Mouseface · 01/11/2017 20:08

Hello Smile

I’m Mouse one of the Brave Babes who ride on this wonderful Bus, called Gerald, along with all the Opal Fruits wrappers and of course Barry The squid. Grin

We all have a wise variety of life experiences and experiences with alcohol too. We’re not admirers of hang overs and we certainly don’t do judgey pants!

We’re here to ride along with you, when life is pants but also when it’s not as well and you my want to celebrate that bit too much!

So find a seat and come take a ride. I’ll link the previous and also the very first link and the reason we’re all here.

Day 1 done, along with a shit ton of housework and cooking and being generally efficient and organised. Drinking the delicious Christmas spiced black chai from The Wee Tea Company and feeling virtuous. I need to get some more of this stuff. I normally hate herbal or flavoured teas but this is lovely.

Trust2017 · 01/01/2018 21:19

I would like to join the bus for some support to stop binge drinking. My first target is Dry January. My problem is that I have no ‘off switch’. I can not drink for days/weeks but when I do it’s always a massive binge. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you

MintToBee · 01/01/2018 21:25

guggenheim
Hope your dh can see the funny side- maybe in a weeks time.
Oh there's no funny side unfortunately. It was bad. I think he's lost a lot of friends now. As one of them said, it's always making a show of himself and enough is enough.
He's now decided to join me going AF.
I do know how he feels after my meltdown on Christmas Day.
Let's hope this is a turning point in the relationship and we can go forward together instead of ripping each other apart as we have been.

So to all my fellow travellers, I raise my glass of water to us all, a new year, a new start.

guggenheim · 01/01/2018 21:50

Ah apologies mint and yes I hope it can be a turning point for him!

bakingcupcakes · 01/01/2018 21:54

I'm in bed. I think I've drunk too much water and am now at risk of a night time toilet trip.

Still it's day 1 complete. I don't want to go to work tomorrow though. I'm not a fan of January.

Mint maybe DH's friends will come around especially if he's making an effort. I still remember the day after shame. I drink by myself these days and don't phone people so no one really knows anymore. It's for the best!

dementedma · 01/01/2018 22:12

welcome trust. I'm a regular drinker rather than a binger so can't really help but i know some of the other babes will have top tips. Buckle up. We are storming into 2018..
(Who the hell is driving this bus these days anyway?)

Trust2017 · 01/01/2018 22:28

Thank you ma. I hope so as it seems to have gotten to be a bit of a problem. The memory loss is the worst. And no matter how many times I think I will just have one or two it does not work. Confused

Endofthewine · 01/01/2018 23:22

Hello Trust, it took me a long time to realise I couldn't moderate and the only control I have over booze is not having the first drink.

I hope a better moderator than me can offer you some advice.

Well done everyone on Day 1!

I still remember the day after shame. I drink by myself these days and don't phone people so no one really knows anymore. It's for the best! Oh yes, I love drinking alone as I'm 'safe' from making a complete idiot of myself... Blush

Trust2017 · 02/01/2018 06:29

My dry January starts today (better late than never) I had planned to start today anyway but what clinched it was a mahoosive amount to drink on NYE staying up till 5am. This was followed by getting up yesterday morning and feeling like another drink to get myself together. This is not normal behaviour I believe! Anyway Day 1 for me. Today I will not be drinking. Thanks for listening and any help will be greatly received x

Trust2017 · 02/01/2018 06:32

Thank you endof for your reply x

Twattage13 · 02/01/2018 06:38

Morning all - about to dash to work...will catch up on all the messages this evening when I'm home after 7. Day 3 for me...another night of deep, fabulous sleep from 10-6! x

guggenheim · 02/01/2018 07:18

Morning all,

Day 1 done and i’m Feeling much better.
Morning to twattage and trust and endof and ma and mint and I’m not doing any more NC because i’m rubbish at them.

Some babes were asking about apps, I use the ‘ii’m Done drinking ‘ app. It’s really simple which I like. I couldn’t get on with the drinkaware one.

SweetLathyrus · 02/01/2018 07:47

Morning all.

Guggs I didn't like the official DJ app last year, but it does seem to have improved, but I did use I'm Done Drinking for years. Basic but good.

I had rubbish sleep (always do to start) and I've been grinding my teeth in the little sleep I had. And as predicted, it's today I am really feeling the hangover Sad.

On a happier note, I have already lost 1lb since I last weighed myself. unlike those of you who just want to see the end result (Legitimate tactic, and good delayed gratification!) I weigh myself on the wii-fit everyday so I can track the effects of particular choices. It's not a good way to do it if you have any tendencies towards eating disorders, but I find that I'm not worried by daily fluctuations only the trend, but I do need to see it happening.

Anyway, lots of marking for me today, and taking down the decos, I love putting them up, but I'm always glad to see them go.

Have a good day Babes.

Trust2017 · 02/01/2018 07:58

I have just got a new Fitbit and aim to get fit, not drink and lose weight because of that. My aim is 10,000 steps a day in January. I will also log all food and drink. Today I weigh 12 stones and I will not be drinking.

bakingcupcakes · 02/01/2018 08:02

Trust The only way I've found to moderate is to only buy what I can drink that night. So I buy 4 cans rather than a crate or a mini bottle of wine not a regular size. I can't leave my house when DS's in bed so it works for me. Obviously this doesn't work in a pub!

