The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Posters, Lurkers, Old Or New, Come Take A Seat, This Bus Is For YOU!

Mouseface · 24/05/2013 10:33

Hello, I'm Mouse Smile

A huge big welcome to the Brave Babes threads.

We're a varied group of posters, on this wonderfully supportive, non judgemental, gigantic Bus, and we are all heading in the same direction - towards Sobriety.

Some of us don't touch a drop of alcohol, some of us do. Some of us drink too much, openly admit it and are desperate to stop and some of us are trying to manage controlled drinking.

No matter what we're doing, we're just trying to do it One Day At A Time.

What ever you need, what ever your habit, chances are that there'll be another poster who is just like you or has been where you are now, already here, waiting to talk or just listen :)

Yes, some of us have been here for a longer time than others, some of us for just a few days but that's what makes this Bus so great imo, the variety of knowledge and understanding :)

This Bus has been whizzing along various roads now for almost four years thanks to the very desperate cry for help from THIS THREAD BY JWN

And if you'd like to read some of the other threads, maybe how we got to where we are today, then you can follow them back using the links RIGHT HERE

Hope to see you soon :)

hi all
have spent the day so far moving everyone else's crap out of the kitchen/hall/sitting room and dumping it in their own bedrooms. this flat is a shit hole! Also got the weeks shopping. done two loads of laundry - one hanging out in the rain and one lying around untidying the kitchen again, have dropped DD1 at the Gym, picked dd2 up FROM the gym, taken DD1 to the stables for a yard party, been to the dump to do the recycling, coloured my hair, done half a dozen loads of dishes and swept all the floors.Day off. my arse!
Now there is something wrong with my bloody car - clutch slipping I think - and as I dont have enough money to get to pay day as it is, i am totally pissed off!

Mouseface · 15/06/2013 17:01

Hey Clutter :) x

Have a look at this

Or try here too, I've looked at ones in supermarkets at lower % abvs and they seem to be worth a go. Can't find the link you mean having skimmed the thread for you, sorry.

I started off reducing my wine with spritzers which actually did help, and I made sure that the alcohol content was low, really low like less than 5% or something.

My 'need' was a habitual one, not a physical dependency, so it was easy for me to switch because I wanted to to have a drink, it didn't matter what it was, then it became N&Ts (nothing and tonics) with crushed ice and fresh lime juice.

There are so many gorgeous juice and cordials out there. M&S do some lovely ones, ones with sugar in that will help keep the sugar cravings down.......

I love M&S but I want the diet versions because it's not the sugar I want any longer, it's the 'something to sip' if that makes sense?

Right, bath time for the fish. Heating is going on in June to warm the bathroom, can you believe it?

Be back later xxx

Ma - WOW!!!!!!

You've kicked ass today on the housekeeping front! I need you here!

Sorry about the car, do you know anyone who could have a look at it for you and see if they can keep it going until you can get a replacement? PITA cars..... my dad said to me that once I learned to drive and got a car, I'd regret it for EVER! And I did, £££££££ down the drain :( xx

Back later :)

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 15/06/2013 17:14

It was theala I think who mentioned the de-alcohlised wine, but I don't know what it was called.

Mouseface · 15/06/2013 18:08

Coz of the dust, gets in my eyes and makes them water. Wink

Thanks officialsweetie, I'll need to have a read back as she made some really good suggestions on what wines to have and a link to a really good website.
Thanks for links mouse. We are having a bbq for family and friends in a few weeks, its a yearly thing and I'm really looking forward to catching up with people. For me though I know when I see others with big glasses of vino I may want one so thought I'll have some lovely nice white and rose chilling and have a nice glass. So I have taste, visual, the glass of wine but no getting silly drunk & horrendous hangover the next day!
Wow MA you have indeed kicked ass today! Agree with you though the weekends are not really days off, their harder as no nursery / school etc for kids so relentless! X

dementedma · 15/06/2013 18:19

yeah, I've kicked ass but I'm simmering resentful about the lack of help from the other adults in the house. The dds treat this place like a hotel and I am sick to the back teeth of nagging, cajoling, threatening to get them to help more. they leave stuff lying about everywhere - mostly litle things but it all adds up. Just put the fucking stuff away so I dont have to do it all!!
I'm growly and pissed off

Mouseface · 15/06/2013 19:21

It was Tatty who got the de-alcoholised wine, I'm just searching for the link now x

Have just taught my DD (10) how to make a cup of tea Smile

When can I teach her how to cook, serve and wash-up a 3-course meal?

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 15/06/2013 20:08

Grin at mouse dust-makes-your-eyes-water excuse

Well all this smuginess about being in control flew out the window when DH informed me we are having lunch at the in-laws tomorrow. Oh joy. Still not drinking when over at their house (must be nearly a year doing that - except Christmas - but still hard going sometimes)

But, I kind of want a drink afterwards as a 'reward' for managing it (yes, I know that's all wrong, but hey once issue at a time)

But, only allowed to drink one night a week, which means I have to go without tonight. No chance to buy anything tomorrow, so the wine is already bought and Not Being Drunk.

