Husband wearing thongs

First of all, I've got no issue with my husband wearing thongs. He's not stealing my underwear or wanting to dress like a woman, he's got thongs designed specifically for men with a pouch at the front - big brands like Diesel and Emporio Armani have made them for a while. They're not lacy or frilly and they look masculine.

The problem is that we've got in-laws coming to stay with us for 3 months (their house had heavy flood damage caused by a leak, and rather than their house insurance putting them up in a hotel for 3 months, we offered to host them as we've got the space).

Our laundry gets hung in the study (which we don't use) as it's a large spacious room with direct sunlight, but it has no door and our in-laws will walk past it to get to their bedroom. There's no other space to hang laundry really, the study is the best place.

I've asked my husband if he can wear boxers/briefs temporarily as it could be embarrassing to see all his thongs up drying when we have guests staying, but he doesn't see the big deal and is like, "It's just underwear, I don't care if they find out I wear thongs?"

Would you be comfortable with this? I honestly don't mind him wearing thongs but wouldn't want him to be teased over it if in-laws found out. I'm more trying to protect him really, but he doesn't see the big deal and doesn't care if they find out.

Why can you not buy a small airer or one that goes over the radiator and put them in the bedroom? I would do this with my own underwear too if I had people staying .

EcoChica1980 · 26/08/2025 16:23

What earthly reason is there for him to wear a thong?

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 26/08/2025 14:35

Ewww, men in thongs, WHY, its enough to give you the willies🤑😂

Yeh, it gives me the ick. Yuck!

Noshadelamp · 26/08/2025 16:24

Such a weird detailed post with the op insisting she doesn't mind but wants to protect her DH from teasing from his own parents.

This is the epitome of secondhand embarrassment, and who can blame op.

Flossflower · 26/08/2025 16:25

After your ILs have been there for 3 months, the things will be the least of your problems! 😀

viques · 26/08/2025 16:25

If his parents are coming to stay for three months then you will have plenty of opportunity to get acquainted with their underwear hanging around as well.

And you never know, could be they are a thong family,( through choice, not genes!) so there will be mummy thongs , and daddy thongs galore in your house. If you can’t beat them, join them.

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 26/08/2025 16:28

It's unusual for a man to wear a thong but each to their own. They're just pants, MIL might clutch her pearls or clutch her stomach laughing.

UtterlyOtterly · 26/08/2025 16:28

I was in a neighbour's house as I had been asked to witness some documents being signed.

The husband had always seemed a very ordinary, slightly old fashioned man. Pleasant and sensible, very plain and conservative clothes.

There were some very skimpy men's thongs on the clothes horse, no attempt to hide them. His choice, not my business, but I find it difficult to see him in the same light now.

If DH wore them I would immediately get the ick.

Tbf to OP my parents did and still do give me stick over some of my prior clothes and hair cut choices.

I’d likely do it in jest to my children at some point too.

Topjoe19 · 26/08/2025 16:29

If that was my family, we'd be taking the piss forever. This has made me chuckle!

WifeOfAGemini · 26/08/2025 16:29

We stayed with mil in similar circumstances about ten years ago and I remember her commenting that my “undies are very sexy” (they really aren’t! Just pretty and I did have quite a few black thongs as I liked them when I was younger and slimmer).

I was a bit mortified but laughed it off. I don’t think I could you should be annxious about your DH’s pants.

Limehawkmoth · 26/08/2025 16:30

His parents? Well both his mum and dad have seen everything before that those things cover..albeit a fair few years ago now ...I think they can handle it

Now if it was your mum, maybe …but there again her hysterical laughter may help him understand just how ludicrous he is

oh, and expect more things in his x,as presents form his family this year 🤣🤣🤣

Boomer55 · 26/08/2025 16:31

Things look pretty awful on either sex, but if he’s happy, then best leave him be. His body, his choice.

MimiGC · 26/08/2025 16:32

They are his parents. What makes you think they don’t already know? Maybe he wore them when he still lived with them.

Hairshare · 26/08/2025 16:33

His parents, his underwear, his decision.

Branleuse · 26/08/2025 16:34

I think just continue with your own normal routine, and if anyone mentions his underwear preference, then just tell them that its up to him, and he finds it comfortable.

I don't think anyone is going to say anything tbh. I dont think they will give it a second thought

DJSteves · 26/08/2025 16:34

Well there you go. Never knew man things were a thing

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 26/08/2025 16:35

God how big are they that they would actually notice. He got a big butt?

are you worried they will assume they are yours? You got a big butt too?

Thisisbetweenyoumeandtheinternet · 26/08/2025 16:36

This is so weird!
why does he wear thongs and why doesn’t it bother you?!
Also why do you care, they’re his parents not yours! Hang them up in your bedroom if it’s an issue! So weird

mumda · 26/08/2025 16:37

Are you worried they'll think they're yours?

MayaPinion · 26/08/2025 16:37

He knows his parents and if he thinks it’s ok then it’s ok. You never know - it might be a thing in their house. His dad might wear them too.

Muffinmam · 26/08/2025 16:42

Why does he wear thongs?

Does he like the sensation of them riding up his crack?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 26/08/2025 16:42

Thongs can’t even make this bloke look desirable - what chance has the average British guy got 😂

usernamealreadytaken · 26/08/2025 16:43

Beachtastic · 26/08/2025 14:31

Get (unless you already have one) one of those octopus peg things for hanging smalls, and dry them somewhere else out of sight?

I came on to recommend, I love mine! In our house, it's called the socktopus :-)

I wear thongs. They sit comfortably and so long as you get the right fit, they don't ride up anywhere, and you don't have to hoick them out or worry about vpl either.
