 25/01/2026 17:28

Most people want that connection and if they find out you have never had it, they assume you are missing out. Perhaps you are. And perhaps we are all missing out on the tranquillity of living alone and not having to constantly accommodate our lives to other people's.

Agree.

But why would you care if someone else had a different view?

I don't. Each to their own. It's none of my business.

BoundaryGirl3939 · 25/01/2026 17:34

I think Op is using the fact she owns 2 properties to show she is a functioning and capable human being. A pushback to those who judge her sexual life yet may not be as successful as her materially.

Nothing wrong with being a virgin. Anyone could hook up online with any loser.

Owning properties, being sexually active or in a relationship doesn't make you any better than anyone else.

If what you considered normal was actually normal, humans would have become extinct long ago.

OneMoreYearMyFriend · 25/01/2026 17:35

Being single by choice is perfectly reasonable. Most people I would imagine couldn’t care less. I’m sure most of us can see the many benefits and joys of single life.

The virginity thing is…strange to mention. How would anyone know unless you told them?! I don’t go around asking people if they’ve ever had sex. It’s private.

OriginalSkang · 25/01/2026 17:37

I couldn't care less about what you describe, OP

I'm 'against' people waiting until they're married to lose their virginity though

Moveoverdarlin · 25/01/2026 17:38

Because humans have sexual desire and it’s in our nature to want to mate. It’s really good fun. I’ve had sex AND paid off property. It’s possible to do both.

Being single is normal. Being in a relationship is normal. Not everyone was supposed to procreate 16 offspring once they hit puberty because there is not enough room on this earth.

We are not animals (imo). We have an intellect, spirit and soul that animals don't appear to possess. Many humans don't want to procreate.

Forming pair bonds and procreating is normal. Millions of years of evolution has made it so. We are animals, no different from any other species in that regard. Evolution is not concerned with your opinions, or how much room is available on the planet.

What does 2 paid off properties have to do with still having your V-plates? I'd still be skint either way.

This. Theres no correlation. Unless
of course you’re paying for sex, that could get expensive.

OP has posted once and it’s been an hour.

I do, thanks!

I put against in quotes because really I just mean that I think it's a very bad idea

I can't imagine a situation where someone would tell me that's what they're planning though. If my DD told me this (and we aren't religious, so it's very unlikely) then I'd absolutely tell her my opinion on it

Kpiallo · 25/01/2026 17:47

Personally I’m not against anyone being single or a virgin. I think everyone should do whatever makes them happy, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
My only thought is that someone who is a virgin is missing out on such an amazing experience (sex is amazing when it is with the right person).

you got the same good advice on the last thread a month ago, which looks like it's you with a name change.

Sounds like your family are tough and there's something about your upbringing that you are finding hard to process. What happened when you read the last thread, did you take any of the advice folks gave? What's prompted you coming back so soon?

Either that or you are a virginity fetishist who likes to hear us all talking about it.

Are most people against it?

or do they just chose differently to you?

OriginalSkang · 25/01/2026 17:48

Oh, and we are 100% animals

Grammarnut · 25/01/2026 17:49

Sex is not a need and people can do without it. If that suits you then that is fine. Why does anyone have to know? And if they know why are they being unpleasant about it or suggesting something is wrong with you? Get better friends.

Not everyone believes in evolution though. Its a theory.

What gives you the right to say what's normal and not?

youalright · 25/01/2026 17:52

I can't say I've ever thought about it and would have no idea if someone is a virgin or not unless they went out of there way to tell me.
