Hello Smile

I’m Mouse one of the Brave Babes who ride on this wonderful Bus, called Gerald, along with all the Opal Fruits wrappers and of course Barry The squid. Grin

We all have a wise variety of life experiences and experiences with alcohol too. We’re not admirers of hang overs and we certainly don’t do judgey pants!

We’re here to ride along with you, when life is pants but also when it’s not as well and you my want to celebrate that bit too much!

So find a seat and come take a ride. I’ll link the previous and also the very first link and the reason we’re all here.

Hello all,

this is my first post on this thread (have name changed for this), but I've been lurking on the bus for a good few months now .

I want to say a big thank-you to everyone posting on here, as you helped me keep sober, especially during the first, hardest weeks. But especially you Spanna. Everything you've written has resonated- I'm so grateful for your posts.

So, I'm now nearly 150 days sober. Before this I gave up so, so many times and only lasted a few days at most (a fortnight was the big crunch time for me on the handful of times that I got that far).

So much advice on here is great and to those just starting I want to say that the struggle gets easier if you can keep off. I had a massive dip in energy two weeks in and was wiped out exhausted but I came out the other side. I don't have strong cravings now to drink, just more of a niggle now and again. I don't look puffy or red faced anymore and I feel so much better about everything.

A big part of drinking for me, was the craving for that feeling of just turning the world off and slipping into a responsibility free wine haze. It's turned out that I only needed the wine haze to escape from the hangovers, stress and exhaustion of being a regular, heavy drinker. I can cope so much better without the booze. I wish I'd done this sooner before I'd fucked up so much of my life but at least I'm on the bus now.

Good luck and Happy New Year to all you wonderful babes!

spanna41 · 31/12/2017 22:12

spanna41 · 31/12/2017 22:17

Endofthewine 150 days - go you that is brilliant - well done Thanks and thank you. Glad to be able to help! My stumbling block was always day 3 Blush keep on keeping on - we can do this Smile

I'm halfway through my mokito and it is lush, yummy! Didn't think much of the sling thing far too sweet! Rocktails is my way forward for special drinks Grin

Wrongwayup · 31/12/2017 22:18

Lux. I really want to do what you have and look after myself. Won't name change to lux 2018 as that would be slightly stalking. X

SweetLathyrus · 31/12/2017 22:22

Just in case I don't make it to midnight, see you all in the morning, in the future Shock

If tomorrow is difficult, keep posting, stick with it, and if you can't, be kind to yourself and try again.

Welcome to the bus Endof, you are an example to us all already. 58 brilliant days, Saywhen, Pink Brew back at you Smile.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 31/12/2017 22:56

Oh gosh wrong good point. I will have to change to 2018!

All the best everyone, we've got this.

Margie32 · 31/12/2017 23:49

Here in Margieland it’s already 2018...so Happy New Year lovely babes!

Welcome to all newbies and hello to old friends.

Twattage13 · 01/01/2018 06:59

Morning all - top of the NY to you all!

Well I am SO happy that I decided to stop with the booze the night before last. Today I work up at 6.15 (am fine with that as I'm back to work tomorrow and I will need to be up at 6 anyway) - not anxious :). Was asleep by around 10ish so a good 8 hours of proper, sober sleep.

I've already got up, made coffees for me and my boy, and fed the cat (usually I miss all those things as I'm still in a horrible slumber post beer).

This is the first morning I've woken up with a clear head since late November. Feels amazing - nobody ever regrets not drinking the next morning...

guggenheim · 01/01/2018 07:14

Happy new year babes,

I’m starting over again and I can’t wait to feel clean and healthy. I did over 3 months af in 2017 but as soon as it got dark & cold I went back to daily drinking. I was up by 5.30 ( thanks dd ) feeling a little bit crap not particularly hungover. Now I want to stop for a much longer period , I’m fed up of feeling a bit crap in the mornings.

I’ll take every bit of advice going babes : )

Massive well done to all you sucessful people.

