Will have a look at the unconnected one tonight and see if I can attempt it (seems easier than repairing the other one). The Ex plumbed the other one in from scratch and he's not the sharpest tool...that gives me some hope.

If that's beyond me will see if I can work out the problem with the other loo, and go to B&Q on Saturday.

Thanks for calming me down. I have emailed my friends (including the one who suggested the rip-off plumber). none have even replied - apart from one who said (in response to my 'well, what can i do, I'll have to cancel my party' panic) 'oh that would be a shame'.

Still these are also the same friends who can only help me with shopping - as I dont have a car - for party food etc on the day of the party. Told them not to bother & I'll get it delivered instead.

Unless you live in central London, £400 is more than most plumbers would expect to earn a day & depending on where you are, for a lot of them in a week.
If it is the two valves, I mentioned, they are about £15 each. An hourly rate for a plumber would be approx £40 (unless you live in central London). I would have thought that a good plumber would have the job done in 1 hour, but definitely 2 hours tops - given most of them want to make it worth their while. So that shouldn't be more than £100 all in & I think I am erring on the side of generosity to the plumber.

Sponge it sounds like your ball valve is faulty. It's a fairly simple job to replace. £400 would get you a new bathroom suite.

watch, am v much in sod them frame of mind at present. is just annoying since I do so much for them, one had a party a few years ago just days after I split with my nice Ex, I spent all day helping her, crying as I buttered bread & made sandwiches. I wouldnt have dreamt of not helping, even though I felt like crap.

Post, I'm in the London suburbs - my Ex is in construction, and from him I know that round here day rates are about £150. I had in mind to pay about £150-175 including any parts, but hoped it might be less as friend knows him etc. How wrong I was!

POF that's where I got my indecent proposal job offer

so, my Depp-date went to hotel, hotel, showered, changed. walked to Leicester square (my feet!) walked up purple carpet, waited in the cinema for a bit then herded outside to stand in special 'pen' underneath 'big screen' warner bros people very good, made sure all stars came to see us, have photos etc (except Michelle Pffier, who, i suspect didn't want anyone to see her close-up and un-air-brushed and Helena Bonham Carter, who was first to arrive and did spend loads of time signing autographs etc, just not with us. Met Jonny Lee Miller (squeak!) Tim Burton ( i luff him!) and all the scrawny actresses (backless dresses and bones poking out. impossible shoes.), who were all very obliging. Depp was magnificent he does smell wonderful, he signed and photoed etc. DD was all shy :) He spent ages with the people who had been queing since dawn - one woman springs to mind, a large goth girl who promptly burst into tears when he was signing her autograph, so he gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek ( I would have died at this point..) into the cinema, cast on stage, a few words.. film funny and delightful. Minor quibbles - no free champagne etc and G&Ts in the hotel room cost £14 a pop!

Johnny Depp though. 47 years old. How many un-famous 47 year old men look that good? where are they? not on OKC and POF, thats for sure.

sponge you can easily fix the ever-flushing toilet. easy. the plumbing in on the new one might be a stretch, but I'm sure there will be lots of advice. :)

Watch - I dunno whats happening really. We haven't had any kind of chat about what this is - both just enjoying it I think. I'm not in any hurry to label it. He seems smitten, and I definitely am smitten... we talk non stop through each day and both are excited to be seeing each other again tomorrow, we have date 6 planned also after tomorrow to do the hotel and spa and dinner again... that will do for now.

Thanks, it does just feel like theres no hurry in the slightest. I might get a bit twitchier about what exactly is going on after the 6th date if we still haven't talked about it by then... but then again I might not. It crosses my mind now and then but then I find myself deciding that I still really don't want anything all that serious even though I like him so much. So... que sera sera... we will see.

I had a similar problem with my toilet and it was something to do with a little valve or something, attached or inside the ballcock, it didn't need a new ballcock it was just this little thing . The signs it was broken was water running constantly! Most annoying when trying to sleep. I could hear it from my bedroom by the way, I don't sleep in the bathroom!
