I have been reading some comments on tge DM site re an interview with a women who was raped. Her rapist has just been convicted. She has had many terrible things said about her in her community due to the rapist being a pillar of tge community.

I wanted to share this comment that someone has made as it sums up what should be obvious to everyone but unfortunately there are some people who don't get it.

You don't get raped because you are drunk - you vomit because you are drunk. You get raped because the rapist standing next to you made the decision to rape you and acted on it. The rapist is the only one accountable for going on to rape a person. End.

what KissMyBaps said

bumbleymummy · 02/06/2012 21:03

Lemarche, I'm focussing on it becuase it was the point of the thread. Hmm

BlackOutTheSun · 02/06/2012 21:05

But again, what makes you think the rapist is just going to look for a drunk woman. He'll go for the easiest target, drunk or not.

IT IS NEVER THE VICTIM'S FAULT just to clarify for those of you who have missed me saying that all the other times on this thread. :)

I agree lemarche, the blame does lie with the rapist. I haven't said otherwise.

BlackOutTheSun · 02/06/2012 21:11

eh? backtracking? where?

KissMyBapsAxlRose · 02/06/2012 21:11

So, again what is the point of your posts then?

What is the point in saying that you will be safer in a group and sober?

If you truly believe that rape is NEVER THE VICTIM'S FAULT then it doesn't matter if she's in a group, on her own, drunk, sober, wearing a nun's habit or a mini skirt...does it?

runningforthebusinheels · 02/06/2012 21:13

Bumbley if you REALLY believe it is NEVER THE VICTIM"S FAULT, then could you please STOP perpetuating rape myths that a woman is more vulnerable to rape if she is drunk?

Portofino · 02/06/2012 21:14

bumbley will reply that that it isn't fault she is talking about but risk....

" by avoiding being drunk you can avoid being raped."

Nope, I haven't said that.

bumbleymummy · 02/06/2012 21:20

I don't think I've ignored any questions either.

KissMyBapsAxlRose · 02/06/2012 21:22

Oh!

You're refusing to acknowledge any points other than those you can say "I didn't say that" to.

Please don't make me cut and paste a bunch of your posts. I've had a couple of glasses of prosecco!

runningforthebusinheels · 02/06/2012 21:25

You most certainly have said that Bumbley! It's you that's backpedalling.

itsthequietones · 02/06/2012 21:25

My attempted rapist picked me out from among my friends. I happened to walk home stone-cold sober wearing a long skirt, black boots and a long black coat as he followed me. It wouldn't have made any difference if I'd have been drunk, drugged up, wearing a mini skirt or jeans, he chose me. I was lucky because a wonderful man on a motorbike saw what was happening and shouted at the guy and chased him off. I was lucky because I froze with fear and couldn't fight back, couldn't scream.
A woman is vulnerable to rape when a man has decided to rape her.

bumbleymummy · 02/06/2012 21:26

Actually kiss, I've quoted lot's of posts and responded to them.

bumbleymummy · 02/06/2012 21:26

Lots* not sure why there's an apostrophe there...

bumbleymummy · 02/06/2012 21:28

No running, that suggests that I've said that only people who are drunk will ever get raped and I've made it perfectly clear that I'm not saying that at all so someone telling me that I've said 'by avoiding being drunk you can avoid being raped' is wrong.

OhNoMyFanjo · 02/06/2012 21:29

#I believe you

''Where did I say you should blame her for being raped blackout? Giving someone advice about helping to prevent their drink be spiked is not the same as saying 'if you don't do this and you get drugged, it's your fault'.''

I asked you where did I say that?

To everyone who had shared their experiences I BELIEVE YOU
