The Brave Babes Battle Bus - All Going On A Sober Holiday! <crosses fingers that it stays sunny>

Hello, tis me, mouse Smile

Welcome to The Brave Babes Battle Bus, grab yourself a seat, they're really comfy and a Brew, oh and a home-made chocolate chip Biscuit before they all get eaten!

We're a Bus full of alcohol abusers/addicts, some of us say it out loud, some whisper it and some aren't ready to say it at all just yet.

That said, there are a few of us who just have the occasional drink and that's something that they can handle. There are a few of us who must NEVER have another drink because that first one will lead to many, many more which will only ever end badly.

We're open to all....there are no requirements to join us on our journey to sobriety, there's support, great laughs, tears and tantrums here and that's just me!!! Grin

Well done Isinde, once you've experienced the elusive Boing, it's such a great motivation to get there again isn't it Smile

Ma my heart was going like crazy too and I started seeing spots in front of my eyes so that's why I got the monitor. It was £20 down from £35 but even at full price that would only be about 7 bottles of wine. Worth it to keep the old ticker ticking along Grin

Sounds like Saturday is going to be a blast, can't wait to hear all about it x

The red wine beckons
Banish the destroyer, now
That feels much better

Been just over a week since I posted, had a bad weekend last weekend, drank way way too much, am now on Day 5 and will not be drinking tonight.
Still shudder in complete disgust at the amount of alcohol I put away last weekend, so keeping that memory to the fore to stave off temptation.

Lellipops · 10/08/2012 16:22

Hello lovely babes Smile

Lelli here. Have been reading lots of your insightful, funny, supportive, desperate, positive, enlightening and downright amazing postings (right back to the start of the thread) over the last couple of weeks and feel the need to say: What a wonderful place you have created, mind if I hop on the bus and join you?

I've had a problem with alcohol on and off (mainly on) most of my adult life (I turned 50 a few weeks ago) although it's only in recent years that I have recognised it. Even now I do the "I can control it if I set my mind to it" thing but somehow the bottle of wine (plus) a day habit creeps back into my life to say nothing of the weekends which have been centred around booze for a long time now.

I drink to run away from things, in my past, in my present, the fact that I really don't like myself very much at times but of course those things are still there when I sober up. I use alcohol as a self - lubricant, to make me feel more fun, more confident, more sparkly, more attractive but there's nothing attractive about a drunk as we all know.

The funny thing is that in the last couple of weeks, partly because I have been trying to lose some weight, I have seriously cut down the amount I've drunk and have felt so much better for it.

I want to continue with this and I get the strong sense that this place will be a huge help (already has been tbh).

So I hope to see you all around here soon ..off for a weekend up north so won't be on until next week. Happy weekend all Smile

obrigada · 10/08/2012 17:19

Hi Lelli and welcome to the bus, I am sure there will be more of the Brave Babes around soon to welcome you as well.
I wish all babes a safe and peaceful weekend, I have no internet access at the weekend but look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Hi obridada and kotinka and thanks for the welcomes. I forgot that I can do this on my fone (if the blondeness + senility allows!).

Sorry to hear that your day has been stressful kotinka. Hope you manage to avoid the offy - it's so easy to go to that old comfort when things are tough isn't it? I do it all the time and then end up punishing myself when what I really need is some TLC.

Friday night is usually a tricky one for me - worked hard all week so I deserve that bottle of wine. Tonight I deserve better - a healthy prawn stir fry + some low cal ginger beer, ice + lime. Yum!

Sorry I posted twice - not very good at this fone posting malarkey!

Well done kotinka - you might be a grump right now but just think how good we'll both feel waking up with a clear head on a sunny morning.

I'm off for a bike ride in the lovely Scottish highlands tomorrow. 20 miles will be tough but a whole lot easier without the hangover Smile

Day 9 and I cannot believe it. It has been hard and I have come very close to giving in many times but I'm so glad that I fought the temptation.

I hope you are all doing well and if not then keep trying xx

venusandmars · 11/08/2012 08:20

Morning mrsm - well done you, and make the most of a lovely hangover-free Saturday Smile

swallowedAfly · 11/08/2012 08:45

morning all Smile

welcome aboard lelli.

exactly 4 months today for me. never thought i'd be one of the ones talking in months!

good to see you back indie - wife is pretty loaded isn't it? but partner doesn't mark that you have made that commitment. reckon there needs to be a new word. same word for both men and women would be good though as it wouldn't have the connotations of domestic roles and chattel attached. both gay 'married' couples could use it and straight ones who wanted to get away from the husband/wife power terms.

well done on 9 days mrs - that's great - is this your second weekend then?

hope everyone is well. i'm lazy and in need of a big oompf of energy if anyone has any spare to send over please.

dementedma · 11/08/2012 10:24

quick check in. place going like a fair with food still being prepped and DCs to be collected and the hall still to be decorated and...and....and....
