I'm back, he was a nice enough bloke but zero chemistry.. It has reassured me that not all the blokes on POF are weirdos only after one thing, but I won't be seeing him again. We had that really awkward moment saying goodbye where neither of us knew what to do..... so he just said if I wanted to see him again send a text.

waving I'd still go if I were you

"Yeah sure" are the words of dating doom in my experience anyway, I would have cancelled on that basis alone!

Nevergoingtolearn · 12/09/2015 20:30

I have now closed all my OLD accounts Sad, just got a bit too much for me, I'm still talking to one ( Mr 2 hours away ) and we are meeting in a couple weeks time, we are still messaging each other every day but we will see how things go when we actually meet, if it doesn't work out I think I will take a break from dating for a while and try and meet people in other ways ( maybe try and get out more ).

CocoPlum · 12/09/2015 20:34

I've closed.mine too never. I need to start a post on how I can toughen up a little and boost myself before I try again.

Jelly glad it went ok, are you going to send him a "no spark" type message?

Nevergoingtolearn · 12/09/2015 20:53

I don't think I will ever toughen up coco, I just can't handle the rejection, even if I don't even like them I still find it really hard when they vanish or if they say they don't want to see me ( most just vanish ), and then there's the clingy ones which I can't tell the to 'f off' as I don't want to hurt their feelings. Since closing my accounts I have had several messages from people I have been chatting too in and off on FB and whatsapp, people just being nosey invade I have removed myself because I have found someone. I will go and meet the guy I have been chatting too as we seem to have a lot in common, he has no ties, has been single a long time but does live quite far away, I know if it doesn't work out I will be taking a break from dating for a while, it's too much hard work and I spend too much time stressing about it.

CocoPlum · 12/09/2015 20:55

You sound a lot like me never!

onemorerose · 12/09/2015 22:52

I might just do that daddy. See what he says. I guess there's the chance of meeting someone if I do go out but all their husbands will be there too.
Waving I think you were right not to go, onwards and upwards is right!
Jelly at least he was normal, I can imagine the awkwardness though.
I think you are all very brave to go and meet these guys, I will be so nervous. Mr builder has been messaging me all night but no call??

fastdaytears · 13/09/2015 08:33

Hi daters,

Am new to the thread, hi everyone. I can see this is bad timing as some of you are leaving OLD but I really don't feel like I meet anyone IRL so think it's maybe the best option for me.

Can you prescribe me a site/sites? I'm really worried about the rejection so I need to toughen up. I'm a size 16 so need to get used to some rejection, but is there a site where the men are a bit less mean? I don't want random hook ups. Looks aren't really important to me compared to everything else. I'm quite driven and successful and probably want men to be the same. Don't have DC and don't have a strong opinion on wanting a man with or without.

What would you all recommend?

Thank you! Cake

fastdaytears · 13/09/2015 08:35

Oh I'm 31 if that's relevant

dontcallmehonreturns · 13/09/2015 09:17

Fastday I used to be a regular on the dating threads, but I don't post anymore as I'm happily in a relationship with someone I met online. I found okcupid good. Size 16 is nothing! With OLD just put a few good pictures on and you know that whoever is chatting to you already likes the look of you. It has taken me two years of dating though and it is never an easy process unless you get v lucky straight away!

I liked the idea of GSM (being a proper Guardian reading MNer Grin) but I did read somewhere that it's a lot of people wanting hook ups. Just not as honest about it as Tinder! Don't know if that's true. Age wise I like older so I guess 35-45. Where are they all?

Thank you both! Nice to hear a success story and know am not alone...

dontcallmehonreturns · 13/09/2015 09:49

I hate POF, but I know some would disagree. Of the free sites, I found okc had more educated men. I also used match and did meet someone off there, but it didn't work out. I found match quite slow though and preferred the traffic on Okc.

dontcallmehonreturns · 13/09/2015 10:18

Definitely not asking too much. I'm 35 with dc and wanted a relationship. There will be people on every site wanting a hook up, but the questions on Okc allow you to weed a lot of those out. I didn't pay - I think it allows you to search for people anonymously and you might rank higher in search results.

I'm only on POF, it's been ok so far but I'm fairly thick skinned and have a highly tuned bullshit radar so don't even message most of them back. My age range is 38-50 (I'm 49) cos I found that the blokes look much older than their age..... How a 46yr old can look like a 66yr old I don't know!!

I've has messages off blokes in their 20s & 30s who've put their age as older cos they're looking to shag an older woman.... What's that all about??

If you were on 2 sites & saw a lot of the same faces (who presumably recognise you) would that make you seem a little sad?

Text the bloke from yesterday to say I'd enjoyed meeting him but felt there was no spark, he sent a polite reply... Like I said he's a nice bloke, just not for me

Waving wow it sounds like you're doing pretty well! I'm a lawyer and am pretty anti dating lawyers so MrLawyer will probably have a lot more fun with you!

Hmm you guys have made me think this might be sort of fun. I'll give PoF a go.

I'm not sure being 31 will give me much of an advantage with the 45 year olds who are looking for 30 year olds. I'm a bad combination of being quite middle aged (no all night clubbing for me!) but not having kids yet so have all that horror ahead of me! Not sure I'm a catch!

How funny! I'm the opposite! Actually historically I'm not at all- it's all about the lawyers, but I'm determined to NOW be the opposite!

fastdaytears · 13/09/2015 13:57

^
Now the musician on Thursday on the other hand. I'm wondering why on earth he's picked me!^

Well you seem nice and funny! Maybe it's that or the pouty bikini shot (apologies if there's ACTUALLY a pouty bikini shot I'm not stalking you!)

Oysterbabe · 13/09/2015 14:21

Fastday I was 32 when I met my now husband on match. 2 years later and we're married with a baby on the way.
Prior to that I went on a lot of Pof dates and they were mostly fine. I had a couple of short relationships that fizzled out after 3-6 months with pof men. Went on match and DH was my third date from there and within a month of signing up.
I think there's a lot of luck involved and all the sites have positives and negatives. I'd recommend just jumping in with pof, getting out on some dates and getting a feel for how it works.
Best of luck!
