Phew, just in time!

I'm mouse and I love a few to drink. I love all things cheese and I love MrMouse Grin

Welcome to the Bus. We are a collection of drinkers, non-drinkers, and those who are somewhere in between but we all have the same thing in common, we can't just have 1 drink and then stop.

Come say hi, we don't bite Smile.

Here are the other threads to date, if you have a spare hour or seven to kill. Wink

Me me me for a ticket please Smile it's Monday and I am still feeling positive.

I managed 1/2 a bottle of wine and lots of soft drinks on Saturday and just one and a half galsses of wine yesterday, I feel less fuddled if you know what i mean? Also I weighed myself and have lost 2lb I know it's not much but that is just the less wine. How fab is that!

Morning everyone I hope you all had good weekends and for those that are struggling the day on isindes bus trip sounds just what we all need

Morning Babes

Very quiet here over the weekend, how are we all?

Off to the docs later to find out if it's my heart that's causing these falls. DH has just gone off in a cab with tears in his eyes, softy Smile

So, how was everyone's weekend?

Mouseface · 19/09/2011 09:46

Hi babes, I too am boingy this morning, I too irritate less morning-oriented people (including DH and one of DSs)

Good luck Mouse re docs and Isinde re contract
Welcome soberme and destiny
spiderhaters - I'll sort your spiders for you if you sort out the moths - spend childhood holidays with grandma and grandad in massive cold farmhouse in back of beyond in Shropshire, with BIG moths, never recovered.

I drank a whole bottle of wine both Fri and Sat nights, and that is not what I aspire to on my weekend evenings. Plse remind me to think through strategies and plans next Friday. Actually, am going to a social do which will not be booze-heavy on Friday, so that will help, but DH away on Sat and I will have to think of strategy (posh treats from M and S instead maybe).

BTW legal, I really liked this: " also be prepared to have to spend some time thinking about / addressing the reasons why you are drinking so much - there are bound to be some (and for the record it's OK to be here whatever those reasons are. The great thing about this bus is that we don't have to compete to have the most serious problems / drinking issues etc etc. At least I that's a great thing " Thank you

Good wishes to all of you for good work, exercise, and one-day-at-a-timeing

legalalien · 19/09/2011 11:46

thanks clambering - and good to see that in my usual style I have forgotten to close the brackets- my worst grammatical habit (thank goodness for the grammar check function in word). Grin

welcome on board destiny - you are in good company.

well done to all those with sober / soberish people

good luck to mouse at the doctor and isinde at the canary wharf pitch (not sure I know exactly which day it is...)

noteven hope your weekend went well. If you're around, don't suppose you have any chocolate cake recipes that a novice like me could manage (or does anyone else have one?) DS has decided that I have to make a home made cake for DH's birthday, needs to be plain rather than rich so that DS won't turn his nose up in disgust. The decoration plans are elaborate to say the least - looks like I will have to pop out for a piping set (I think Waitrose at Canary Wharf have them). Nice that DS has such faith in me, I guess. When I was a child, the ultimate cake was considered to be a highly processed ice cream cake.....

Mouseface · 19/09/2011 11:53

Thank you all.

Grin

I will give them a full list of what/why/whens. This needs sorting. xx

Clambering - Moths? Like WW2 bombers? You can hear their wings beating they are so big. We're rural so get them here. They are actually bigger than any other night time insect too! Daddy Long Legs are another one I hate.

YUK!!

M&S do some gorgeous chocolates and deserts, you could treat yourself to a nice dinner and then something gorgeous for after. A nice long soak in the bath, a book to read, and early night. Not wine! Planning is a great idea, plan what you're NOT going to drink!

I'll be in bed earlier whilst DH is away, mainly because I'll be solo with night duty. I will most likely stick Nemo in with me if has has a rough night, snuggles with my boy in a huge bed! Lush.

I cut DD's hair yesterday so she's gone to school with it down, all swishy and layered, look very grown up. Where do the years go?

Lurker with a chocolate cake recipe...

