24 hours of tinder… give up or keep going?

First time on tinder and just wondering if what I’m seeing is normal after 24 hours on there. I must have gone through over 300 profiles… and I would say 1/3 of them are just not men I could/would fancy. Another 1/3 are men with missing/no teeth, sticking their middle fingers up at the camera (does that really attract some women🤷‍♀️) writing things in their bios like “no psychos”, “no drama” which I take to mean “if you ever disagree with me then you’re causing drama or you’re a psycho” some bios have actually got angry rants about women. Would they really go up to a woman in a bar in real life, stick 2 fingers up at her then rant about how women are this & that?

Then …out of the last 1/3, theres the men who are clearly gym obsessed with biceps bigger than their heads (not for me), the sporty ones where they are cycling, wind surfing and climbing mountains but you can’t actually see their face, some good looking ones but who are clearly just after sex or someone “non vanilla”. Then theres the teeny weeny tiny handful that I actually swiped right on …about 8 men I swiped right for, 4 matched but no messages yet and the other 4 are probably inundated with matches, not active or I’m just not their type. Sigh.

@Wigglytuff345 haha. Just seen one profile whos bio just says…. I can wipe my own arse. 🤣 48 hours later of tinder and my expectations have come wayyyyyyyyyy down !

I shouldn’t laugh but that’s the funniest thing I’ve read in years. My first thought was so what, my dog can do that ( scoots his bum along the ground if it feels grubby)

Is anyone else wondering where @Dadjoke007 lives, which app he's on and, most importantly, who he supports? 🤔😁

There's some happy stories on here, like @SpringleDingle posted, which is so lovely to hear, but it's the hope that kills you!

My experience was from last year, and hoping there is no need to go on them again 😀

but at times it did feel demoralising. My rule was to only like someone who had put a decent amount of pics up, of reasonable quality and who could write a bio. Not not get as many matches as I thought I would (at the risk of sounding arrogant) and it surprised me how many matched and either didn’t message or gave noting back when they messaged. Some good ones though and I think I can tell within about 3 messages if this will lead to anything.

but to anyone out there, there will be some great people, it’s just a bit of a hunt to find them.

A lot depends on the area you live.

80% of guys on dating apps are undateable.

So there's 1/3 men you don't like because they are sticking their fingers up at the camera and saying "no psychos", which makes them sound like yobs in my mind. That's understandable. And then there's 1/3 of men you don't like because you suspect they want sex and no relationship. That's difficult to determine without talking to someone, but OK, it's still understandable.

The thing I don't understand though is that you've said 1/3 of men are men that you can't/won't fancy. Why not? What's wrong with them? These men don't fall into the other two camps, so what were the issues?

MargotMoon · 31/05/2024 08:24

I used to screenshot my faves, the best were a man with an air rifle standing next to a flash car that clearly wasn't his trying to look hard, and a man sat at a table with an empty pint pot and a bottle of Beefeater captioned, 'When I'm in my kitchen I like to drink gin' 😳

RoséProsecco · 31/05/2024 09:37

@shuggles - in Bumble there's a "sex positivity" symbol for likes/hobbies - I usually avoid ones who put that.

And on most apps there'a a feature which asks what you're looking for.

Many men my age (50's) will choose the "something casual/short term) or "intimacy without commitment"section - so at least they are honest & I can avoid them like the plague.

In terms of "fanciability" I'm not as picky as I was. 20 years ago. Bald is fine, as is a bit of a tummy.

But excessive tattoos, obese, tongue sticking out, topless shots, teeth missing, really old/grainy photos are a no.

Some things are personal (long beards give me the ick).

Tinderella24 · 31/05/2024 09:50

@shuggles I agree with @RoséProsecco - the others are personal preference, where I just don’t fancy them, or where our lifestyles/interests/hobbies are just worlds apart. I’m also not a fan of someone covered in tattoos, I don’t mind the odd one here or there but if their chest /back is covered in them or any neck /face tattoos that’s a personal turn off. Long beards is the same for me, I always wonder what’s lurking in there?! 🤣

@WhyArePiratesCalledPiratessss if you have to choose, which one would you say was the best?

Either bumble or hinge.
Tinder is grim. PoF isn't much better and elite was a really expensive dumpster fire.

Ugh I hated Tinder for the (very brief) period of time I was on there... I think it attracts a certain clientele who are more after no-strings-attached. If you're wanting to meet someone try Hinge, my experience on that was great, loads of nice guys genuinely looking to meet someone and I also met my wonderful now-partner on there three years ago!
