The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Wading Through Winter Blues Without The Booze!

Mouseface · 17/02/2014 21:47

I'm Mouse, nice to meet YOU. Smile

This is a thread for those who want to give up drink completely, or are maybe thinking about doing controlled drinking, or cutting down slowly, it's all up to you. And of course all addictions, so if you are taking drugs of any kind, prescription or otherwise, you're very welcome here too!

You know your limits, you know what is required, it's all in YOUR hands.

Whatever your goal, you'll find unconditional support here. Always. :)

There will be talk of drinking quite often and those who fall off the Bus will post about it, so if that is going to jeopardise your chances of complete sobriety, then maybe the DRY threads would suit you better, as they are complete abstainers, but EVERYONE IS WELCOME HERE :)

There are two sayings that we rather like here -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

For those of you who'd like some history, here is the very first thread and the reason that we're all here now. FIRST EVER THREAD

And the most recent so you can work your way back through time IS JUST HERE

The Bus may be 'mythical', but the support is real, it is honest and it will help you to achieve what it is that YOU seek, as long as you are honest with us, but mostly, YOURSELF

agh I'm already thinking about wine. It keeps popping into my head. Not with any great intensity, just every fifteen bloody minutes. Annoying.

Chippingnortonset123 · 18/02/2014 15:09

And you are right. One day at a time is no way to live.

beachestoexplore · 18/02/2014 15:13

Crickey, nearly missed the bus! Hi to you all.

Why I read a Mandela quote the other day and thought of you, something along the lines of 'don't judge me on my success but on the number of times I fell and got back up.' You seem to possess some of that and fwiw I think you already are a smashing mum. X

Spanna hey babe Smile. It's so easy to get sucked back into the hamster wheel, I am having the same trouble and I don't have any of your pressures. It is always good to see you post, drinking or not. I hope the ebay sales blow the roof off xx

Spinach now your evening sounds lovely! box set, Chinese, face pack. Sometimes it's a real treat to be alone Grin

Sui are you on day 2 or 3? That is brilliant, those first few days are definitely the most difficult - the WW (weed witch was inspired faire!) seems to spend every 5 minutes in your thoughts. That will ease off a bit. Keep going Smile

Waves to guggs, mouse, soc, hope, venus, Ma, baby, rural, sweet, I'm and to the other babes out there dealing with all their stuff.

beachestoexplore · 18/02/2014 15:22

Is Crickey even a word? A slightly more butch Crikey perhaps Grin

lookingforhope · 18/02/2014 16:19

Hi Babes. Just checking in on a peaceful Tuesday here. Dd and her pal are downstairs in a home made 'den' watching Mamma Mia. (bit embarrassing when they moved the sofa cushions to reveal the mess, but on a high note I had been wondering where my collection of crisp crumbs, stale popcorn and hair clips had gone to), and ds and his friend are on the Xbox in his room. Wankbadger is out doing his pretend job without pay or point to it sorry, important journalism (snort) and all is happy in the hope house without him.

Sorry to hear some of you are having a hard time. Why, you are so brave, and you will be back with DC soon and all his bus aunties will be looking out for you both (ooh, bus aunties! I wonder what our dcs would think if they knew how blessed they are to have so many secret crazy aunties with a mythical amphibious bus, fish called Barrie, dog called... well, best not to alarm them too much Grin).

