New relationship he wants us to do STI tests

Kitten2 · 06/07/2022 22:20

New partner wants us both to test for STI.

He says he wants me to have one before we do oral again.

We use condoms for PIV.

I guess he is right. But this is the first time I've been asked to do one. Felt a bit weird being asked to, but yes, he's right.

How do I do one? Is it free?
Can anyone help me I haven't been tested since Uni many years ago.

You can go to your GP

Temporaryname158 · 06/07/2022 22:22

It’s not the most romantic of statements I know but it shows maturity I think and taking care of your health is great. Also shows a good ability to communicate

Wnikat · 06/07/2022 22:23

You go to the GUM clinic at your local hospital

MuddlingAlong1234 · 06/07/2022 22:23

Yeah it’s free. Local sexual health clinic. Or possibly GP surgery. Some surgeries may have testing with a nurse appointment. Mine does but not sure if this is nation wide.
:)

AllyCatTown · 06/07/2022 22:24

My GP’s surgery has a community wing where that’s done. Search for whatever is in your local area. It should be free.

Itwasntmeright · 06/07/2022 22:24

Do oral again? Isn’t it a case of stabled or and horse now? I mean if he asked you before you did anything then fair enough, but now you have it feels a bit off, like it may be some weird trap.

honestly after that I’d get the test, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you’d caught a dose of something.

what is your gut telling you about this guy OP?

GettingItOutThere · 06/07/2022 22:24

jesus christ - marry him! haha

go to your local sexual health clinic or GP for reccomendations

i agree with him - if more people tested everyone would be safer!

MaJoady · 06/07/2022 22:25

Your local sexual health clinic can post you one that you do yourself and send off for the results. It's free

PetersRabbitt · 06/07/2022 22:25

You can order online and do it at home. Just Google it.

MaJoady · 06/07/2022 22:25

Google for it on your local areas sexual health clinic

DariaMorgendorffer · 06/07/2022 22:28

Sounds sensible to me Smile

WeeHaggisFace · 06/07/2022 22:32

I'd be wondering why it wasn't before tbh

Kitten2 · 06/07/2022 22:33

The one I've seen on a pharmacy website is just under £60!
I hope my gp surgery do offer for free. That seems quite a lot.

It depends on the local area, in my area its through a separate clinic (so GP wouldnt do it) if you google sti check in your area it will advise. Some of them post you a test kid to your home and you send away for results.

Me and my now husband did it when we first got together. I'd be pleased if someone suggested it as it shows a sensible nature and open attitude to sex

Cannylaughs · 06/07/2022 22:36

Very odd that he is asking you to do this after sexual contract. That's a red flag to me.
Before sexual contact. Sensible.

Naenaespet · 06/07/2022 22:36

I made my new partners always do one before I’d allow any non protective sex.

you can order one online

toooldtocarewhoknows · 06/07/2022 22:36

Gum clinic. I applaud this, if only more people did this there would be much less heart ache later as it picks up silent infection that can cause infertility.

It's sensible, responsible and should you both settle down together you've started properly.

I'd say it was a green flag.

Lysianthus · 06/07/2022 22:38

There are sexual health clinics everywhere and they're free. He sounds v responsible and I'm actually surprised that you didn't take the lead on this one unless you knew he'd been celibate for ever. It's a normal thing, and everyone should look after themselves. I don't know your age but most undiagnosed STDs are in over 50s. If he's offered then it's a sign of caring about you, and himself, but it is a really positive thing to have done. Hope he's a keeper, OP.

toooldtocarewhoknows · 06/07/2022 22:38

It's completely free, along with contraception. Google GUM clinic or sexual health near you.

11GrumpsaGrumping · 06/07/2022 22:39

Op where are you based? You should be able to order a free home testing kit. I know most of them as I work in the field.

Justmuddlingalong · 06/07/2022 22:39

It's odd that each of your mouths and genitals have been in direct contact and now he's decided to practice safe sex. Still, better late than never.

cantsleep2022 · 06/07/2022 22:42

Most of them do it postally now

Brainstorm22 · 06/07/2022 22:44

You can get them from sh24.org.uk/

It's really simple.

pedropony76 · 06/07/2022 22:46

Just Google it.

If you’re in London you can order a home kit off of shl.uk if not you can order from sh.uk but it depends on your area.

He’s doing the right thing in asking you to test first

WhenDovesFly · 06/07/2022 22:47

I'd be wondering why he was requesting it AFTER you've had sexual contact (before we do oral again). Why did he not think to ask before you'd had oral sex before?