On my way to work. Crap nights sleep.

Yorkshireteaforme · 02/01/2018 08:29

Good morning all - not a great night's sleep with too much tossing and turning but at least there was no 3am toilet trip and gulping water, and no fuzzy head and dodgy tummy this morning. Another upside is that I'm going to have a nutritious breakfast instead of six cups of tea and no solid food until mid-morning!

SweetLathyrus · 02/01/2018 08:32

Go for it Trust. I've been tracking my steps with my phone, 10k isn't that much if you do small things to change your habits - park at the far side of the car park, get off the bus one stop early - or walk to the next one to get on. It will soon improve your fitness and you'll be upping it to 15k. If you can find it, David Serdaris' short story about his obsession with the Fitbit and how he came to have a Sussex bin lorry named in his honour, is brilliant (I think it's called The Litter Picker, and is best if you can find him reading it).

SweetLathyrus · 02/01/2018 08:46

Mint, I'm sorry your DH behaved like such a dick. Hopefully this will kick start some improvements.

Twattage nothing quite like good sleep. Have a good day at work.

Endof that is me too, the only one I need to avoid is the first, once that's been guzzled, there is no off-switch.

Ma, aren't you driving? Wink

Bernie, there's two elements to the thirst. The first is that you will have had a low level of dehydration over a very long time, your body is resetting itself. The second (well it applies to me anyway) is habit, I am so used to constant sipping, having a glass in my hand, I need to replace that to begin with. And though I prefer it, I find that fizzy water isn't as thirst quenching as still.

MintToBee · 02/01/2018 09:17

Morning everyone. So many of you I can't name check everyone and welcome to all the new passengers.

It looks like the DJ app has crashed! Which one of you broke it? Grin
Had a great sleep last night. The night sweats have stopped now but I now have acquired a rather painful abscess in my groin. I also have a slight hangover type feeling , my body is in shock no doubt!
So today after the Asda order has been( I know how to live), we are going to our friends house with flowers so DP can apologise for his behaviour. He admitted last night he needs to stop drinking and told me he stopped for 10 years in the past due to problems.
I'm not sure with my new work hours if I can get back to the gym full time Sad I'm so rural it would take a three hour round trip on the buses. But as DP still hasnt got work, I'm going to ask him to be my taxi driver to get him off the sofa and away from the internet (24/7 he's glued to it).
I am going to start the Couch25k again I think. I also have a set of dumbbells and a gym ball (god bless Aldis) so there's no excuse not to start a small home exercise plan again.
So that's my NY resolution, get fit and be AF.
I couldn't have got through last year without the help, support and friendship on this thread. You have been a shoulder to cry on and are always there with a kick up the bum if needed.

dementedma · 02/01/2018 09:43

morning all. Crap night's sleep due to head pains which have been bothering me for the last few days. It's not a headache as such, but more of a stabbing pain in my head and face - weird!
Day 2 today and back to work tomorrow. Plan to catch up with paperwork and bills, and then maybe take mum out somewhere to get her out of the house.

SmallFox · 02/01/2018 10:09

....slinks back from prolonged stint in side car, with predictable new year timing. Been here before, methinks.

Made it to over three months AF and then hit December (in every sense). Epic fail. New year, new leaf, app reset to zero, here we go. Again. But with real belief it can be done and can be different this time.

I’ve got a lot of reading back to do so I won’t try to NC now - lovely to see old (metaphorical) and new faces. Will be back soon when I’m up to speed.

SweetLathyrus · 02/01/2018 10:16

{{{{hugs}}}} for Small, welcome home old girl.

Just ate a whole bag of M&S Mini Whips (walnut whips without the walnut) feel sick now.

BernieBear · 02/01/2018 11:05

Morning Babes, may I join the bad nights sleep inner sanctum? I know it will pass but it's tough for now. On the up side, how lovely to come down to a clean and tidy kitchen (it's the little things)
Thank you sweet for the insight into my thirst, I was starting to quietly worry about Diabetes (dramatic, moi???).
I have a sneaky extra day off today which is nice but have a homework to do before heading into work tomorrow.
Mint I love the couch to 5k app, I was up to week 7 three weeks before Xmas but haven't done anything since, so heading back out later and starting week 5 again. Jo Wiley is my go to voice 😁.
Trust I'm going to charge up my fitbit today and brush off my weightwatchers app and start logging everything. I worked out that I was consuming approx 1000 calories in wine alone, so hope that dry jan will make dieting easier and, hopefully, more enjoyable
Have a great day everyone x

dementedma · 02/01/2018 11:06

great to see you again small. 3 months is awesome.
Am debating whether or not to get dressed and go out in this filthy weather - or stay in and do sweet FA.

SweetLathyrus · 02/01/2018 11:15

Ma, even SweetDog gave me a 'let's go home now' look this morning, the weather is filthy, stay in the warm and dry.

Came home from said, soggy walk to find feathers in the hall. No sign of the rest of the bird (unusual not so SweetCat only generally eats rodents, birds are gifted to the dog). UNTIL, half and hour later, hound started going mad in the bathroom - very lively finch is hiding behind a plant in the window, so I was able to open the window and let it out. Dog is not convinced that its gone though.

Bernie, I try to suppress the temptation to self-diagnose, but, I know I've been playing the odds with my health and wine, so I get where you are coming from!

Must get on with more marking. ARGH!