Spanna, Rural - sorry the WW got you - here are some opal fruits, pop them in the glove compartment in the sidecar until you are ready to come back aboard. Spanna hope your ebay bids are up today. Great news about the house! Get new sofas with cushions you can glue down unless you love vacuuming. Grin

Spinach, Sui - glad you are still with us. Has anyone offered you an opal fruit? (worried the sweetie monitors will notice how many I have access to lately - amazing what you find under seat cushions, as I just learned Blush)

Beaches thanks for asking about dd. We don't need braces for a couple of years till her back teeth come in, but she did need glasses. Was not happy, but she was fairly mature about it and chose a way cool pair - thought she would go for the apologetic, almost invisible frames but she went for a black pair which make quite a fashion statement - she was like 'if I'm going to wear glasses I may as well go for it'. She looks lovely in them, and they are only to see the blackboard in class anyway so she won't wear them much. Felt about 100 years old as kept wanting to say 'blackboard' instead of 'whiteboard'. Grin Blush

Happy not to be in work today, though not being very good about eating, exercise or housework (should be doing it now but am rebellling). Today our evil overlord was visiting the serfs in the regional office, with a crew of acolytes to tell us the result of our latest review. Decided not to dial in to the teleconference (am in the bad books as would not give up my annual leave to lay the red carpet and generally grovel) and told colleagues not to ring me with the results and spoil my holiday as will find out on Thursday if it means redundancy or not. Weirdly it is not preying on my mind as much as I thought it would, no idea why (could be the citalopram Grin) Or maybe work has been hell for so long I am getting immune - we have been under constant review for 3 years now.

"Venus" hello, hope you are better now and that you had a good holiday

Mouse thanks for the shiny new thread Smile

Faire, Soc, Guggs, Anne, everyone - see you soon. Off to fold some clothes now and move piles of junk around listlessly tidy up.

guggenheim · 18/02/2014 16:22

Hi there babes

How's it going? Anyone getting twitchy round about 4 ish? It's very strange but there seem to be fixed points and times when cravings hit us obviously the good news about that is that once you can see the pattern it's easier to ignore and plan around.

Hi there beaches- that's a good quote. venus I hope you are well and all tanned from your holiday.

spinach the every 15 mins stage is bloody irritating- honestly see i through and it rapidly begins to be once and hour, then once every few hours etc etc. It's sort of nagging away at you right now trying to drag you back in. It will fade. What do you like doing? We can help with some ways to keep busy.

Right I've had a boring day planning but I am going to force myself to go for a run or at least a nice long walk. Clear the cobwebs.
Love to all.

guggenheim · 18/02/2014 16:29

looking your posts always make me laugh,in the right way obviously!
I am definitely secret crazy aunt material Smile bet your dd looks lovely.
How about throwing off the evil overlords? We could go into business together. I have no idea what we would do but I have firm beliefs that a pleasant working environment is the only way ahead.
Seriously, worrying about this shit has absolutely no effect on the outcome much better to detach from it not that i've managed that myself

Imdoingthis · 18/02/2014 16:41

Hi brave babes
Still here on day four today, things are hard at home.

Waving around bus to all x

lookingforhope · 18/02/2014 16:44

Definitely up for going into business Guggs. What shall we do? Superhero Agency? Or something more prosaic?

In my fantasy life I and my friends talk about locking the wankbadgers in a shed and setting up a women and kids commune where the homemakers amongst us would do the school runs etc and the wage earners would set up an amazing co-operative utilising all our different skills. So a sort of cake-shop / deli with sidelines in PR, insurance underwriting, accountancy, home tutoring and beauticians services. Then in the evenings we would all live in harmony, nobody shouting or watching football or criticising our parenting skills. You are all welcome to join us if we ever get it off the ground, we could do with am amphibious bus.

lookingforhope · 18/02/2014 16:45

(oh look, here's me, still on MN when I promised to go and do the housework. And now it's going dark so I can't see to tidy up. Mwah ha haaa)

lookingforhope · 18/02/2014 16:48

Oh, missed you there I'm. what's up lovely? talk to us x

Fairenuff · 18/02/2014 17:04

Can we have fairy lights in the commune please? Smile

spinach how's it going? Have you eaten yet? Get all your goodies out and start spoiling yourself.

