The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Step Into Our Christmas Thread!

Hello, I'm Mouse Smile

A HUGE welcome to the Bus!

This is the one and only Gerald. Over the years, we've travelled far and wide gathering some truly remarkable Babes along the way, all of whom have been (and remain to be) at different stages of their own personal journey to sobriety or controlled drinking, depending on what it is that they want to achieve.

We have those who drink daily, those who drink occasionally, and also those who have been sober for some time. The one thing that you won't find here, is any judgey knickers! Grin We're ALL here because at one point or another, we've hit our own "rock bottom" and then smashed the shit out of the FUCK IT button! (makes a note to order a new FUCK IT button)

This is without doubt one of the hardest times of the year for many of us, what with Christmas parties, alcohol on tap, supermarkets who have offers galore of various tipples stacked from floor to ceiling, and EVERY advert on TV shows you what an amazingly cool person you can be if you were drinking whatever brand of alcohol they're flogging! Even Christmas puddings and Brandy creams are tempting fate because as soon as you digest even a small amount of alcohol, it makes your body crave more, just like smoking, medication and recreational drugs................

Then there's the gifts that you're given! Champagne Truffles, Liquors, wines, spirits, you name it! So unless you've told people about your planned journey, people assume that buying gifts like that completely acceptable. So, some may feel obliged to consume such gifts and why not? It's Christmas after all. Then we have the New Year festivities..... parties, friends and family over to have drinks because you'll stop drinking after New Years' Day won't you?

It's so damn hard not to drink if that's what you've been doing all year anyway before you even reach this time of year!! How will you cope with your Great Aunt who will check for dust by running finger over ever surface, or Uncle knobhead who will be there in his cream suit, with that suspicious stain on it and his burgundy shirt asking for a Babycham! Also, let's not forget the in-laws/out-laws! We can sometimes put so much pressure on ourselves that we convince ourselves that we DESERVE that glass or seven of wine etc.

At the end of the day, if you want to drink, then you will. I appreciate that doesn't sound supportive but it's certainly true in my case. As I have said before, the most amazing thing about this Bus and those who travel along with it, is the fact that every single one on board has a story, a reason why they're here, and we all need support in one form or another. Yes, alcohol may be the one thing that we ALL have in common but it goes way deeper than that doesn't it? Life, love and laundry for a start! Grin

Even if you're not ready to stop or cut down on your drinking yet, that's fine! You're still welcome to hop aboard the marvellous Gerald. We're a very varied bunch of Babes but we welcome anyone in need of support, even if you're not ready to say everything that you want to yet, or you feel the need to name change, that's fine! Just know that we're here for YOU for as long as you need to be.

Here's some news for you all.
DP and I are eloping!!!! We are heading up to my beloved Highlands and have a perfect spot in mind. We decided a couple of nights ago with all that's gone on that life's too short and just go for it. So I have a humanist celebrant , a dress on order and just booked a photographer. It will be just us, the dogs and two random witnesses (unless any of you lovely people want to volunteer)!

dementedma · 03/03/2019 09:01

mint how wonderful! What brilliant news, really made me smile when I read it. You have had such a tough time - so glad something lovely is happening. I would LOVE to be a witness - pm me the date and place. I might be in town!

venusandmars · 03/03/2019 09:41

Me too mint pm me the details

Craftycorvid · 03/03/2019 10:23

Congratulations, Mint that’s great news! Flowers

All Babes to wear hats and take a selfie....faces can be hidden for anonymity but it will be fun for us all to join in on mint's special day.

MintToBee · 03/03/2019 20:54

I will let you all know the time and date don't you worry. You've all been an amazing bunch of people. Flowers

LookingforHope · 04/03/2019 00:14

OMG a bus wedding!!! Squeeeeeee Grin. Congratulations lovely Mint Ooooh how thrilling Cake

LookingforHope · 04/03/2019 00:16

Ma and Venus .... you are DEFINITELY the Scottish Thelma and Louise but without the kamikaze ending! (Cagney and Lacey maybe? That would be a good up the aisle tune too!)

