The Brave Babes Battle Bus - All Going On A Sober Holiday! <crosses fingers that it stays sunny>

Hello, tis me, mouse Smile

Welcome to The Brave Babes Battle Bus, grab yourself a seat, they're really comfy and a Brew, oh and a home-made chocolate chip Biscuit before they all get eaten!

We're a Bus full of alcohol abusers/addicts, some of us say it out loud, some whisper it and some aren't ready to say it at all just yet.

That said, there are a few of us who just have the occasional drink and that's something that they can handle. There are a few of us who must NEVER have another drink because that first one will lead to many, many more which will only ever end badly.

We're open to all....there are no requirements to join us on our journey to sobriety, there's support, great laughs, tears and tantrums here and that's just me!!! Grin

If you'd like to see how we got here, follow THIS LINK

Congratulations SAF - a fantastic acheivement!
Hold your nerve JWN it will be a most glorious day, and one that will remember throughout, your DD must be so proud that you will be PRESENT all the way!

Fairenuff · 11/08/2012 12:45

Saf that's totally amazing, you must feel so good about yourself Smile

I'm having a lazy day too. Yesterday I went a bit mad and started redecorating. The day before I tackled the garden. So I'm pleased, getting loads done and the house looks great (well, the bits I've done do anyway) but today I too have run out of ooompf and am putting my feet up Smile

Hello Lelli I hope you are enjoying your bike ride. Welcome to the bus.

Isinde How about 'trouble and strife' Grin

dementedma · 11/08/2012 18:04

aargh, ready to go, waiting for DH to get back from dropping DCs at hall. they look fabulous - DS is wearing a kilt! REallt stressful day - DD1 and DD2 exploded into a humungous row which left DD2 in tears and nearly the whole thing cancelled.
Then a young former colleague of DHs turned up as a surprise = he is cycling round Scotland. Nothing like a handsome young foreigner in teeny weeny cycle shorts to lift the spirits Grin
suddenly the day got a whole lot better!!!
Right. am off to partaaaaaaaaaaaay.
laters babes.

ruralreynard · 11/08/2012 18:24

ma Go for it ,ENJOY . Wish I was there, could do with that young man in cycle shorts to lift my spirits at the mo Grin.

just catching up...

mouse bloody hell, you have a CAT as well as everything else going on?! Don't tell me - you volunteer down the old folks home, and knit for starving Africans as well.... bloody superwoman... you deserved a holiday! Hope you're enjoying it!

Mouseface · 11/08/2012 22:44

Evening, tis me, Mouse

I'm posting from the gorgeous cottage we've rented for the week. Today we went to the gorgeous beach, tucked away in amongst dunes and trees...

Joey - Grin your post made lol. Seth is in the kennels, Mabel in the cattery, The house is sorted...... all is well worth the world back at home.

I've been watching the Olympics as they've gone in bits and bobs.... Tom Daley did great in the end didn't he?

Anyway, Nemo loved the sea-side but wasn't a fan of sand being on his feet. Sensory disorders are not great for a three year with no support from OT! But that's a whole other story.

It's wonderful here, we've booked to come back again!! Grin It feels so right IYKWIM; as if we were supposed to find this place as a base to be.

Nemo is fast asleep, DD and her friend who is lovely, are upstairs on Facebook and the like......

I'm off to bed now but will check in again soon.

Night night xxx

Hi all, just marking my place as this had dropped of my threads.

kot - you star! Brilliant to hear that. Smile

Well, I have had a setback on account of going out for a meal with DH for our anniversary, but I'm not guilt-tripping myself about it too much. We shared a bottle of wine and had a glass of fizz each, which isn't wonderful but isn't awful either. And now I am sitting here with a glass of de-alc cobra beer, which is not bad at all!

Hope everyone is having a peaceful Saturday night.

Just wanted to give you a quick hug, isinde, so glad to hear it's day 3, I was reading your earlier posts and you sounded in a bad way, so good on you for climbing out of that!

Night night all

It will, for me, I know that. It's how I ended up breaking nearly a year of being sober - I thought I could drink on special occasions, or just a little, and wouldn't need to work hard at it any more. So it wasn't the best idea ... but thank you very much for saying that, it's really kind and I appreciate it.

swallowed yes my second weekend. Yesterday I was finding it hard so I said to myself that I could have a glass of wine later, after dinner. I ate dinner and then when it came to it I realised that I didn't actually want the wine so I had a cup of tea instead Grin

best ceilidh EVER. It's official. Tottered to bed at 2am and now have to go and finish clearing the hall. DCS had done a brilliant job decorating it with bunting and strings of fairy lights and jam jars of wild flowers on the tables, and more jam jars with night lights hanging from the trees outside.
We were overwhelmed with gifts and cards and DD1 had dug up (not literally) two old school friends I hadn't seen in years so it was lovely to see them too.
DD2 sang an acapella version of "Summertime" which was breathtaking - sitting on the edge of the stage swinging her bare - and dirty - feet and just singing.
will try and put some pics on later!
didn't overdo it with the drink - had a few but didn't get trollied!
kotinka bloody well done you!

