Why men like stockings and suspenders?

Had a chat with DP last night and he cannot explain why men like women in stockings and suspenders. I do not know the answer so I thought that here in mumsnet someone would come and helps us discover why.

He is not sure either but thinks it is sexy but he does not know why.

Anyone out there to help us please?

I always wear stockings and suspenders with a skirt as 1. I have long legs and struggle to find tights which are long enough to stay up without the crotch dropping to mid-thigh and 2. I used to get thrush a lot and find that not wearing tights minimises this.

My ex wore stockings and occassionally suspenders. I think its sexy because it emphasises the shape and length of the legs and i was lucky she had great ones and the top of the stockings' band is a signal indicating the promised land is ahoy. Rrrr.

as a man i can say my dad was heavily into them and he told me my grandad was too....so maybe it is genetic? i am heavily into them as well as tights on a woman,i have seen that some men actually like to wear them,but im not into that, from a very early age like teens i found i was interested in fishnets but his soon morphed into nylons etc. i would say i have a fetish for them and i am definitely what you would typically call a "Leg Man", i find the female leg and feet a specific area i look at first physically with a woman......i like a specific type also( with just a reinforced toe) and only certain mainstream colours.... . im not a pervert by any means ( i am married with 2 sons)and my wife indulges with my passion.although we quite often ....say 20 % of the time dont use them during sex ..... i guess im really lucky in that respect that she likes to wear them. but as to why i like them ?? that is a BIG question that i cant really put my finger on.......i hear the other regular comments about it leads to the best parts etc.....but i can only say they are incredibly sexy and feminine from a male eye,especially the female soles in them and i get a BIG thrill from them just for being that.

I think it's an older generation thing, I'm nit sure but it may be that old porn had women wearing them with other attire. I remember watching Dallas as a child and every time Jr went to visit one of his bits on the side, they would change into lingerie. I was confused then and am now. No man has ever asked me to truss myself up in that shit.

I've never yet met a man who's attracted to stockings & suspenders. I think they're just 'supposed' to like them, presumably? DP couldn't give a shit what I'm wearing, he just wants to take it off. I reckon porn has skewered some people's thinking; Women assume men want the porn star look, and men who are into porn want to re-enact it all with women.

My DP likes vintage clothes and hair etc and these go with that.

Stockings and suspenders have never done anything for me, personally. As someone said above I think it's a generational thing.

Man here - I like them. As to why, I guess for the same reasons I like it when a woman wears a little make up, or nice clothes, or does her hair.

To me they look nice and give off a sexual aura that is appealing.

It gives the impression that the woman is sexually aware and/or confident.

A previous partner wore them frequently, however neither my ex or DW have ever worn them.

@Christoferos Relief! They are a faff to put on, uncomfortable and make me feel like a trussed up turkey. I really don't like them. If I wanted to wear them he wouldn't stop me, but it wouldn't add anything to the occasion for him IYSWIM.
