Why are most people against being a virgin and single for life?

I'm 35, in london, two paid off properties, I have great friends and family. I've never been interested in relationships and I'm still a virgin, the thought of it makes me sick.

OP posts:

Not into either of those things either. Difference is that I have indulged in the physical side of romance as well as 2 marriages so I know I can happily do without it all. Maybe that's how most folks think? 🤔

I get what you mean. There is less of a social stigma around being single by choice now but there definitely still is a stigma round being celibate/ a virgin

Yes. It's seen as completely unacceptable. It's the last taboo. It's fine to be into animal sex or bondage or whatever, but if someone simply doesn't like sex, or just isn't comfortable with it or isn't very good at it - that's not ok!

BoundaryGirl3939 · 25/01/2026 17:07

I remember the pressure on people to lose their virginity in secondary school. It was really horrible. So much subtle coercion and many didn't really consent deep down.

Getting intimate with people really changes the dynamic and some people prefer not to go there. Thats absolutely fine.

This is feeling like click bait.

I’m sure it’s been posted before too

Feeling more like something weird.

Jumimo · 25/01/2026 17:12

Do you want a medal op?

LightYearsAgo · 25/01/2026 17:13

Who are these people, how do you know what most people think?

I'd guess most people have no care at all about the status of your virginity

canklesmctacotits · 25/01/2026 17:14

What do you mean by “against”? And what does having two fully paid properties go to do with being a virgin?

I feel sorry for you that there’s a whole realm of human joy that you won’t know, in the same way that you might feel bad that I don’t see what’s so amazing about owning two properties. Everyone’s different, right?

Deathby · 25/01/2026 17:14

I have a friend who's aromantic and asexual, there's whole communities for people who feel like this. He found it valuable to talk to like minded people about it. Oh but he only owns one property though 😜

OP is right. There is disapproval of women not being sexually active and finding a partner in our society. Labels are used like spinster, frigid, etc. Even in this thread people are calling OP odd and inhuman.

OP, there are plenty of women who, in their heart of hearts, feel like you do but they've been programmed to think it's unacceptable. Success is viewed in terms of sexual attraction and prowess. But trust me, plenty of women secretly envy you.

How do you know that ‘plenty’ of women fee that way?! I don’t know how ‘plenty’ of women feel about anything to be honest.

And I couldn’t care less whether someone was a virgin or slept with a new person every night. People can do what they like

FlexiSadie · 25/01/2026 17:14

Because I love shagging and I wouldn't give it up for all the money and properties in the world. 🤷

JLou08 · 25/01/2026 17:16

Are people against it? I think people are driven by their biological drives, which for most is to have sex and form emotional connections. It's not about being against it or for it.

But why would you care if someone else had a different view?

elQuintoConyo · 25/01/2026 17:19

I've got eight paid off properties in London and three in Barcelona. Slept with one man my whole life. Does anyone care...? No. Is there any correlation? No.

Yes, society at large is strongly against it. Media is against it. Portrayals in films and fiction are against it. Virgins in their thirties are portrayed as unhinged, ugly or evil.

Notmyreality · 25/01/2026 17:20

Because it isn’t normal. Argue against it all you want but basic biology instills the need to perpetuate the species. This is done via hormones triggering sexual desire. And from that follows stable relationships to safely raise young. If you don’t and never had the desire then there
is something wrong with your hormone levels or something else is going on. Whether you chose to live like that or get it looked
at is your choice as a free thinking human,
but it certainly isn’t normal.

MNLurker1345 · 25/01/2026 17:21

I believe there are more adult and lifelong virgins out there than we expect there to be.

OP you say the thought makes you feel
sick. Could this be a clinical condition?

Have you told people IRL and they have judged you?

Just as we should not, and on the whole don’t judge people’s sexual preferences, we should not judge a person that has not had sex.

UnemployedNotRetired · 25/01/2026 17:22

You do you, but generally people who have experience of sex are better placed to explain the benefits than people who haven't.

Uhghg · 25/01/2026 17:23

Because sex is amazing and I’d love nothing more than to have sex all day every day if I could.

However, it is not something you’re interested in doing which is absolutely fine.

You don’t need to justify yourself to anyone, just like someone married with an active sex life doesn’t have to justify themselves either.

OneShyQuail · 25/01/2026 17:23

Curious as to how owning two properties correlates to being a virgin?
Noone apart from your inner circle would know anyways.
You do you 🤷‍♀️ you could asexual or greysexual

Sixpence39 · 25/01/2026 17:24

Vast majority of people have sexual and romantic desire. Sounds like you're probably A-sexual and/or A-Romantic.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 25/01/2026 17:24

You crack on, but the human race would die out sharpish if everyone felt the same, OP.

Uhghg · 25/01/2026 17:25

This is very true.

I guess I personally wouldn’t judge but actually there is people who do judge.

It’s usually being virgins for men and being single over 25 for women.

I don’t know why though.
