Hello, welcome to thread number six!! Smile

I'm Mouse and, thanks to these threads, I quit the booze on August 2nd 2010.

This truly is a fantastic source of support for anyone who wants it! Full of real, honest, everyday people who are all at different stages of quitting the booze, cutting down or being long term sober.

There are no judgmental 'know-it-alls' here, whatever your circumstances, you will be supported all the way.

Come and meet the rest of The Brave Babes........

And, as before, here are the previous five threads for those who would like to see how this all began.

JWN's original thread (the reason we are all here)

mouse - lovely and sunny here. Not exactly hot but perfectly pleasant and I am sure it will be warmer in the afternoon! (Are you arriving at your friends' tomorrow?)

MIFLAW · 27/08/2010 10:44

Hello all.

The scan was v. good, thanks for asking, and it's another girl. luckily I am not really your football crazy/fast cars/huntin' shootin' fishin' type of dad ...

Sadly, the £500m grants programme is the grants we receive (or think we receive) and it's due to get cut savagely by the DCLG anyway - we're not exactly dishing the money out, more clawing it back from the mouths of widows, cripples and orphans ...

RedMoomin · 27/08/2010 10:46

wasindie come and give us a post if you can. Please don't beat yourself up, you must be kind to yourself today (and tomorrow in fact!) It's been lovely having you about so much recently x

MissPerrier are you out there? Just realised we had not heard from you for a while... Hope you are OK. (And the rest of you babes who have drifted away!)

jesuswhatnext · 27/08/2010 10:47

ahh mouse!, turns out cap'in jack is a bit of a player, so, apparently, he is good for a night out, loads of fun etc. but not a long-term prospect - she is now off out with the 4x4 guy - seems he is a double-barrel with a sauna and hot-tub! (where did i go wrong? at her age i was lucky if the lads had the price of a port'n'lemon! Grin)

btw, enjoy your trip oop'north! (i went there once, twas grim! Grin

RedMoomin · 27/08/2010 10:47

MIFLAW that's lovely news! Congratulations to you and the family x

I think others on here would be better placed than me to comment on the grant situation... Sounds horrendous though.

RedMoomin · 27/08/2010 10:48

JWN - glad that your DD is having some fun. That's what it's all about at that age!

Mouseface · 27/08/2010 10:51

Red

Tomorrow afternoon. Hoping for a nice day or half day Sunday as we usually go out for a walk, well the boys do! Crutches are far to tricky in the hills!!!!

MIFLAW

Can I ask, are you talking about tax credits or DLA at all? Both DS and I get the highest rate of DLA. I'm worried as to what will happen if they get cut. Sorry, if I am way off, just ignore me.

[panic emoticon]

I'm glad the scan went well! Another little girl. How old is your first DD?

miflaw! got any names in mind? i like names that are a bit different but that will go anywhere iyswim? i like athena, allegra, peta, that type of thing.

RedMoomin · 27/08/2010 10:57

Those names are posh JWN! Lovely too of course Smile

RedMoomin · 27/08/2010 10:59

mouse - it's lovely at the moment, I hope it stays like that for your weekend!

jesuswhatnext · 27/08/2010 11:01

dd has a posh name, i didnt realise it was though until after she started school - its worked out ok though as she has a 'cut-glass' accent, unlike my london twang! Blush

MIFLAW · 27/08/2010 11:02

JWN channelling me? She is nails compared to me.

I remember (before I had children) Monty, my sort-of sponsor, sharing in meetings "the tears of my children never stopped me drinking." And i absolutely understand that. I know, like I know my own name, that, if I started drinking again, I would step over my child to get to the off-licence. Or I would take her to Wetherspoons with me, the way I now take her to Caffe Nero, so I could be a "responsible parent" and not be "forced" to leave her alone while I bought my drink. There is no doubt in my mind about it.

I know not everyone here is in AA or wants to be but a key phrase that you hear from the people who know is that "it's a selfish programme." You need to get sober for YOU - because you know it will kill you and want to live, for example. Or because you are fed up of waking up in a wet bed. Or to shut up the voices telling you that maybe your loved ones would be better off without you.

MIFLAW · 27/08/2010 11:04

Re names, probably Florence, though the jury is out as to the middle name.

We are a bilingual family, French and English (I originally came onto Mumsnet to use the bilingualism threads), so I will definitely have to pass on "Peta" - it looks and sounds too much like the French for "fart"!

MIFLAW · 27/08/2010 11:05

Grants prog, btw, is that of London Borough of Lambuff.

There - in one day, you know everything about me!

MIFLAW · 27/08/2010 11:07

Mouseface - no, neither of those, know nothing about that, sorry - this is mainly the money that Central Govt gives local authorities to do their work with (with varying degrees of success ...)

RedMoomin · 27/08/2010 11:12

Florence is a beautiful name!

And it's nice to get to 'know' you a bit better MIFLAW.

JWN - I am sure you have a delightful London twang!

Mouseface · 27/08/2010 11:16

MIFALW - thank you for answering. Just a bit jittery about it all as I can't work. DH is self-employed so things get a bit tense sometimes.

BTW - DS was going to be Florence May if he had been a DD!!

All these babies. So many people are expecting or have tiny little babies at the moment! Not good for my ticking clock!!!

JWN

That made me laugh. Of course he is a player. The good looking boys at that age are! Good fun though. Wink

JWN - have you morphed from Diana Dors into Peggy Mitchell all of a sudden?!

MIFLAW · 27/08/2010 11:50

JWN

Thanks - you have really sold the name to me now!

venusandmars · 27/08/2010 12:00

My grandmother was Florence Louise. Both of these have become family names.

jesuswhatnext · 27/08/2010 12:02

tbh moomin, im a bit of a mixture of the two Blush

miflaw, i was teasing about the name, its really very pretty - and it dosnet follow that all florries have whiskers! Grin
