Being so tight with money - part 2

Rockrose94 · 15/07/2024 15:39

Hi all, starting a new thread as the first one on AIBU is nearly full !😱
I copied my original post below but basically my ex is a tight ass who has been financially manipulative and controlling my wine and butter consumption (😂). I ended things yesterday after the hundreds of responses on my OP shedding the light on how bad it was. I need to sort all the practicalities etc but I have went to stay with family to have some space from him. I am obviously still feeling a bit confused but I know he isn't capable of change as even during his grovelling he is still blaming me. So onwards and upwards!

My OP:
For context I have been with my boyfriend for 4 years, we live together and split the rent / bills 50/50. Our take home pay is very similar and I have an extra outgoing of my car finance which he does not. We effectively keep our finances completely separate, I worry how this will work long term as he has said he does not want to share finances at all as he has more savings.

Anyway the main issue just now is 1) he has bought me dinner once in 4 years, for my 30th birthday present. I took him on a foreign holiday and presents for his 30th. I have paid for nights away and meals for us several times when he has said he can't afford it as I wanted to treat him. I don't do this often any more as it's never been reciprocated 2) we split all food shops evenly but usually do our own meals during the week as I am dieting. He just stood for half an hour itemising up every item on the food shops over the weekend to come to the point that I owe him £2.50. Note that he will charge me half of the food we share but he would likely eat 2/3 of the meal. AIBU to be tired of this? It feels so tight , do other people itemise everything and charge their partner almost to the penny?!

@TheFormidableMrsC I agree with you, I was with an arsehole who wouldn’t let me flush my wee, he insisted we wee upon wee as it cost 5p per flush!

My showers were timed, God forbid if I spent longer than 3 mins

He would drain the cold water from the shower and flush his shit down with it, leaving wet shit stains all over the floor 🤮

He was a complete penny pincher, thank god I walked out

How do these men become this way? I’m curious to know.

If you really want a treat, try the Bridel French butter with sea salt flakes in - it’s on another level of gorgeousness.

Have you tried Bordier butter?? Sublime.

"It comes from the finest organic milk collected between Brittany, Normandie and Pays-de-la-Loire, all within 100 km of our workshop in Noyal-sur-Vilaine. The cream from whole milk is matured then churned in our partner dairy a few kilometres from the Maison Bordier workshop."

I dated a man who gave me a headtorch when I asked if we could put a lamp on one evening rather than sit in the dark. It was one of the rechargeable ones and he used to charge them at work. I dumped!

Well done op. You'll be so happy without the penny scrimping. It's no way to live!

This truly takes the cake! I'm dying. Thanks for sharing - kinda makes OP's look like a winner.

😂 I should have just named this thread "butter gate" or something! You know what, perhaps I will branch out and try some different butters as part of this new life!

I'm loving this! Anyone else here Team Shirgar? My SIL put me onto it. Amazing stuff.

Also partial to a bit of the smoked salt flavour Buerre Bordier.

GameOfJones · 15/07/2024 21:00

Maybe make it your mission to try all the artisan butters out there.

An excellent plan. The West Country butter with sea salt crystals from Tesco is divine. At the risk of sounding like Nigel Farage 😂, no point buying French or Danish butter when we make amazing butter in the UK!

Have to say this light-hearted butter chat has been just what I needed today 😊 Thanks again all for all the support and cracking a joke when needed!

That's my favourite Smile I have to make a special trip to Sainsbury's for it.

The Lidl West Country butter with sea salt crystals will do at a push Wink

It was that he hid a tub of butter in the fridge and when I confronted him it's because I was using too much of it so he didn't want to split it. Not really a big deal but another good example of his weird tightness 😂

Homemade butter is the best, but I don't have a churn so have to shake it for hours and hours in a jam jar (I only make it when I have some cream about to go off). Pre-burns the calories I am going to consume when I eat it, so it's not all bad.

If you let the cream sit at room temperature for 3 hours it’s much much quicker

I'm now desperate for lashings of creamy salty butter on fresh tiger bread, it's doing my no snacking efforts little good Confused

RE. Butters - done some research and information is that Kerry Gold Butter is the best for cholesterol because the cows are only feed on grass.
