H ‘gone fishing’

Muggymcmug · 19/11/2025 18:32

H disappeared first thing this morning muttering something about going fishing. By the afternoon I tried to call then sent a message to remind him of something we had on in a couple of hours. Eventually responded to say that he was going to be night fishing & would be back in the morning. In this weather.

On a scale of 1-absolute bullshit, he’s a massive liar isn’t he?! There has been infidelity which he would swear is over.

What, ever? That can't be right.

In commercial places you can sometimes take them. But not across the board.

Married to a fisherman!
This is the best time to go fishing, now until February/March time. Winter fishing is the best. Wearing the appropriate clothing and it’s fine, my husband fishes in the sea from rocks.

Angling in weather like this is how people disappear. The last thing the coastguard needs tonight is having to search for some knob after a tope or spotty dog. Or pretending to be Henry Gilbey after a really big Wrasse (when they're more likely to be catchable in summer, anyhow).

Even if he's after a big old Jill Pike or twatting around with fecking Xander, (does he even have a year round licence?) he'd have been talking about it for at least four days and packing for two whilst wearing pretty much all of his clothes (including charging up his heated socks, headtorch and packing short predator rods, high break weight line and shedloads of mackerel, sardines and lures), not announcing it as he's putting on his running shoes to sprint out the door a few moments later.

Surely most couples in a relationship - do?

Absolutely not! Why on earth would he need to track me or know where I was and vice versa?

Have requested a viewing on the cheapest house to rent locally, waiting to hear back. Don’t really know what to do with myself today & have youngest with me so feel awful about that

...cant you stay in the house and make him move out. He'll probably be pleased

Make sure you’re not dead / get the dinner ready on time? We use it half a dozen times a day.

My10centsworth · 20/11/2025 18:17

Get a locksmith to change the lock while he is changing his bait.

MCF86 · 20/11/2025 18:29

even if he is fishing, just to tell you he's gone and then fuck off and not be contactable for 2 nights with no prior discussion is shit enough on it's own!

Exactly. Leaving OP on her own with the kids and just being uncontactable is bad enough on its own.

Hi op, has he been in touch since, how are you now you have had a few days to think about this,
Stay strong, op

And check to see if his tackle has been used.

Priceless! 🤣

NovemberRedHolly · 20/11/2025 18:57

Its not unusual for some. I worked with a man who went fishing in this weather but he unfortunately died due to the conditions.

purpleygrey · 20/11/2025 19:01

im sorry op. He sounds like a complete cunt. Wishing you all the best.

I’ve been very aware for quite a while that I should leave. I was going to last year. It all just feels so impossible

It's so easy to say but the reality is so difficult. Don't be hard on yourself. At least you know more now so when it does happen you will be 100% sure.
Sending hugs. Xxx

Haven’t heard from him since his message this morning, although he opened my message from this morning early afternoon.
Feeling sick at the thought of him turning back up tomorrow, but also if he doesn’t & having to field question from the kids about where he is

It's not the cheating that's a massive slap in the face.

It's how utterly pathetic the lie is. He either think you're stupid enough to believe it, or he simply doesn't care if you believe it or not.

And if he can't answer the phone to speak to his children, he can get in the bloody bin.

I do hope you can find a practical way forward re. somewhere to live for you and the DC. Wishing you luck x

Completely agree.

It never fails to amaze me how poorly some men treat their partners. And the fact they’ll do anything to avoid a frank conversation.

to top it all off, they can’t even be bothered to lie convincingly

Surely most couples in a relationship - do?

No!! Why would they? That's so weird. I've shared my location with spouse, parent, friend as a one off, when travelling alone, walking home at night, when meeting the person im sharing location with but not just sharing by default.

KeepAwayFromChildren · 20/11/2025 19:31

Muggymcmug · 20/11/2025 11:27

We’ll have to leave this house, it’s not owned and we can’t stay here without him. Have got a viewing booked in for a rental, although don’t feel very optimistic

When you view, depending on the situation, explain your position. I'm a LL and I have rented to women in you shoes just out of compassion as much as anything. It's always worked out.

MynameisJune · 20/11/2025 19:40

Anyone can apply for a council house, make enquiries. I know the list will be long but worth being on there for long term.

GucciBear · 20/11/2025 19:43

Please take it from one who knows. Get the solicitor/legal Paperwork done before he does. Bitter experience tells me that that is the way to go.

I always have mine on with my partner and 14 yo. It’s safety. Nothing weird about it.

🤣🤣🤣
what are you waffling on about?
Wtf wears heated socks?
As for coastguards, I don’t know where you live but here it’s perfectly fine and normal for people to go out at night fishing!!!

If this is out of character, report him missing and say you’re concerned for him.

Plaster it all over Facebook saying has anyone seen him as he’s fishing alone in sub zero temperatures and his phone is off which isn’t like him.

Teach him a lesson

I know it’s wasting police time but he’s gone fishing without his gear and is acting out of character & you’re concerned he could be in danger. It’s not really untrue… he’s got kids - he’s never disappeared before. Report him to the police.

and plaster it over local facebook groups.
