The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Posters, Lurkers, Old Or New, Come Take A Seat, This Bus Is For YOU!

Hello, I'm Mouse Smile

A huge big welcome to the Brave Babes threads.

We're a varied group of posters, on this wonderfully supportive, non judgemental, gigantic Bus, and we are all heading in the same direction - towards Sobriety.

Some of us don't touch a drop of alcohol, some of us do. Some of us drink too much, openly admit it and are desperate to stop and some of us are trying to manage controlled drinking.

No matter what we're doing, we're just trying to do it One Day At A Time.

What ever you need, what ever your habit, chances are that there'll be another poster who is just like you or has been where you are now, already here, waiting to talk or just listen :)

Yes, some of us have been here for a longer time than others, some of us for just a few days but that's what makes this Bus so great imo, the variety of knowledge and understanding :)

This Bus has been whizzing along various roads now for almost four years thanks to the very desperate cry for help from THIS THREAD BY JWN

And if you'd like to read some of the other threads, maybe how we got to where we are today, then you can follow them back using the links RIGHT HERE

Hope to see you soon :)

Grin at being parked outside a wutherspoons getting pissed.
I managed a full 5k today so am dead chuffed, although it took 42 minutes to do it. Very hot and sweaty and hard work but got there in the end. 9 weeks ago I struggled to run for a minute - the C25k programme really works.
Got dh a T-shirt for fathers day. Ds chose it because it has the muppets on and says "Muppet of the year" which gives me a small private smile Smile.we are skint so couldn't buy any wine and cracked open a bottle of champagne which I won ages ago and had been keeping for god knows what. Doing the ironing and drinking Moet et Chandon .....what a strange life lead.
Aaargh, just realised this might be a mean post for those fighting the wine witch....sorry.

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 16/06/2013 18:04

School fair yesterday - remember those days of having a go on the tombola in the hope of winning a bottle of wine? Because alcohol 'doesn't count' if you haven't bought it yourself? Hmm I steered clear of that 'logic' and had a cake-pop instead.

Have got some wine tonight, but didn't have anything at in-laws this afternoon. And have made a decision; although not ready to abstain completely, I've decided I will never again drink during the day. I've managed for many months now, and it really is a no-brainer. I feel happier and more in control, and it doesn't even feel like too much of a loss.

Okay, you heard it here first - no booze during the day. Ever. (Really hoping this won't be tested soon with a birthday breakfast bucks fizz or something! Although that's very unlikely)

Edinbugger · 16/06/2013 18:51

Blimey Ma - that's impressive, well done! What was it like? Was it round Arthur's seat???? I'm so bloody unfit at the moment that a 5k feels about as achievable as a marathon so totally in awe.

sweetie - you are so right about tombola. I remember one year I kept going back and back until I won some wine. When I discovered it was alcohol free I was beyond livid. Blush .

dementedma · 16/06/2013 19:03

hey edinbugger no it was just a training run for the Race for Life in Kirkcaldy next Sunday. Did the Arthur's seat one years ago and ended up walking most of it!
Honestly, download the NHS Couch to 5K podcast and it will get you from one minute to 5K in 9 weeks. promise! I've been doing it for the last 8 years and it hasnt let me down yet - although I must admit at pushing 50 I have found it hard going this year. There is a whole thread of people on here from total beginners to proper runners and you get lots of support. Its like a Gerald for runners ....

Edinbugger · 16/06/2013 19:17

I love that Ma - 'just' a training run for next week! That means by next weekend you'll have run 2 x 5k!!! I did the Arthur's seat one about 10 years ago (when I was three stone lighter) and it nearly bloody killed me. I've done the odd burst of c25k (or variations) at times since but never really stuck at it. Back doing it again at the moment but only on week two and finding it shamefully hard cos I'm dragging round a lot of extra weight but you've inspired me to keep going. Good luck for next week!

dementedma · 16/06/2013 19:42

it is bloody hard edinbugger and I have struggled this year, as I am carrying a lot of extra weight too. good for you on getting to week 2 and keep at it, it does get "better" if not easier lol
am down two sizes and a lot more toned, but not lost much in actual pounds.
oh, and I will have done 3 x 5K by next weekend as have to fit another one sometime this week!!! my hips ache like nobody's business but I'm determined to keep at it

ImaHexGirl · 16/06/2013 20:25

Hello just checking in - I love the way this thread takes so many twists and turns.

I'm having a glass of wine or two tonight. Its been a nice day and very busy (we were lucky to go to one of the Despicable Me screenings) and now I'm shattered. More than that though is that it has been a v emotionally draining for various reasons. I need to take some time tomorrow and think about how to get myself back on track with life in general. Sorry, feeling a bit wiped out tonight and deflated. Will return tomorrow but am feeling inspired by the talk of running and getting fit.

Fairenuff · 16/06/2013 20:41

Bloody hell ma you really are cranking it up these days. Fantastic! I think you should change back to determined ma. Just look what you're capable of when you put your mind (and body) to it.

< goes to find a hat to put on so she can take it off to ma > Grin

Sweetie I used to have several goes at the tombola in the hope of winning a bottle of wine for a few pence. These days I 'man' the stall and it's interesting to watch who has a go and how they act around the alcohol. You would be amazed at the number of adults who try to cheat by taking more than their allocated number of tickets. We have to keep quite a sharp eye on them.

Jango how did the bush trimming go? Wink Grin

Hey Hex sorry to hear you're a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Stick with us, we'll get you through it x

lonnika · 16/06/2013 20:50

Day 48 today ( I think - have actually lost count). Tired.com as stayed up to watch con air last night (and anything beyond 10 o'clock is late for me) - another good thing about not drinking is watching films throughout to the end :) - Weighed myself today and I have lost 7lbs in 7 weeks - :). Hope all babes having a good one. - just about to watch BB and then sleep ready for another week - night night all :) x

Hello to ALL BABES!!

BUT................ Lonni - I have to single you out and applaud you for 48 whole days. That is truly fabulous, you super star you!!!

It's so great when we have such positive posts and such upbeat Babes.

Good or bad, please post Babes xxx

I've got 4 sleeps until my sponsored hobble for the Woolly Hugs lot and World Child Cancer. Do you think I'll make it? I've ordered all of my meds and morphine so it's going to be more of a sponsored float Grin

Time to tidy and feed the teenager before she expires. Or at least that's the impression she's giving me.... Hmm

I've booked a spray tan for Thursday, not for my hobble, for my friends's little girls' party on Saturday as we've both decided we need a summer treat! I could be an orange hobbling Mouse on Friday PM!

Will put some pics up of the hobble once we've done it. :) xxx

Morning all Smile

Isinde sugar and caffeine will be very hard to avoid I expect but you should be alright with the crisps. What are you going to have instead? I sometimes slice cucumbers very thin and put a drop of vinegar on them and pretend they're crisps. (I know, I really do need to get out more Grin)

This afternoon I am taking thirty 7 year olds swimming. I think I will be in need of something hot and sweet when I get home.

Mouse Hello lovely, good luck with the hobble. Well done for raising so much sponsorship for your cause, my orangetastic furry friend.

Today is Try Hard Tuesday. Make that commitment to get through today, just one day without a drink. Try so very hard, keep busy, go to bed early, take up knitting or naked handstands - whatever it takes to get you safely from one moment to the next.

Have a great day babes x
