The Brave Babes Battle Bus - All Going On A Sober Holiday! <crosses fingers that it stays sunny>

Hello, tis me, mouse Smile

Welcome to The Brave Babes Battle Bus, grab yourself a seat, they're really comfy and a Brew, oh and a home-made chocolate chip Biscuit before they all get eaten!

We're a Bus full of alcohol abusers/addicts, some of us say it out loud, some whisper it and some aren't ready to say it at all just yet.

That said, there are a few of us who just have the occasional drink and that's something that they can handle. There are a few of us who must NEVER have another drink because that first one will lead to many, many more which will only ever end badly.

We're open to all....there are no requirements to join us on our journey to sobriety, there's support, great laughs, tears and tantrums here and that's just me!!! Grin

just checking in.
Day 3 just about holding out so far.

Hi kotinka . Im sure you won't regret climbing aboard. I
am an almost newbie and its the best thing I ever did. Everyone here is supportive, kind and helpful. Most importantly to me most of them know what it feels like to be where we are now . Well done today.

Gugg Well done to you. Im sure the nights with old drinking buddies won't be easy but look how well you have done so far. You know you can do it!!!

crystal hope you are ok. Thinking about your post when you asked how we get to sleep without drink. I haven't been able to get off to sleep until stupid o clock so far but it happens in the end and I don't wake in the night dying of thirst and feeling dizzy which I nearly always do if I've been drinking

Goodnight all, sleep well.

Fairenuff · 25/07/2012 22:41

JWIM I could not leave your post unanswered, although I understand and respect that you don't expect any replies. 21 years is a lifetime and you miss those lives that should have been and would have been under different circumstances. My heart breaks for you.

My premature baby survived. It was a very close call. Yes, all those people, all that urgency, things happening around you, all surreal but every moment, every second etched on your memory for life. Every heartbeat remembered.

Just sending you love and peace on this especially difficult day x

ruralreynard · 25/07/2012 23:14

JWIM Im very new and I haven't seen any of your previous posts I hope you don't mind me saying my thoughts are with you.
faire said it all really. xx

Hello babes.

JWIM, your post is heartbreaking, my thoughts are with you and your lovely boys. Don't want to say too much but I didn't want to jump in without acknowledging it.

Well.

I clambered onto the bus probably around two years ago now (it does not feel that long ago!). I didn't drink for around a year and wasn't a big poster so don't feel as if you should remember me or anything. But, I've slipped and I've been drinking again for the last few months. I could really use a hand to hold and a seat on Gerald while I try again to get myself back in control. I'm feeling so guilty and hating myself so much, and I thought I'd feel better for coming here and posting instead of trying to sleep, so at least I know I've done it and in the morning I'll be able to look at this and remember not to drink.

I hope that's ok. Smile

Btw, it is lovely to read stuff like missp's post (congratulations! Smile) and I'm so glad to know the babes threads exist.

venusandmars · 26/07/2012 07:14

LRD hello again, and good to see you posting. I have a recollection that you were doing pretty well with drinking alcohol free wine, and had cut down from a hefty amount to about 2 units per week - was that you? If so, are you planning to sue the same strategy again?

venusandmars · 26/07/2012 07:15

errr.... that would be USE the same strategy, not sue it Blush

thurso1 · 26/07/2012 07:24

Morning Venus, morning all,

JWIM I know you didn't want replies, but just to say that my thoughts are with you, and I hope that you and Dh had a close, and peaceful night.

LRDWelcome back, what are your plans?

Dh had a long drive ahead of him today, and so left at the crack of dawn, and I didn't feel like going back to bed, so have already well started the day! I'll be tired later. The garden smelt very nice at 6am though Smile.

Fairenuff · 26/07/2012 09:17

Thurso isn't it lovely in the cool of the early morning. It's almost like being somewhere foreign I feel, seeing our everyday surroundings shimmering in the heat, the completely stark blue sky, and last night, wow, did you see that beautiful pink moon?

No babes I haven't been drinking already, just a little high on life today. Boing! Grin

Hello to LRD and massive well done to MissP x

See you later

NonAstemia · 26/07/2012 10:03

Morning Babes! Smile

I've got a little boing in my step this morning - I booked our holiday last night so I'm rather excited! It's not until next March (I'm booking early to get the cheapest flights) but nevertheless it's something to look forward to and hopefully draw me through the dark winter with the promise of some southern Italian sunshine!

