It's nearly Christmas, I have wine, I'm watching in tears as usual

Just feeling sorry for myself that it's never going to happen for me...

That's it really!

Ah well.

Why is everyone dissing Karl? it'/ not just that she has regular calls or visits to her brother, it's v obvious that she is totally at his beck and call EVEN THOUGH he is in the hands of professionals and is physically safe. She has no boundaries with her private life, and will never prioritise Karl not even in their most intimate moments. He's actually a good guy not to mess her around and instead just says 'this is not what I want from a relationship' from the beginning.

Dustoff You are probably right as it goes. Both are stating from the outset what they consider normal I guess.

The Martine McHutcheon/HG storyline reminds me of me and my ex husband ! He was the MD of a large financial institution and I was the Sarf London back office girl .

I got horribly drunk tipsy at our Christmas party , grabbed the DJ's microphone and sang along to Don't Worry Be Happy Blush . Apparently my DH , who was standing with all the top brass asked who the hell was making that racket . The Chairman replied 'It appears to be your wife' Grin

Love this film, especially the airport scene, must go and watch it after reading this

notrocketscience · 17/12/2016 10:25

Hate it. Probably because OW broadcast over FB about her love actually moment with my then DH. Thanks for that! Now she's married to him and I can laugh about it but still hate the damn film.

NoCapes · 17/12/2016 13:39

LL doesn't actually tell Karl about her brother does she? So she just disappears right as they were about to get down and he's feeling rejected
I always thought the bit in the office where he looks all wistful is because he thinks shes not interested after that and because she does an excellent breezy 'goodnight Karl' when he clearly wants her to just say something

RortyCrankle · 17/12/2016 14:26

I love and hate this film in equal measure. Not keen on the American/Karl scenes - he was an arse not to understand. Really dislike Emma Thompson so tend to FF through her bits which is a shame because it's a good story. Loved Alan Rickman so tough to see him as a cheat. Loved the proposal in the restaurant, Hugh Grant was not good as PM etc. So a big mixture.

God Rocket what an awful thing to read.

That's crap, notrocketscience Sad

Georgie Never seen The Vow. I love The Holiday too, but I'm afraid the Time Travellers Wife was the most tedious thing I've seen in a long time. I read the book and realised that was one Christmas I was never going to get back. Foolishly, I then watched the film and realised it was 2 hours I was never going to get back! Grin

I have a question!

How come the porn stars aren't connected into the other stories or are they and i'm being dim? I know that BT Man's friend directs their film - and they say hi to each other at the airport at the end. But other than that, who exactly are they?

Also, I wonder if Joanna Paige's mum and dad have ever watched the film? Hmm

happychristmasbum · 17/12/2016 20:41

I think Martin Freemans brother has kids at the same school as ET and AR and they are at the Christmas show....fairly tenuous and my least favourite part of the film. Disposable really.

TheCompanyOfCats · 17/12/2016 20:51

Yeah, we watched it last night and said the same thing about those two characters: disposable. I love the rest of the film though!

honeyroar · 17/12/2016 21:03

I hate and love the film too. The first time I watched it I'd just been cheated on by my fiancé and had had to cancel my wedding, so wasn't feeling the romance, and there was too much cheating and lying in it. But I love the rockstar bits.

We watched it the other night and my husband was gushing about it. I turned to him and said in reality, 13 years on, I bet most of them would have split up!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 18/12/2016 06:20

happy who is Martin Freemans brother in the film? I can't remember!

rollonthesummer · 18/12/2016 08:58

Wasn't Martin freeman mates with the friend of the BT man who went to America?

iklboo · 18/12/2016 10:00

Each story is linked in some way with the exception of Billy Mack and his manager, who are not acquainted with any of the other characters, but Billy appears frequently on characters' radios and TVs, his music video twice providing an important plot device for Sam's pursuit of Joanna; the pair also cross paths with the other characters in the closing Heathrow scene. John and Judy work with Tony who is best friends with Colin who works for a catering company that services the office where Sarah, Karl, Mia, and Harry work. Mia is friends with Mark who runs the art gallery where the Christmas office party takes place. Mia also lives next door to Natalie. Mark is in love with Juliet and friends with Peter. The couple are friends with Jamie and Sarah. Harry is married to Karen who is friends with Daniel, and Karen's brother is David who works with Natalie. Harry and Karen's children (and thus David's niece and nephew), Natalie's siblings (and thus Mia's neighbours), and Carol's son are all schoolmates of Sam and Joanna. An additional plot that was dropped in editing concerned the children's headmistress and her dying lesbian partner.