Craftycorvid · 04/03/2019 11:23

Hm the ‘C&L’ theme as bridal march? Challenging but you could throw some nice syncopated moves as you go! I think Barrie the squid needs a bow tie for the occasion too. Grin

MintToBee · 04/03/2019 12:26

I'm tempted to have ABBA actually. Super Trooper. Grin

bellalou1234 · 04/03/2019 12:28

Can i jump on the bus please. Sick of drinking a bottle of wine each night and waking up with guilt..x

CaraB76 · 04/03/2019 19:03

Hey mint I’m a Scot and also love the highlands - sounds amazing!

Just checking back in. Feeling proud of myself as haven’t been drunk since my first post. I’m being much more thoughtful about how I drink. Not just opening wine because it’s Thursday onwards.

And when I go out, I’m having a G&T and then red wine. It’s so much better than the white wine monster I’ve been, I’m less hyper and shouty, and hangovers better.

I wish I didn’t always have to drink count or wait until others topped themselves up until I do (ie making sure I’m not drinking too much). I wish moderation or any drinking wasn’t such a calculated effort.

But it’s better and calmer and so far I’ve been in control.

Friends have planned a boozy night out on Saturday as one got a promotion - that will be my test... They are friends I rarely get completely plastered with tho...

dementedma · 04/03/2019 19:45

welcome bella. I know that feeling! You will get lots of support here

MintToBee · 04/03/2019 20:17

Ma - you rock -- amazing!
Mint - you rock - amazing!

So delighted for the both of you. And if Ma and Venus are your witnesses, Mint, what could possibly go wrong.. Seriously, just fabulous all round and I will raise a Becks Blue to you on the relevant date. Keep us posted.

All good here. Can't offer any equally amazing news, but on the positive side at least I haven't yet committed any actual violence over effing World Book Day costumes. I am trying to be more mindful and less wasteful these days so have reluctantly declined the obvious Amazon option, but in doing so had slightly forgotten I don't have a creative crafty bone in my body. Trying to persuade DD2 that she can dig out an old pig onesie and recreate something from Animal Farm. Not succeeding.

efc1878 · 04/03/2019 21:00

mint what lovely news, so exciting! I will have a hat on and toast you with a cup of tea!

small sigh to world book day- luckily my daughter school are just having a special lunch so I’ve dodged it this year!

bella welcome- do you have support? I’ve been a bottle of wine a night drinker. Things that helped me were sober podcasts, gym/running, af beer and enjoying not having hangovers.

cara well done on the progress sounds like you are doing great!

Hi everyone else. I’m on my own for 3 weeks- Dh is away with work but I’m not making it an excuse to drink I’m going to have quiet few weeks and a tidy house!

venusandmars · 06/03/2019 11:09

So after all the exciting news of new jobs and weddings, how is real life for everyone on a cold, wet day (here at least)? In the routine day-in, day-out of work, family commitments, cooking, washing cleaning, getting up and going to bed it can be very tempting to look for excitement in a glass or a bottle.

But guess what, life doesn't have to be exciting every day and sometimes I love the non-excitement of a normal mid-week Wednesday. At the moment I'm looking after a very naughty pup (she's not mine, just here for a few weeks) and I am craving a day when I don't have to rescue slippers, envelopes, rolls of Sellotape..... I daren't leave her on her own anywhere and need eyes in the back of my head. It's a bit like having young children - beware when everything goes quiet! It doesn't help that she wakes up between 5.30 and 6am. Grrr.

dementedma · 06/03/2019 21:37

I've been at a dull work meeting in London a d flight back was delayed so its been a long day. Dd1 and ds picked me up at the airport. Its great once the kids can drive and all those years of taxiing are now due to be paid back.

MintToBee · 06/03/2019 22:27

I had a two hour driving lesson in the rain and got a tax rebate Grin
Early night here as I've my hospital appointment tomorrow to see why my elbow isn't healing.

CilantroChili · 07/03/2019 20:21

Hello Brave Babes
May I join you?
I see some lovely things going on on this thread and so congrats to the bride-to-be, on the new job, and on the just-getting-on-with-things!
Me: well I’m on my last run with moderation. If I can’t pull it off, I will have to call it quits with booze.
Wine is my poison, and I work with it (yay 😩)
I’m into week 2 of moderation (Friday & Saturday or Saturday/Sunday til 6pm) are the lines in the sand
Sorry for waffling on Blush

venusandmars · 07/03/2019 21:01

Welcome Cilantro. Moderation can be such a tough one, like a constant fight and sometimes there is a great peace in just giving up.

But whatever you want to do, you'll find lots of support and encouragement on here.
