Husband wearing thongs

amyt88 · 26/08/2025 14:13

First of all, I've got no issue with my husband wearing thongs. He's not stealing my underwear or wanting to dress like a woman, he's got thongs designed specifically for men with a pouch at the front - big brands like Diesel and Emporio Armani have made them for a while. They're not lacy or frilly and they look masculine.

The problem is that we've got in-laws coming to stay with us for 3 months (their house had heavy flood damage caused by a leak, and rather than their house insurance putting them up in a hotel for 3 months, we offered to host them as we've got the space).

Our laundry gets hung in the study (which we don't use) as it's a large spacious room with direct sunlight, but it has no door and our in-laws will walk past it to get to their bedroom. There's no other space to hang laundry really, the study is the best place.

I've asked my husband if he can wear boxers/briefs temporarily as it could be embarrassing to see all his thongs up drying when we have guests staying, but he doesn't see the big deal and is like, "It's just underwear, I don't care if they find out I wear thongs?"

Would you be comfortable with this? I honestly don't mind him wearing thongs but wouldn't want him to be teased over it if in-laws found out. I'm more trying to protect him really, but he doesn't see the big deal and doesn't care if they find out.

Some of the replies here have been hilarious, but thank you!

  • Someone was confusing jockstraps and thongs. He wears thongs (with a piece of fabric between the butt cheeks), not jockstraps.
  • Quite a few people said they don't like thongs as they're gross. Good for you, but both myself and DH love wearing them, wouldn't wear anything else. He looks hot in them - no need to be jealous over it. If they were frilly and lacy I'd be changing my opinion but these are all male-orientated designer thongs.
  • To the person suggesting DH has a Grindr account - I'd love to see the evidence for that. Why does a man wearing thongs make him gay?
  • No, he's not Borat. Borat wears mankinis, not thongs.
  • I'm not "hideously embarrassed" by it. I fully support his choice of underwear and as I said, he looks hot in them.
  • To the person suggesting monstrous skid marks - not really a problem in my household as we learned to wipe our butts and have a bidet. Plus most of his thongs are black, so wouldn't show up anyway.
  • Parents-in-law are a little more on the conservative side, that was my only fear!
  • Drying in our bedroom on the radiator seems like the best option :)

” Plus most of his thongs are black, so wouldn't show up anyway.”

your husband’s pooh is black? He needs to see his GP.

I have just realised that I have finally turned into a real Aussie, I saw a thread about thongs and was wondering why his footwear was such an issue 😂

Can the people who think a thong designed for a man, worn on a man, is “not masculine” explain what they mean?

Ask the OP - after all, she’s the one who’s concerned about her in-laws seeing that her DH wears them. She’s NOT concerned about them seeing his underwear if he wears boxers or briefs - so obviously, in her mind, all underwear is not equal in terms of its acceptability 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's like say bikinis or nighties are made for women and whilst men could physically wear on they'd look silly.

From a practical point of view women dont have balls, so where do men put them? Surely the front bit isn't sufficient to keep them contained and not have the thong part splitting them in 2? Shock.

The op has greater problems though if her dh has a penchant for wanking with her undies on and her sex toys up his arse.

If they are pegged on one of those sock dryer things you wouldn’t really be able to see them anyway. Your in laws are not going to be going in and closely examining the washing.

Judging by the comment above this one, the thong isn’t the only thing to be pegged.

I was contemplating asking what the general consensus was on Budgie Smugglers in the ‘style and beauty’ section.

Was at the beach over the weekend and noticed that there was more people sporting a pair than usual (mostly men in their 50s).

No women wearing bikinis on the beach though?

Thongs were originally worn by men when first invented, if anything women have co-opted them!

A man's thong has a pouch at the front, that's where the balls go.

At least he's not going commando.

I actually have more of an issue with you drying clothing indoors. It makes rooms damp and a perfect breeding conditions for mould. Dry his smalls outside in half the time.

Once could make a case for his choice of underwear being an attempt to minimise the amount of damp…after all, less cloth, less moisture to evaporate into the house. Quite considerate really 😂

CountryQueen · 27/08/2025 09:57

You’re mad for suggesting the in-laws turn down hotel accommodation. You know they could end up there a lot longer than 3 months.

At least taking the hotel would mean they’ve got options when they find out their son wears thongs

engineeredbynature · 27/08/2025 10:02

yeah, no man looks good in a thong🙄

LaMarschallin · 27/08/2025 10:08

@amyt88

You do know what "jealous" means, don't you?
I realise that accusing people of being jealous is a common insult on MN but nowhere on this thread has anyone suggested that they're jealous about your thong-wearing DH.
Rather the opposite.

pokewoman · 27/08/2025 11:23

I only wear thongs because i find them more comfortable. I recently stayed at my parents house and my mum did some washing for us - my dad hung it out to dry - thongs and all!

Its just underwear. While men wearing them is slightly unusual (and hypocritically, considering my large middle aged arse probably looks terrible in them, I wouldn't find them attractive on a bloke), they're pants. If anyone starts getting silly (other than an internal snigger) over pants, they need to grow up

SmurfnoffIce · 27/08/2025 14:42

What is the weird obsession with balls on this thread?!

It’s like you all think he’s wearing women’s thongs. Surely it’s pretty obvious that men’s thongs are going to be designed to account for male genitalia? Just as women’s T-shirts are designed for boobs and men’s aren’t.

YourBrickTiger · 27/08/2025 16:56

Just say 'before you go to your room, yes your son wears thongs. Now it's all out in the open'.

jackdunnock · 27/08/2025 09:48

Yes, but my other half would have an issue if I stared at the women too long! 😂

wuminty · 27/08/2025 17:30

Hold on a minute - you are glossing over the most important item in your OP. WHY are you taking your in laws to your house for three months when the insurance would pay for separate accommodation for them? Weird. Explain and then let me thong about your answer.

As a straight married male, I wear a thong because it gives me relief from the somatic symptoms I have that are related to SA that occurred when I was a child. It literally helps my sanity. Maybe too much info, but you asked why and I thought I'd share my perspe

ChaliceinWonderland · 13/09/2025 23:27

Omg jm crying with laughter. Seriously? You enjoy sex with this man?

Cantbleedingcope · 14/09/2025 00:09

If that’s what he wears then own that - can’t see the point in hiding it from his own parents!!

Personally thongs on men don’t turn me on in any way. I don’t think any men look good in them and I’m in no way jealous as OP has stated that some of us may be!!

I suppose it’s the same as we all just have our own types in men too!!!

I have a larger hairy, bald headed, tattooed bearded Viking type male and quite happy with his pretty regular short tight boxers! But I also do get that this type just isn’t everyone’s cup of tea!!