Also DD is back in two days from her adventures, and I've missed her this week (although I must say it's been rather relaxing and I've got quite a lot done...) so I'm looking forward to seeing her.

Happy Thursday everyone!

obrigada · 26/07/2012 10:14

Just want to say my thoughts are with you JWIM.

JWIM · 26/07/2012 10:25

Thank you.

So, a bright sunny day, definitely a boing here and I hope with others too.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 26/07/2012 10:32

Hi venus - yes, good memory! That was me. I am planning to do the same, although at some point during the year I found I wasn't drinking much of the de-alc wine either, maybe a glass a week, I just didn't want to drink so much.

thurso - I think it's just a very simple 'back on the horse' (or Gerald) for me. Smile

How are you all?! I was reading old threads when I couldn't sleep last night and thinking of you and mouseface and JWN and obrigada and isinde, and also silver and MIFLAW whom I don't see here. Hope they are doing well.

Morning fairenough - that's a gorgeous description, it could almost make me want to get up in the mornings! (Not quite. Lazy arse, me.)

Hello astemia - your holiday plans sound lovely!

Hi JWIM - hope 'boing' is good ... I've totally forgotten that, what's it mean?!

Hi kotinka! I don't think I've 'met' you. Are you going for cutting down, or giving up, or what sort of thing? I'm also on day one, so it looks like we're on the same journey.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 26/07/2012 11:56

Best of luck!

I'm cutting out everything except de-alcoholised wine. It's about 0.5% so no good for people who have to be absolutely totally sober, but it worked for me last time I managed to give up the hard stuff, as you can't physically get drunk on it (it's too dilute), but it tastes nice.

(Btw, I bet you absolutely can stop if that's what you want! Not saying you have to want it, but don't do yourself down ... this thread reminds me every time I find it again how much we can do that we don't realize. Sorry, this comment prob. more rambling than anything else.)

LRDtheFeministDragon · 26/07/2012 12:05

Yes, I think that's normal - it's some chemical process. You end up needing more and more to get the same effect. I could be wrong but I think pretty much all addictive drugs (not just alcohol) do this?

You're a braver woman than I am doing it alongside a diet - I'm not disciplined enough for that but maybe later on I will try to get a bit more inspired as it is annoying how much I reach for the sugary crap when I'm not drinking.

Atkins is the high protein/fat, low-carb one, right? What do you have for breakfast?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 26/07/2012 12:13

Yeah, it's a lot of calories. Salmon salad sounds good. I'm rubbish at breakfast ideas but I know I'm more likely to drink if my blood sugar is low, which is why I'm on the lookout for good ideas.

On that note, off to make lunch.

aliasjoey · 26/07/2012 12:38

morning (afternoon?) babes.

Day 3 for me, and I think I'm back on track. Managed to go to Sainsburys yesterday and not buy any wine Smile

Hoping Planning to make it to the weekend. I will be going to my sisters then, wine will flow freely and I think that is an okay time to drink. (After the summer holidays, I might try abstaining completely once more)

I do have to think about how I handle the weekend eg. being aware of the slipperly slope etc. I must not become complacent just because I achieved 7 weeks.

God its hot. Haven't got the energy for introspecting about work/believing in self etc.

NonAstemia · 26/07/2012 15:45

Thanks LRD I'm really excited!

Joey glad you're back on track! Work going any better?

dementedma · 26/07/2012 15:48

found you all! Grin
rural you are doing bloody well. nearly over the 3 day hump and should start feeling better soon.
waves to LRD - good to see you again.
indie where HAVE you been? I've had to drive the bus and everything!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 26/07/2012 20:45

Good to see you too ma! Sorry, I think I missed you out earlier but I did have you in mind.

Btw, has anyone tried milk thistle extract? I drink the tea but I spotted some capsules on the 3 for 2 in the shop today and bought some on spec - what do you reckon?

It is good to have you friendly faces around. Smile

joey - yep, going to the supermarket and going past the wine aisle is my downfall too! Especially when they make to queue past it like in our local Tesco. Grrr. Well done you for resisting!
