Why do men of all ages want women in their early-mid 20's....

2 different studies, same results :

time.com/3433014/men-women-dating-mid-20s/

time.com/3302251/9-ugly-truths-big-data-ok-cupid-book/

Doesn't make any sense, does it?

I think it springs from male jealousy about female reproduction. Men aren't that much stronger than women anyway; not in a way that's evolutionarily useful in a tool building species.

Shiningexample · 29/08/2016 11:50

It springs from the fact that men are physically stronger than women. It's as simple as that
These things are contingent, in primitive cultures where might is right the physically more powerful have the upper hand as we progress things become far more complex.

Power is the ability to get what you want and need in life, intelligence, the ability to negotiate, to trade to read people, to have an implement good ideas
These are all far more important in modern advanced cultures

You might want to go back to primitive 'might is right' life but I will take modern technologically advanced living

BombadierFritz · 29/08/2016 11:51

I agree pushingthru or that it is linked to controlling female reproduction

How would you explain our current patriarchy?

Subatomickitten · 29/08/2016 11:55

in relation to biological imperatives, these "stats" don't appear to add up. It was my understanding that the male drive for procreation was to obtain unlimited sexual opportunities with as many women as possible (spread the seed) whereas women have a biological imperative to choose the mate most likely to provide genetically superior offspring? Wouldn't that make women the most choosy? Also why the big "it's just biology - deal with it" attitudes? I don't throw my shit at passers by and my husband doesn't ejaculate into his own hand and eat it so "bald monkeys with iPhones" is a bit basic isn't it? Agree with the PP about learnt behaviours, it was only in Victorian times we saw women as the wanton sex pests and men as the reserved, well controlled species. Oh how times change eh? Pesky biology, changing to suit societies norms on a whim Wink

raisedbyguineapigs · 29/08/2016 11:57

I agree. the only way men could be sure that a child was theirs was to formalise their relationships, through marriage. But how was it imposed on half the population? That part makes no sense, and I would only think that that would have come about through strength, or that women were weaker while pregnant, so came to rely on males to protect them and their babies when tiny, and that was just taken advantage of eventually, by some enterprising men, who then invented religion in order to cement their intermittent authority. I don't know.

TheStoic · 29/08/2016 11:59

Wouldn't that make women the most choosy?

We ARE more choosy. Far more. As evidenced by the male scattergun approach to mating.

Shiningexample · 29/08/2016 12:06

Strength = power
If this were true then the physically strongest people would be the ones in positions of power
Patriarchy has been entrenched but is in decline

Runoutoftime16 · 29/08/2016 12:06

Shining Humans don't have instincts? If you believe that the you have been walking blind.

It helps to understand that humans have a strong procreate instinct but also a powerful mind to curtail them when needed, but some lack will power Grin.

I don't like androids Wink.

Subatomickitten · 29/08/2016 12:08

Run Don't bring brains into this! That's too logical! Sentient beings with the ability to make decisions? Say it isn't so!

Runoutoftime16 · 29/08/2016 12:10

Thankfully, we have laws designed to prevent violence. They don't always work, but it's better than a free-for-all.

Where these laws are the strongest and upheld the most, women have a higher quality of life.

That's not a coincidence.

Shiningexample · 29/08/2016 12:15

Shining I think some men look at people like Leo DiCaprio and Peter String fellow and delude themselves into thinking that the 20 something hot young model is there because they love fat, commitment phobic middle aged men
and we see this all the time in film and TV, older unattractive men with young attractive women, it's appealing to male vanity but you know that in real life she would just sneer at him

Shiningexample · 29/08/2016 12:21

Not just women EVERYONE, society advances culturally and technologically as we curtail the impulse to violence and retribution to free us up to better use our minds
Female emancipation is inevitably as we advance and progress

TheStoic · 29/08/2016 12:25

Yes, controlling strength and violence definitely benefits society as a whole.

SleepingTiger · 29/08/2016 12:29

Growing younger every day with my 45 year old woman, I am a little older. Her attraction is both inside and out. It's an amazing journey. Smile
I didn't know her when she was in her 20's or 30's but I suspect she just got and gets better.
Everyone else just fades to grey.

Horsemad · 29/08/2016 12:32

I'm not so sure they do get sneered at always. If the women are shallow and the men have the dosh to chuck around, then it is a partnership that pleases both sadly.

Shiningexample · 29/08/2016 15:52

money may well be the only thing that the older man has to offer, he likely tells himself that he can still pull, that women find him intrinsically desirable

Horsemad · 29/08/2016 16:16

Yep, the poor deluded fool probably does Shining Grin

Kikibanana86 · 29/08/2016 16:48

I get hit on by men in their early twenties all the time, in fact I only go for younger men.

HelenaDove · 29/08/2016 17:00

The older men ive dated including DH have all been on a low income.

The highest was £14.000 a year.

Since when did feminism include calling women gold diggers.

GloriaGaynor · 29/08/2016 17:51

It's a biological urge for females to seek the best possible protection for themselves and their offspring. It's an evolutionary adaptation

Setting aside that belief in the need for protection is a conditioned patriarchal response - the best possible protection for a woman and her offspring would come from a young fit male.

This is just standard evolutionary psychobollocks sexism.

OhhBetty · 29/08/2016 19:38

Im mid twenties. My ex still left me for a 29 year old!

YodaBest · 29/08/2016 19:56

Actually, we are primates, not monkeys, unless you're hiding a tail somewhere.

I think it's all biology, and women's visual attributes of youth and fertility attract males.
Men who are older have more resources and can fight off the younger immature and more poorly resourced mates.

Johnny Depp and aAmber Heard are a classic example of him pursuing her on the basis of her youth and fertility indicators- clear unblemished (undiseased) skin, long hair (good nutrition) good teeth, well formed symmetrical body with no rickets etc. He had money and could pursue her, and win her as his prize.
The fact that he was then emasculated by her and is now so very bitter and angry is another side of the same story in fact I'm surprised she's not been denounced as a demon lover, or a witch for robbing him of his manhood

Anyone thought of asking the chaps on a male forum, eg Pistonheads? I'm sure they would tell us.....