Cream 225g of softened butter or margarine with 225g caster sugar until it's light and fluffy. Beat in four eggs and then fold in 180g self raising flour and 45g cocoa powder. Divide into two tins and bake at 180c for about 25 minutes until cooked through, risen and springy. Allow to cool then sandwich and top with a ganache made of a tin of condensed milk mixed with 250g melted dark or milk chocolate.

Mouseface · 19/09/2011 11:58

Legal - HERE I've used this in the past and it's gorgeous.

Or you could use THIS ONE

Scooter - that sounds LUSH!!

I think you should be our resident lurker for all things chocolate and cakey here on in! Grin

OP posts:
legalalien · 19/09/2011 12:32

brilliant - thanks guys! Do you think I could put white chocolate in the icing and dye it green (don't ask)?

Now this is a moth. Urghh, horrible things.

Zanywany · 19/09/2011 12:32

Hi everyone.

Hope it goes OK for you today Mouse thinking of you

Noteven Hope you had a good weekend with your DD. When will you next have her for a sleepover

Another Spiderhater over here. I have trained my dog to eat them Grin

Bit of an up and down weekend. XP (I suppose technically he is DP) was as grumpy/rude as could be on the phone Saturday afternoon. Get so annoyed with myself for getting upset when he is like this. He has been working non stop recently and so is shattered but thats no excuse to be rude to me. I still went to his house after I had dropped DC's off (party because I couldn't face Saturday night on my own after looking forward to our plans all day) and he apologised and we had a good weekend but it can't keep happening. He sees me tears as a sign of weakness and that I am doing it for effect. Going to suggest we sit down and discuss things next time DC's are with their Dad as I am sick of being spoken to badly just because he is tired. Warning flags are up though

My XH told his girlfriend to apologise to my DD for throwing a conkor at her. Pleased he is backing her up, just a shame he didn't at the time though.

I had quite a bit Saturday night but have been fairly good since.

Scootergrrrl · 19/09/2011 12:43

(climbs aboard the bus offering chocolate cake...)

Another wine every night one here. It's become a bad habit to grab a glass or three of red every night to signal the fact that the DCs have gone to bed and it's finally quiet. I'm off to get my fizzy drinks later and I will not be drinking today.

legalalien It might work better if you use white chocolate for the ganache if you want to dye it green..... Grin

Mouseface · 19/09/2011 12:47

Good for you Scooter and welcome Smile x

Legal - agree with Scooter re the ganache.

Zany - your XH's GF is a cowbag. DH shouldn't have to make her say sorry to your DD> Regardless of the situation, she is the adult (used loosely) here and should know better. Grrrr.

And yes! Get your barriers up higher for a while until you can sit and talk. Be careful xx

OP posts:
dementedma · 19/09/2011 13:24

checking in, hungover, angry, ashamed and with a splitting headache - feel like boiled shite and deservedly so.
HAVE to get on top of this, HAVE to.
For today - yet again - I will be trying not to drink.

Mouseface · 19/09/2011 13:34

Ma - I'm here holding your hand for as long as you need me to be and IsinDe will hold the other, that way you CAN NOT GET A DRINK INTO YOU!! Grin

Seriously though, here for you. You know what you have to do. xx

OP posts:
venusandmars · 19/09/2011 13:41

When I was trying to make something green on top of a cake, I found I easier to use dessicated coconut with food colouring, rather than trying to get the right colour / consistency in any other topping.

This is my favourite easy chocolate cake recipe - been using it since before chocolate was invented 1970!

dementedma · 19/09/2011 13:43

I know what I have to do.

swallowedAfly · 19/09/2011 13:43

hi destiny - i agree with isindie - it will be sucking your resolve and energy - much as it comforts us in our pain it generally is very good at keeping us stuck in the pain too itms. so sorry for your situation.

isindie - that bus trip sounds awesome! you have painted a beautiful picture.

wellies - well done on the cut down! are you aiming for just drinking at weekends?

dementedma - i screwed up yesterday too. more later when i've dealt with the frigging cat who is trying to sneak up on my left over toast.

swallowedAfly · 19/09/2011 13:46

i grew up using that one venus! i want a copy of the old bero cooking book we used to have. it had a gorgeous recipe for 'coffee kisses'.