Twattage13 · 01/01/2018 07:17

Morning guggenheim - that's great you did 3 months last year. I know what it's like to get stuck in a rut in winter. My drinking really escalated from November onwards in the dark and cold. Here's to a NY and new us :). x

Yorkshireteaforme · 01/01/2018 07:24

A morning check in - slightly hungover but what else is new Blush? I am determined though that that's enough. Good morning to everyone else and here's to a great 2018 whatever it brings.

Saywhen · 01/01/2018 08:00

Twattage go you its great isnt it waking up without a hangover!

By the way sober podcasts have really helped me - the bubble hour and mother recovering. And sober blogs like mummy was a secret drinker.

If I was craving I read or listened and it really helped. Good luck x

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 01/01/2018 08:05

Ive just woken now to what is day 6.

I feel so much better! No pounding headache to wake up to! My first af nye in 15 years done!

Twattage13 · 01/01/2018 08:06

Thanks Saywhen - I will check them out. I'm taking it one day at a time but I would imagine that Thursday evening will be a toughie so I will need support.

Of a usual week (before I got into a rut in late November) I would have drunk beer Thursday, Friday, Saturday...by Thursday I'm sure work will be pissing me off and I'll be tired from being on-site with my clients for three days running!

But we'll see...

SweetLathyrus · 01/01/2018 08:16

Morning All.

Good to see you Guggs, Last I wish I could say I had had an AF New Year, I'm in for a whopper of a hangover over the next few days.

*Twattage, we will be here when it gets tough.

I will get out and walk the dog soon, but the plan for today is plenty of water, don't stress about the chocolate, just go with whatever it takes to get to a decent enough hour to go back to bed.

dementedma · 01/01/2018 09:03

morning all and a Happy New Year to Gerald and his doughty travellers - including Barrie the Squid.
Cold and rainy here so might take the tree down to keep myself occupied. DH will sleep all day (night shift) and DS and DD won't surface until lunchtime and afternoon, so at a bit of a loss what to do with myself.

SweetLathyrus · 01/01/2018 09:35

Ma DH won't let me take the tree down "Because its a Bank Holiday" ???
Enjoy the peace and quiet.

bakingbee · 01/01/2018 09:56

Good morning and Happy New Year to all Bus Babes! Day 64 for me, determined to keep going. Daily yoga has helped me keep focused. Keep on keeping on!!

bakingcupcakes · 01/01/2018 10:41

Ma My tree and all decorations all came down and went away this morning. They've been up since 26th November Blush

Sweet DS tried to stop me as it'll be '25 day' again soon. He's only 3.

I had 2 cans and a bottle of Becks last night so no hangover for me today. Dreading going back to work tomorrow. Having problems with the trains (engineering works mixed with strike action) so every trip fills me with horror. My plan for 2018 is to find a job nearer my house.

Melonsonic · 01/01/2018 11:10

Happen New Year babes!

I had some champagne last night, but not that much.

This is my first hangover and embarrassment free NYD for years.

I'm the past, I have made an utter arse of myself and it's so nice to wake up with a clear head and a clear conscience.

SweetLathyrus · 01/01/2018 11:52

Ahh, Baking that's so sweet! Just noticed we have two Bakings, so it'll have to be Cupcake and Bee Grin. Bee 64 days is ACE.

DH is complaining he has a hangover and is still sitting in his dressing gown (no pj bottoms, just pants Hmm) watching the Viennese New Year's Day concert - which is exactly where I left him over an hour ago before the dog walk, and when I very specifically told him he could turn that creepy crap off. Oh and the hangover is from one bottle of IPA and a (small) glass and a half of champagne. Bloody light-weight.

Well done, Melon.

BernieBear · 01/01/2018 12:11

Morning all - not the best nights sleep and awake early but I know this gets better in a few days. Lovely to see so many clear headed beauties here today.
Saywhen - those podcasts sound interesting, I'll have to find them.
Morning twattage Smile
My ds has leant me his iPad to keep me company during my early nights, so any good film suggestions on Amazon or Netflix will be gratefully received.
Off to walk the dog in the rain before making a nice roast (without drinking wine whilst cooking - another challenge!)
Have a great day today ladies, I'll pop in later when the wine pangs begin x

Fairenuff · 01/01/2018 12:15

Happy New Year everyone. Looks like we're hurtling into January with a packed bus Smile
