Husband wearing thongs

First of all, I've got no issue with my husband wearing thongs. He's not stealing my underwear or wanting to dress like a woman, he's got thongs designed specifically for men with a pouch at the front - big brands like Diesel and Emporio Armani have made them for a while. They're not lacy or frilly and they look masculine.

The problem is that we've got in-laws coming to stay with us for 3 months (their house had heavy flood damage caused by a leak, and rather than their house insurance putting them up in a hotel for 3 months, we offered to host them as we've got the space).

Our laundry gets hung in the study (which we don't use) as it's a large spacious room with direct sunlight, but it has no door and our in-laws will walk past it to get to their bedroom. There's no other space to hang laundry really, the study is the best place.

I've asked my husband if he can wear boxers/briefs temporarily as it could be embarrassing to see all his thongs up drying when we have guests staying, but he doesn't see the big deal and is like, "It's just underwear, I don't care if they find out I wear thongs?"

Would you be comfortable with this? I honestly don't mind him wearing thongs but wouldn't want him to be teased over it if in-laws found out. I'm more trying to protect him really, but he doesn't see the big deal and doesn't care if they find out.

If he's not bothered about people knowing he wears thongs then fair enough.

Personally I find thongs gross, whether they be on a man or a woman.
I've just got off a long distance coach with a group of teenagers on it wearing the shorts that don't even cover their bum cheeks and the thought of having to sit in a seat where they've been sitting turns my stomach. Absolutely grosses me out the hygiene implications of this fixation these days on baring all ones backside.

Beachtastic · 26/08/2025 14:31

Get (unless you already have one) one of those octopus peg things for hanging smalls, and dry them somewhere else out of sight?

Mrsttcno1 · 26/08/2025 14:33

If he’s not bothered then I don’t see why you would be.

PauliesWalnuts · 26/08/2025 14:33

Just to get this straight - your in-laws are his parents? So you don’t want his own parents seeing his underwear?

ninjahamster · 26/08/2025 14:35

If he’s not bothered then I don’t think you should be!

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 26/08/2025 14:35

Ewww, men in thongs, WHY, its enough to give you the willies🤑😂

RightOnTheEdge · 26/08/2025 14:35

If he's not embarrassed or bothered about his family teasing him then why are you?

KCYA · 26/08/2025 14:35

Your in laws so his parents right? If he doesn’t care and they’re his parents, I don’t see why you should? Do you think they’re gonna judge you for being married to a man who wears thongs? At the end of the day, he’s their son lol

KStockHERO · 26/08/2025 14:45

I really really hate the MN adage - imagine if this was reversed, a man saying this to a woman.

But in this situation, I think it actually applies.

Imagine if your parents were coming to stay. And your husband asked you to wear a different type of knickers for a while because having your undercrackers on display "could be embarrassing"....

VickyEadieofThigh · 26/08/2025 14:47

Thongs are gross. That's the only issue here, not his own parents seeing them.

Livpool · 26/08/2025 14:47

I wouldn’t care tbh

MounjaroMounjaro · 26/08/2025 14:48

Few things would give me more of an ick than a man coming into my bedroom wearing a thong. I don't know whether I'd laugh or cry.

I wouldn't want his family to see his thongs because I wouldn't want to see the pity on their faces as they realised what I had to put up with.

purplecorkheart · 26/08/2025 14:48

Can you just closes the door if his study or hang them in the inside of the clothes dryer. To be honest I doubt his parents are going to be looking at the washing much.

Beachtastic · 26/08/2025 14:50

If he's not worried that his parents will be asking about his Grindr account, then I think you should put it to the back of your mind, OP.

Tiredandtiredagain · 26/08/2025 14:50

They’re his parents, they won’t care!

KateMiskin · 26/08/2025 14:51

Best problem ever! Is he Borat?

engineeredbynature · 26/08/2025 14:52

if my DH wore a thong, i think that I would die laughing😂

Jewelanemone · 26/08/2025 14:54

This is hilarious! Keep the comments coming, I'm having a bad afternoon at work! 😆

dogcatkitten · 26/08/2025 14:54

Are they usually judgemental? It never crossed my mind that relatives staying might be criticising the style of the underwear hung out to dry. Hope he has some nice loud shirts to wash too.

ThunderousSkies · 26/08/2025 14:56

Hang on, you're asking your husband to wear a different style of underwear that he never usually wears, because you're embarrassed that his own visiting parents will see them hanging up to dry. You're worried that his own parents will tease him about his underwear and trying to 'protect' him from the brutal wounding his own parents will direct at him about his underwear choice?

That's pretty weird. You sound as if you're actually hideously embarrassed about his thongs yourself, and as if it's yourself you're attempting to protect.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 26/08/2025 14:56

Firstly ew, secondly they're his parents...if he's not bothered why are you?

I was contemplating asking what the general consensus was on Budgie Smugglers in the ‘style and beauty’ section.

Was at the beach over the weekend and noticed that there was more people sporting a pair than usual (mostly men in their 50s).

wizzywig · 26/08/2025 14:58

Im trying not to laugh that a man is willingly and unironically wearing them. He knows its not April 1st?

mondaytosunday · 26/08/2025 14:58

ok I can’t quite believe this. Who the heck cares? Are they really going to be inspecting your laundry? If he doesn’t care why should you?

Agree with all of this but at the end of the day it's his parents and if he doesn't care.. Maybe he will receive boxers from his parents for christmas 😉