I've been for a long walk with dd. Trying to do my 10,000 steps a day, we got as far as 8,000 but it poured down and we got soaked. I've had a hot bath and am wrapped in clean pjs and warm fluffy socks already.

lookingforhope · 18/02/2014 17:10

oooh Faire, envying the PJs and socks scenario. DD and I are going to see our little cousins after I drop her friend off and then have a takeaway with my niece so can't get ready for bed till at least 9.00pm

But yes, I imagine given the amount of daughters between us all the commune will be awash with fairy lights. And glitter. And Little Mix posters (hope this isn't putting anyone off)

The boys can have their own massive shed for their Minecraft and football stuff - with a 70's style serving hatch for food....

ItsTheOnlyWayToLive · 18/02/2014 18:04

Hi, marking place on new thread, hugs to all, what a popular thread we have, another 1000 posts come and gone!

Thanks for starting this thread, Mouse. It means a lot to me and I think many others on here, and I hope it helps you, too xxxx

aliasjoey · 18/02/2014 18:30

Hello Babes

anyonecangrowspinach · 18/02/2014 18:41

I'm all right thanks faire. I've been DIYing until about 15 minutes ago, working through the witching hours until I'm hungry. Once I've eaten all should be fine. I'll be off to get my junk food and treats shortly!

Thanks for the check-in beaches, looking. It's nice to know you're thinking of me. guggs, we have a lot in common Smile. 4pm is a bad time for me, particularly on weekends. I get ratty, restless and distracted, and the cravings start to make an appearance (peaking 5-7). The thoughts have died back a bit now, I feel like I've made it over the hump. And it's only twenty to seven. What funny things they are. Thinking about it, I quite often regret drinking by as early as 8pm. Not tonight! Smile.

dementedma · 18/02/2014 19:57

Hey all. Where on earth are all these opal fruits coming from? If I find someone has raided the emergency box........
Am v v tired. Insurance company wrote of my car today so now have all the finance/loan hassle to sort out. Getting a lift tomoz from lovely boss, then staying tomorrow night with work colleague as can't get home then a late night In Edinburgh Thursday night until dh can pick me up again.I'm like a travelling circus. If dh would go out to the shop I would drain a bottle of wine but he wont so riding it out......

guggenheim · 18/02/2014 21:56

Hey there ma hope the ww has buggered orff now.

spinach when I first got on the bus the ww would begin bothering me at 11 am,sometimes 9.30! I wasn't ever drinking at that time- teachers aren't allowed to for obvious reasons Smile but the craving was there and the little plan to buy a bottle at the m&s at the station. It was a big day for me the first time I walked past M&S.I agree about regretting it by 8 ish. Did you say that you had quit in the past? I might well have got you confused so ignore if I have that wrong.

Hello there joey and it's

looking superhero agency it is then. Hooray! I like the sound of the commune. Can I do childcare /teaching,gardening and muck out the boys shed? Anything at all as long as it isn't cooking? I'm a terrible cook.

How are you I'm?

Right off to bed. I have had a good sober evening. The inlaws came round for dinner and it was fine,I'm happy I can do that sober.

ruralreynard · 18/02/2014 22:10

guggenheim · 18/02/2014 22:40

I'm i'm so sorry- what a disgusting pathetic excuse for a man to hurt an animal. My heart really goes out to you,I wish I had something more helpful to say. Sad

Yes,being sober will give you back some control and I've often used food to get me through cravings. Well done for taking control and staying away from the ww. Hope you can get away from him or that he buggers off somewhere a long way away- mars for instance.

SoberSocFish · 19/02/2014 00:49

I'm so sorry. What a fucking waste of space that man is. What kind of person kills a pet. Wish I could help you. Stay sober - it will give you strength to deal with all this shit. Eating is a good idea. Thinking of you xx

Imdoingthis · 19/02/2014 02:30

lookingforhope · 19/02/2014 08:24

Well done on day 4 I'm. You are doing so well under such stressful circumstances. Keep it up, you are better able to stand up to him sober. So sorry about your rabbit. It is unbelievable that someone would do that, he sounds like a piece of work. How is it going with SS?