Mouseface · 12/08/2012 10:45

Morning, tis me, Mouse

Apologies for rubbish typing last night, Google seemed to keep crashing and I couldn't open it this morning so I hope my post made sense?

Koti - 6 days is awesome. You should start to feel physically better soon, if you don't already, well done you, you should be very proud of how hard you've worked to achieve 6 whole days. xx

Ma - that sounds absolutely wonderful. Magical even. I can almost hear DD singing, she has the most exquisite voice and singing Summertime? Wow, I'd have been crying with the pure emotion she delivered in every word. I'm so pleased that you all had such a wonderful time. Well done on not getting "trollied"! Grin

Well, you'll never guess what...... it's raining in Wales Grin who'd have thought it? Wink

Today DD and her friend are off to see McFly in Rhyl so DH, Nemo and I have to amuse ourselves for a couple of hours. We're either going to water-proof ourselves and go walking or go to the sea life place there.

See how we're feeling later, my pain levels are through the roof again after the long car journey yesterday and the early start today. My body is rebelling against me.

I got up with Nemo and left DH in bed. He's just come down complaining that every time he dozed off, Nemo woke him up again so he hasn't slept and keeps saying how tired he is because of broken sleep patterns................... welcome to my world pal!

I'm off to empty the dishwasher, clear the kitchen and get the girls up ready to beautify and glam up for their big treat.

Have a nice day everyone. Well done to those who managed a drink free night, or a controlled night.

To those who have woken feeling like Deep Fried Dos Vomit after drinking excessively last night, you need lots of water, pain killers for the headache and plenty of stodgy foods.

Maybe today could be day one if you're feeling bad enough to stop yet? Think it over...... Maybe, just maybe, you'd feel better for giving it a go? Smile

LRDtheFeministDragon · 12/08/2012 11:28

Morning.

mouse, hope the pain feels better soon.

demented - that sounds amazing, really beautiful. Smile

mrsm - good for you! I need to do more of that tea-making.

insinde - how old are your twins? Hope the rest of the night went without incident!

notdrinking · 12/08/2012 19:25

Back to Day 1 of not drinking today......tomorrow.

Moral support most welcome

Fairenuff · 12/08/2012 19:52

ma what a night to remember! So glad it went well and your dd singing with her dirty feet dangling, aah - what a little free-spirit. You've done something right there, to raise dcs who show such independence, empathy and confidence Smile

notdrinking day 1 is a great day. It's a day full of possibilities. It's a day where you can make a choice. You'll be fine x

swallowedAfly · 12/08/2012 19:56

evening all.

well done to those who've made it through the weekend Smile

ceilidh sounds lovely ma - very, very jealous.

pretty easy weekend as ds went to play at a friends for the afternoon yesterday then today he played with another friend whose come back from holiday at last this morning then we went to my folks for sunday dinner this afternoon. just realised that i didn't even think twice about their drinking wine today which is cool - i barely registered it till i looked back.

have promised ds he can stay up late and i will watch fantastic four with him - will no doubt be shite but it's something we haven't seen. have ordered a ton of curry and sundries as a local curry house was doing a 45% of offer tonight so i will be eating indian for days Grin saves me worrying about cooking for myself (which i loathe).

best go and get settled in.

have a good evening everyone. hope the sun is shining in wales tomorrow mouse x

aliasjoey · 12/08/2012 20:14

hello babes

we had a lovely time in Wales - sorry mouse I think we used up all of the allotted Welsh sunshine!

although I drank less than I would have normally - mainly by having the first drink much later than usual - by day 5 I was pretty trollied to use mas expression.

Saturday night I actually didn't want any more and had a cup of herbal tea instead Smile but as I drank it I felt incredibly depressed. Don't know if that's because alcohol is a depressant? Or just the realisation that I'd had too much, and it wasn't worth it...

Ended up going to bed early and - oh! just remembered - had an acid reflux attack in the night. Had to sleep semi-upright - definitely not worth it. First time I've had reflux for a few months.

Well its easy enough to think about it in hindsight, but actual plans to cope better in the future? Instead of thinking 'I won't drink any wine straightaway' there should be an alternative eg. elderflower, raspberry cordial etc.

On the whole, it wasn't too bad. Mostly controlled, it wasn't till the last night that I had too much.

And welcome to any new babes who boarded the bus while I was away! Did you get your tickets, timetable and list of Who's Who?
