Lost my husband to conspiracy theories

I 30 f married my 40 m husband two years ago.
beginning on the pandemic he started to get into Qanon and other conspiracy theories ie like the earth is flat, Tom hanks is evil and the mainstream media lie to us all the time.

it's got to the point where he's now questioning about our children's school and also buying gold and silver so we have something to trade when the banks collapse.

now he's very aggressive towards me and shows me no respect when I don't listen to his videos or when I tell him to stop when he's telling our young pre school children the earth is flat or Jesus birthday is in April.

I know my husband is still in there as it comes out sometimes and I can have a proper conversation with him.
I'm just lost and don't know what's best as the more time goes on I can the old him fade away.
am I alone? Or is there others out there like me who's got to the point of no return?

The indisputable proof that the earth is not flat is twofold. First and foremost, if it were flat, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now. And if that doesn't shake him out of it, maybe the photos we took when we went up and had a look will.

If he doesn't believe that we've ever been into space, it's fairly easy to prove as there are ways to do so yourself.

One of the funniest comments have read on here. Will have to use that cats remark from now on.

This guy has some interesting takes on conspiracy theories, Q Anon etc and how to rescue loved ones from their cult like grip.

You need to protect your children and yourself. It may be possible for him to find a way back but he's subjecting you and the kids to bullying, a violent atmosphere and he's getting you into debt. You have to be prepared to leave. I hope you have told family how bad things have got.

I wish you luck.

I'd read that there was evidence Jesus was actually born on September.

But anyway. So what?

It's doesn't matter when he was born. The date to celebrate his birth is the 25th December and that's that.

If someone wants to believe the earth is flat, then let them. It's their right.

For instance, the people in Australia and New Zealand aren't hanging off the earth upside down are they? But in theory, they should be.

But each to their own. It's all good.

And some conspiracy theories have been shown to be true..

This isn't North Korea. We can believe different things. 👍

How can you believe different things when some things are actual scientific fact?
How is it a right to believe in nonsense that can be easily disproven?

(Not counting religion. Can't prove that one way or the other)

Of course no-one's hanging off the face of the earth -gravity! So there is no 'in theory' as the theory is rubbish!

You can believe what you like. But if you can't back it up with proof it's not a fact

I'd have to leave.

I don't think these people can be reasoned with and I could live with one.

Helplessbeth · 10/12/2023 21:01

I never said he can't have his own opinion.

it effects us as a family because our daughter who's 5 cant even watch frozen because Disney are evil.

wont let our children participate in the school nativity (we have twins) because the information is wrong and we are brain washing them into believing Jesus was born on Christmas Day.

we can not drink from tap water as the elite want to poison us.
can't even have a debate with him without it turning violent because I'm a sheep to the curriculum.

The list could go on.

Well tap water is full of aluminium and chlorine but it’s really concerning he thinks the government are monitoring him

MrsMorrisey · 10/12/2023 21:31

He should definitely not be talking about these things in front of children

His personality has probably changed because he's reading and getting involved in depressing crap.

On the other hand on some of his theories, he is by probably right 🤷‍♀️

Tom Hanks? Bit far. But Hollywood is hardly a moral high ground.
Flat earth? I don't think so and that's a bit odd.
School teaching kids stuff that isn't helpful? Totally! I'm a homeschooler now because I believe I can teach them better and they get way more focussed learning.
Buying gold and silver?
Not much point cos lots were doing that and the price has dropped and you can't trade with it. Good to have a cash stash too in case the internet banking goes down which it has done temporarily.

In terms of your marriage only you can determine what to do but he may come back to his old self.
What does he say when you talk to him about it?

Helplessbeth · 10/12/2023 21:43

But drinking out of plastic bottles isn't the best either?

Maybe not. I haven’t looked into that yet.

No but neither is eating processed foods and living next to a phone tower.
You've just got to get through life happy and as unscathed as possible.
Everything is bad for us these days, some of us get cancer from these things, some of us don't.
Who knows why?
Your DH breaking your make up is odd, why would he do that?
