Went on a date today and found out he used 10yo pic

How common is that? Matched on an app, went for a coffee date. When I arrived I immediately noticed that a guy looks older and much less fit than his pics (fit in pics and overweight in real life) So annoyed. Before the meeting he also gave me a link to his linkedin and his pic there is also at least 10yo.
First time happened to me. People usually do upload flattering pics but this is outright lie.

Very disappointing and misleading

gooseygirl · 19/07/2025 23:24

How did the date go?

TomatoSandwiches · 19/07/2025 23:25

You should have mentioned it and then left after whatever excuse he mustered up fell out of his lying gob.

TwistedWonder · 19/07/2025 23:25

Very common unfortunately. Ditto adding a few inches to their height.

I know a few people who’ went on dates and someone completely different to the photos turned up - one was in her 70’s and used her daughters photos, another wasn’t the woman in the photos s d just shrugged when he told her that.

N0Tfunny · 19/07/2025 23:27

I’d have left , I don’t want to date / be in a relationship with a liar.

Neverflyingagain · 19/07/2025 23:29

Did you go through with the date or leave?

Edited to add: I think it's rotten when people do that, very misleading and doesn't help if you are trying to be safe e.g. you've given a friend the photo so if anything untoward happens etc etc

Hi @PoliteEagle
I had this... I drove into meeting place and almost swung the car around without stopping! I quickly decided that, seeing as we had got on so well on phone calls, I should at least see if that was genuine.

I dont know of this os common but that person looked like he was his own dad 😂 I addressed the mismatch in photo v real life. He sais he used the photo as it was his favourite 🤣 (it was an ok photo but never would have dated the "him" before me so it was working for him?

I did go on to date him for around 4 months. We parted ways because he witheld an unmanaged bipolar diagnosis, clingy, tight with money and trying to move in for the last two reasons, I imagine! That was 4 years ago and my last "serious" relationship (I ended the relationship). I have dated but it is pretty horrible on the Apps, in my opinion.

I hope you have better luck
X

Agree. When a guy who’d told me he was 54 and 5’11 turned out to be 60 and 5’8 I was out of there.

I don’t date liars

There's a man on tinder currently using photos from 2012.

How do I know they were taken in 2012, because he's wearing a games maker uniform standing in the olympic park with one of those foam hands.

My mates ex is on Bumble with photos at his 50th birthday claiming he’s 52 - he’s actually 63!

Wolfpinkola · 19/07/2025 23:37

dating apps should start doing live Face ID with photo matching to stop this BS. Grossly misleading

Brionysonluv · 19/07/2025 23:54

It's usually women who get all the flack for lying about age etc. so I'm quite surprised at all these men on dating sites telling porkies but expecting ladies to still date them. I've never tried dating apps. Don't think I ever will.

I mean, what is the point. Nobody is going to buy that once you meet. I always put quite unflattering photos of me up so when we meet, they’re delighted 🤣

LavaChickenLava · 20/07/2025 00:01

Id say it’s common, there’s a guy I went to school with who was 2 years above me in school but on his profile he claims to be 3years younger than me. Not a massive lie but a lie nonetheless. I don’t date but went on as friends encouraged me to have a look but it was full of liars and married men so came straight off.

PoliteEagle · 20/07/2025 00:49

gooseygirl · 19/07/2025 23:24

How did the date go?

I drank my coffee in 20 mins and said I need to go. I was just so disappointed by his misrepresentation that it couldn’t have ended otherwise. He is not ugly or too old. He just let himself go and apparently ashamed of it. But I am not attracted to liars.

I should have yes. Just didn’t have balls for it tbh.

If l had a tenner for each time that happened to me.. scince Tim Berners Lee invented the World Wide Web.. and l started Internet dating.. I'd be very well off.. add " height" into the mix.. men adding two to 3 inches onto their real height.. I'd be very rich. I stopped Internet dating 10 years ago... too much stress.

His height was not mentioned in the profile so I kinda assumed that he is gonna be short (and he was). I don’t mind short I just can’t stand lying.

A few years ago, someone claiming to be 36 tried it on with me via a dating website. He’d obviously forgotten that a) we’d dated briefly about 12 years before and b) that he was 37 then.

EBearhug · 20/07/2025 03:05

I met one whose profile said he was 54. In person, he admitted to being 64. "You'd have never met me if I hadn't put under 60," he said. This is true. But it's a certain level of arrogance to think he's got such an amazing personality that I'd be okay with the lying...

Another complimented me on looking like my photos., as apparently many women don't. I couldn't say the same to him, and he later admitted his pics were 10 years old. (This was the least of the reasons why it was such a bad date, mind you.)

So yes, it's very common, and I think it's women doing ut as well as men. I don't see the point, because as soon as you actually meet (which is the point of dating,) it's going to be obvious.

penmanship · 20/07/2025 03:58

I remember years ago meeting someone who was late 30s and only had one pic on their profile. I thought at the time that he looked really young for his age in his pic - maybe mid 20s. Well, as you can guess, it turned out that he didn't look young for his age, he'd just used a pic from when he was young! The best part was that I was standing waiting for him outside a bar and he was walking towards me - I was staring directly at him the whole time and didn't realise until he came right up to me and said 'Pen?". I totally hadn't recognised him!

Toodles89 · 20/07/2025 04:10

One of my male friends (a young looking 41) says he's late 40s, prefers to date women in 40s and 50s.

He was telling me how one woman had got really angry about it, and he was telling her how she should think herself lucky. I was appalled, good on her for calling out a liar and walking away.

Toodles89 · 20/07/2025 04:16

Whilst I don't condone lying I can understand it. On an app where you choose a date based on very limited info men who are even very slightly outside your preferences don't get a look in. I'd imagine some are lovely so just want to get the chance but they've already blown it by lying.

I couldn't do apps. Joining clubs/hobbies/volunteering and getting to know people and see what happens is hard work but I think better chance of a long term relationship.

Cruisinforcroissant · 20/07/2025 04:21

Do people not video call before meeting for a date ?! I certainly would be with all this nefarious behaviour reported!
