I remember my ex using similar tactic - absolutely driving me insane and then when i did slam the door he would use it as evidence of how emotionally unstable i was

so i dont but for a second that she felt abused because he slammed a door at her taunts

Its called Depp v Heard.

It is still available for me, but I am not in the UK.

Doesn’t seem available in the uk.

AliciaLime · 12/09/2023 15:02

But he’s such a great guy, @paperflowers55! It’s totally normal to talk about fucking the corpse of the wife you burnt!

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 12/09/2023 15:13

I watched the trial at the time. They're both awful as far as I can tell and were endlessly recording and setting each other up.

He was aggressive, misogynistic, drunk, substance abuse problems. She shared the drink and drug problems, lashed out at him and is manipulative.

Between the two of them they trashed that property in Australia and were an embarrassing mess.

JD has people who will never talk out against him as it presumably benefits them to keep him on side. Fans defend him to the hilt but he was a fucking mess.

His text messages were truly disgusting.

They never should've married.

The documentary cuts out far too much to be of any use.

I don't think it shows a great deal of maturity and self-restraint to act like that. in my relationship if one of use gets angry (maybe only happened once in 5 years), we leave the house for a walk to clear our heads. no door slamming, no hitting the kitchen cabinets. no shouting. you cannot put this on your partner. if you cannot control your anger then seek professional help.

never mind that everyone keeps going on about male victims of domestic abuse/violence yet not a single peep bothered to advocate for Gregg Brooks.

If you look at the video he was angry because he had news that morning that someone had ripped him off big time, he banged a door and caught his hand and wrapped a towel round it and then started the tantrum of banging doors, more annoyed at the innanimate object that had just hurt his hand.

Context is everthing.
And it's not clear but it has been suggested his mother passed away that day or very close to that day.

TheGhostofLoganRoy · 12/09/2023 22:16

Depp has a history of violence and abuse going back decades.

Whatever Amber Heard did, Depp is 100% an abuser.

Oh but that guy must have ‘NPD’ or be ‘Cluster B’ or have just looked much too happy when he told someone about it. Or maybe he got a bit angry too once. And Johnny is such a nice guy so if he did that he’d have a really good reason. Or maybe the man deserved it, or…. Or….

that video was enough to induce severe anxiety in me, having grown up with an angry father who would react quite similarly to him.
stop finding excuses for his lack of control over his anger. if he cannot find coping mechanisms for his issues he needs to seek professional help. he's a grown man and father of 2. this goes for anyone. I'd never slam cabinet doors like that in my own home, if I have to get to that stage of being angry I'll go gym or go for a walk to clear my head.
there's always been an aura of violence around him, he needs to get clean already, he is an old man abusing drugs, at the time of his relationship with Heard he was full on abusing, this is a man with 2 young teenage children at the time. he should have done better by them and by his ex partner Vanessa who did nothing but support and defend him, all he had to say about her was that she was a "withering c__t"
then there's that poor man he punched on set.

paperflowers55 · 12/09/2023 22:35

forgot to add that according to current consensus around DV, slamming doors or breaking dishes is a form of emotional abuse that is sometimes used to make the person feel bad or weak.

Slammed door | Mumsnet

Is shouting and slamming doors ever ok? I’m so upset but he said I caused the argument. The kids heard it all.

I haven’t watched the TV series but I saw the news coverage of the USA trial, which appeared to be an absolute pantomime. Wasn’t there a trial in London in front of a High Court judge (minus the media circus) prior to the LA proceedings, in which Heard’s evidence was preferred? Perhaps I’m mistaken…but in any event the USA proceedings seemed to be a choreographed PR event dominated by a legion of so called experts who concern themselves with ‘appearance issues’ and ‘presentation’. I was curious as to why Depp’s former partner didn’t give evidence, and I thought the evidence of Ellen Barkin was telling. The messages sent by Depp were appalling, horribly violent and depraved. What a messy world occupied by Depp and Heard. He seems to have the knack of earning many millions and indulging in the most juvenile types of behaviour. His fan base seemed very cultish. The studios invested millions in promoting his image, I think Heard had far few resources to manage the presentation of her case, and in the USA the person with the biggest, deepest pockets usually wins.

RandomForest · 12/09/2023 22:38

Johnny is such a nice guy so if he did that he’d have a really good reason. Or maybe the man deserved it, or…. Or….

No one thinks Jonny Depp is perfect by any means, he's a spoilt movie star who likes pretending to be a rock star with his musician friends. He was also a complete fool led by his dick to leave his wife and family of longstanding for a young woman.

It's pretty much the norm in Hollywood circles, still highly humuilliating and painful for Vanessa, it's almost karma that his new bride ended up being far more emotionally stronger than him.

He didn't know what hit him with Amber, and it wouldn't have mattered if Jonny was young and the same age as her, Amber has a personality disorder which means she destroys whoever she comes into contact with, if that happens to be someone very close they will become a shadow of themselves, no matter how rich strong or powerful, she needs to win, that's the nature of a narcissist.

All this sympathy for Amber, she doesn't need it, she is an incredibly strong woman with little feeling for others, I've no doubt Jonny will go onto meet someone and fall in love as he did and was capable of with Vanessa, it's highly unlikely he will meet someone like Amber again.

Amber on the otherhand I can't see her in a long stable relationship for some reason.

I think the clue's in the name 😂

FiddleLeaf · 12/09/2023 22:45

The both seem like dramatic scum bags.

I do think the age difference and how he approached her is not talked about enough though. He was the 48 yr old star & she was an unknown 25 yr old. It’s a crazy power dynamic.

Sadly, victims of DV in the public eye will be far less likely to speak up after Heard was destroyed in the media.

FrippEnos · 12/09/2023 22:59

Heard might have been "destroyed" on SM but she had most if not all of the MSM on her side.

FrippEnos · 12/09/2023 23:04

You are mistaken as are those that spout the nonsense that JD was convicted of DV in an English court.
The English court was about whether the newspaper had due cause to print that JD had committed DV give the information and source.

I disagree. I think victims of DV (like JD) at the hands of people with a personality disorder (like AH) are much more likely to speak up.

This is so ignorant and deeply offensive. What is the relevance of the personality disorder in your statement? "At the hands of people with a personality disorder" like that somehow makes someone an automatic risk because of their diagnosis? Educate yourself

I said "at the hand of people with a personality disorder (like AH)"

So referring to Amber Heard's malignant narcissism .

frantoia · 13/09/2023 01:36

Description of malignant narcissism from Wikipedia:

Malignant narcissism is a psychological syndrome comprising an extreme mix of narcissism, antisocial behavior, aggression, and sadism.

Do you find that offensive as well?

I’ve so far only watched about 15 minutes but the footage of him kicking and slamming the cupboards was really violent and I can imagine very intimidating for her.

This. They can both get in the fucking bin
