It's nearly Christmas, I have wine, I'm watching in tears as usual

Just feeling sorry for myself that it's never going to happen for me...

That's it really!

Ah well.

Whats the reference about mccutcheons great set of pipes about? Boobs or legs?

Satisfactorylemon · 15/12/2016 13:16

Said by the US president about the Secretary. Can totally see donald duck saying something like that...

MrsFozziwig · 15/12/2016 13:18

Boobs I think. But I'm not sure either.

Haven't read all the thread so sorry if it's already been mentioned but the man who sings All you need is love in the church at Keira knightley's wedding (Lyndon David hall) passed away a couple of years after the film came out, age 31. Very sad Sad. Feel sad when I see him in the film looking so vibrant and full of life.

GiraffesAndButterflies · 15/12/2016 13:31

Oh I love this film. ET straightening the bed is probably my favourite bit of acting ever.

Lottapianos · 15/12/2016 13:33

'Have a look at the Love Actually Honest Trailer on Youtube.....'

Grin Very funny

Its the only Christmas film I can stomach. The only one. And a lot of it is seriously dodgy and problematic as others have said, but the bits that I love, I really love. Its good crappy fodder to slump in front of and the Emma Thompson bit is genuinely moving

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 15/12/2016 13:53

Pipes = legs

LoisEinhorn · 15/12/2016 13:56

I didn't know that, how sad :(

Satisfactorylemon · 15/12/2016 14:13

Well hello i need more lemon pledge Wink
Mrs fozziwig you reckon so? They aren't particularly prominent there..
Rudymentary yes normally so but there was no context of singing or music there ..

ravenmum · 15/12/2016 14:21

OK, so Laura Linney shouldn't be such a martyr, but what kind of nasty git is Karl, dumping a woman instantly when she has a family emergency and can't shag him on the spot?

Actually find the Billy Mack and "fat manager" scene the most loving...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/12/2016 14:30

If you search YouTube for the cut scenes there's one where I think the headmistress goes home to her dying partner, it's a real shame they cut that story.

It's one of my favourite films, I know it is problematic in many ways, but I just love to snuggle up an watch it Smile

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 15/12/2016 14:57

Was googling the deleted scenes and saw an interview with ET where she said she based her reaction to Snape's affair on how she felt when Kenneth Branagh had an affair with Helena Bonham Carter Sad

OhPuddleducks · 15/12/2016 15:05

"Eight is a lot of legs, David"

Best line.

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 15/12/2016 15:07

What is the relationship between ET and LN? He can't be ANOTHER brother and he has a totally different accent. Just a friend?

So many turtlenecks...

The best bit is rowan Atkinson wanking around packing the necklace. I always think back to this during my many many moments when I'm in a rush and someone is being parodically slow.

Bogeyface · 15/12/2016 15:31

He is her friend, although at first I thought he was her brother too.

Arkengarthdale · 15/12/2016 15:34

I saw this film at the cinema when it first came out. On a first date! Who goes to the flicks on a first date? You just sit in the dark and don't speak.

I love this film. It's so corny! I think Colin's American shag fest is deliberately ridiculous as he's such a hopeless loser with the ladies at home.

Love 'Ant or Dec' line. Took me years to work out which was which. Yes, yes I know they always stand like that so you know which is which Grin

I want to cuddle Liam Neeson, poor chap. Mind, I always want to cuddle Liam Neeson... he'd be my choice for Jack Reacher, though too old now.

Hate the swearing. As mentioned upthread about Tiffany's coat. And when Sam gets caught at the airport and says 'Jesus'. He's too little for that.

I needed a cry this week and this was a perfect excuse Smile

Bogeyface · 15/12/2016 15:37

Frances de la Tour and Anne Reid as the old "married" couple is just incredible, why that was left out in favour of BT mans shagfest is completely beyond me. A film talking about love and they left out the one story that shows what true love really is?

SteppingOnToes · 15/12/2016 15:47

I'm more of a fan of The Holiday

faffalotty · 15/12/2016 15:59

I had to turn this over the other day. Really can't bear to watch the ET storyline.

Why doesn't she LTB??

Lottapianos · 15/12/2016 16:10

'The best bit is rowan Atkinson wanking around packing the necklace'

Yes I adore that too. Putting in shovelfuls of rose petals and stuff while Alan Rickman is trying not to scream at him! Grin

Satisfactorylemon · 15/12/2016 16:18

I love romantic films wish theyd make a love actually 2

MrsFozziwig · 15/12/2016 16:20

I love The Holiday too.

I only watch all this 'romantic' nonsense at Christmas Wink

OP posts:
Bogeyface · 15/12/2016 16:22

Why doesn't she LTB??

The same reason a lot of us dont. Because its Xmas/Birthday/holiday is booked/kids doing exams/kids nearly off to Uni.....

I think that long term she would leave him, after trying and trying to make it work and realising that he just isnt worth it.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 15/12/2016 16:36

You know I must have seen this film at least 10 times and I never thought Snape actually shagged the secretary until reading this thread. I thought he gave her necklace and was thinking about shagging her. I am well naïve!!!