Anyway, I was thinking how to stop myself obsessing all evening about the wine Not Being Drunk - and reverted to my old tactic of getting pain au chocolats : the rule is, I can have one (or two) for breakfast as long as I stayed sober the night before.

Drunk or fat, those are my options. Smile

ohcluttergotme · 15/06/2013 20:40

Thanks Mouse. Have added link to bookmarks.
Official, I would take fat minus negative aspects of drinking wine & having a few tonight may make tomorrow feel a whole lot harder. Plus drinking is negative aspect plus puts on the calories so double whammy!
X

dementedma · 15/06/2013 20:49

sweetie if shes anything like mine she will never learn the washing up part.Angry

lonnika · 15/06/2013 20:51

Sweetie - lol u sound like me :). I could go without drinking when visiting pil - sometimes for up to 3 days - but always rewarded myself with a large glass of wine the minute we came home :).
Whomever asked me about the beta blockers (sorry read and run earlier) - I was prescribed the. For health anxiety (always thought I was dying :( with one type of cancer or another). However I actually think my problem was related to guilt of drinking and the underlying nagging fear of what I was doing to my body!! Minute a gave up - anxiety gone - I no longer take them :))). Honestly feel so much better sober BUT still that WW creeps up on me and makes me want one :/.

Love all the babes on here - think we are all doing great - even those drinking more than they want are prob doing better if there wasn't this thread - Have a good Sunday all

Mouseface · 15/06/2013 21:11

babyjane1 · 16/06/2013 09:01

Morning my fab babes, sorry to lower the tone with talk of wee but mouse I take anti inflammatories which are yellow pee culprits, I suspect you may also take them for your condition???? Also your right about chocolate but I feel hardly bad stealing buttons off of my 2 year old!!! ma I totally sympathise with the running about constantly picking up after DD's, I have 1 at 2 and 1 at 14, they cause equal carnage believe it or not!!! I often forget which one I'm talking to, the wee one was being naughty with her toys and I angrily said "for goodness sake grow up" she said "I can't mum I'm too little" out of the mouth of babes!!! Took my DD1 and 8 friends out for dinner last night for her upcoming birthday and had a glass of wine with dinner, it was pleasant and it stopped there, my constant craving seems for the moment to be gone? lastly a wee update on alcohol services, received a letter to visit a senior phyciatrist tomorrow and ANOTHER home visit, this time from alcohol services team on Thursday, th e whole thing has grown arms and legs and seems an awful waste of resources AND it's causing me to get really stressed? anyway on the glass half full side (pardon the fun) house is very tidy in case of an impromptu visit, a bloody dawn raid wouldn't surprise me with this lot!!!! X x x

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 16/06/2013 10:12

babyj sorry to hear about the alcohol support services - it doesn't sound like they are offering much 'support' ! Turn it around and ask what they can do to actually HELP you!

Or is it SS that are coming, sorry, I'm confused - none of them seem to be very useful. But the same applies, ask them what they intend to do to SUPPORT you!

jango36 · 16/06/2013 10:32

Hi all:) checking on on day two! :))
Yesterday was quite easy to abstain due to being so busy.
Today plan is to keep even more busy. My worst time tends to be around five pm ish. ESP if feeling tired. But for today I will smack that w w in her gob:) she has taken WAY too much of my precious energy and focus.
Planning to do some planting and bush trimming later. At work now so am safe lol
Speak later lovely babes xx

babyjane1 · 16/06/2013 11:17

Fighting talk jango that ww will be quaking in her boots, horses WE are special, love it x x x ps thanks sweet more like the SS but will redirect back to them and see what they can do for me, like your style!!!! Xxxxx

Mouseface · 16/06/2013 12:03

Morning, tis me, Mouse

Baby - yes, I take Brufen Retard that is a slow release Ibuprofen in the morning and at night, and Ibuprofen in between... my meds are due for review as they're not working again. I'm having to take more Oramorph (liquid morphine) through the day so my slower release morphine may need looking at but I really don't want to be taking anymore.

I second that the 'support' you are getting is not really support if it's making you feel anxious but I suppose that will be the case. You are trying so hard to stop drinking and make a change, BIG changes actually, that you will feel pressurised into jumping through hoops to get the help you need.

I agree with Sweetie that you need to ask them what they plan to do to help you get your drinking under control or stop etc.... I'd have a list of what I need ready for the meeting.

What help I feel could work for me, what my triggers are, when I struggle most, how I feel when I do and when I don't drink etc so that you don't forget anything. Writing your thoughts down will certainly help. Big hugs to you lovely, well done for keeping going and trying even though you seem to be getting no real help. xxx

Hello all - lovely to see the board so busy - it always makes me feel a bit panicky when there's a quiet weekend (like you've all given up and parked Gerald up outside a Witherspoons and are in there getting shit faced Grin ).

Anyhoo - just been for a lovely fathers day lunch with DH and the kids - wasn't even tempted to have a drink cos planning to drag my lardy arse out for a wee jog later on. If I'd read that sentence three weeks ago I wouldn't have believed a word of it (except for 'lardy arse').

baby I think you are doing amazingly well albeit in spite of the 'help' you are being offered. Keep up the good work and shame the bastards into doing something that is actually of some use.
