It's nearly Christmas, I have wine, I'm watching in tears as usual

Just feeling sorry for myself that it's never going to happen for me...

That's it really!

Ah well.

I - bizarrely - have never seen the film before tonight. I put it on to 'see what the fuss was about'. Fuss very much worth it. Emma Thomson is epic. Bill Nighy is fabulous. Alan Rickman sadly missed.

But I only like fancy a bit Colin Firth in Kingsman. Grin

NoCapes · 13/12/2016 23:28

I've just read the Jezebel review - you may have just ruined the film for me forever 😳

chocoholic89 · 13/12/2016 23:32

It's Christmas now. Xmas Grin love this film. I always cry at it too!

MrsFozziwig · 13/12/2016 23:39

It's the look on her face when she says, "home" and the word is hollow because it doesn't meant that anymore Sad

Oh capes I'm so sorry! I didn't link to it for the very reason it kills the love!

(Until you have another mulled wine, rewind the video and pretend none of the real life shit matters Grin )

NoCapes · 13/12/2016 23:42

Ha scribble I'm watching it on +1 now and trying to forget everything I read
La la la la laaaaaa

Bogeyface · 13/12/2016 23:43

The love story that makes if for me is Billy Nighy and Gregor Fisher.....and of course "Thank you Ant or Dec..." scene is comedy gold! "Kids, dont buy drugs....become a rock star and you get them for FREE!" :o

But the Emma Thompson moment is far too close to home here too, she plays is beautifully.

NoCapes · 13/12/2016 23:43

I still don't understand the storyline with the BT guy going to America for a shag though - just how is that relevant in any way?!

Bogeyface · 13/12/2016 23:44

fucking phone! you know what I mean!

Scribblegirl · 13/12/2016 23:45

capes 'the BT guy' 😂

NoCapes · 13/12/2016 23:47
Xmas Grin
BlueNeighbourhood · 13/12/2016 23:49

My absolute favourite is the whole Andrew Lincoln/Kiera Knightly and the 'Carol singers' scene. That's the point I crack every year in the run up to Christmas!

This time last year I was dreading it, no partner, my life heading nowhere. And I'd been in love with one of my best friends for three years until it clicked in the summer, this time next week we'll be having our Christmas date together watching Love Actually and swapping presents before returning to our families. Believe, I did and I can't believe how much my world has changed! Good luck x

liebstraumNo3 · 13/12/2016 23:50

A great film but the very poor taste opening lines about 9/11 make me cringe.

NapQueen · 13/12/2016 23:53

How is it poor taste? It was true.

NoCapes · 13/12/2016 23:55

Oh it was just the scene Sad
Can't tell you how many times I've done that though, when ExP came in at 8am with make up on his t-shirt and I'd go and have a cry in the other room, pat the tears not wipe so it didn't ruin my make up, then shake it off and come back in to be Mum again
She is just brilliant isn't she

Bogeyface · 13/12/2016 23:58

My absolute favourite is the whole Andrew Lincoln/Kiera Knightly and the 'Carol singers' scene. That's the point I crack every year in the run up to Christmas!

Really? I hate that scene.

He is in love with someone who is happily married to his best friend and instead of being truly loving and noble and keeping it to himself, he puts it all onto her. You are not telling me that he did that as "closure" for either of them, it was in the hope that his grand romantic gesture, with her husband thrillingly only metres away, would turn her head. Andrew Lincolns character is a complete dick imo!

NoCapes · 14/12/2016 00:00

I agree Bogey
Plus anyone that can love Keira Knightley clearly has massive issues anyway 🙊

BlueNeighbourhood · 14/12/2016 00:03

Oh absolutely. I'm not disputing that at all, I'm not quite sure why it is I like it so much. Maybe the whole grand romantic gesture and to be honest I wasn't thinking about the rest - and yes he probably did want him for herself. I tried not to take it too seriously though it was probably just the cards. Not the reasoning behind it.

CondensedMilkSarnies · 14/12/2016 00:04

I've just tuned in - I love this film . Apart from the American girl that keeps answering her phone .

blowmybarnacles · 14/12/2016 00:13

Why is that Nocapes Do you know something about her that makes you think that way?

scaredoffallout · 14/12/2016 00:16

My favourite bit is the Colin Firth proposal to his future wife in the restaurant. In Portuguese. Every time I see it I cry. Also like the run up to it when his girlfriend's Dad tries to palm his other daughter on to him Grin, and a gathering procession walk with him to the restaurant.

NoCapes · 14/12/2016 00:19

No blow just can't stand her and her smug face and jaw

HelenaDove · 14/12/2016 02:02

I recently read A Snow Garden and Other Stories by Rachel Joyce. 7 Christmas short stories with some characters from one story loosely linked to someone in another story or popping up briefly in another story in a similar way to Love Actually.

Its very good.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 14/12/2016 02:10

Ugh I hate the Colin Firth and Portuguese woman storyline - they've never even spoken he just fancies her in her underwear! And why is everyone in France speaking Portuguese!

Also hate Egg from Teachers and Keira K. And BT guy is gross.

Love Emma and Alan, Stacey and Tim from the Office, Liam Neeson and I even quite like Hugh Grant as PM and Tiffany (even though recognise that is ridiculous).
