Well, here we go ladies (and MIFLAW)! The new thread to follow on from JWN's 'me and alcohol have ruined my family'. I hope no one minds that I decided to go with 'brave'? I just think that it describes us!

As a quick recap, I am 33 and on day 22 of sobriety (on this occasion!)

Moomin

Hmm, a tad shitty of your DH me thinks.

Can I ask, are you more cross about the money or the fact he's in the pub.

I really don't mean to sound a bitch but I want to understand as much as I can about, well, everything. To booze or not to booze.

Tell me to sod off if I've offended you, which was not my intention. Just not very good with words.

MIFLAW · 29/07/2010 16:44

Moomin

Never forget that we do not have the monopoly on being arseholes ...

algee · 29/07/2010 16:49

Wasindie!
Great to see your name...I'm faffing 'cos I'm trying to do VAT stuff.
Sleep deprivation apart, is it good? Are you enjoying yourself? How id dp doing?

MoominMags · 29/07/2010 16:53

I am pissed off about the money... mainly! No, sometimes I still get pangs if he goes to the pub but today it's about the money!! (I have my own feelings about his drinking and think he has his own issues but I have learned that I have to let it go. I cannot control his drinking - anymore than I could control mine, ha ha! I am not saying it's not hard for me because sometimes I want to kill him!)

You have not pissed me off in the slightest mouse. We all have to try to be honest and if you can't ask us on here who can you ask?? And it was a very relevant question.

wasindie, hiya!!! Great to hear from you, yuck on the sleep deprivation! How's dp recovering??

Hi wasindie, lots been going on here as you will read. Give those lovely babies a big hug from a computer fairy!

Algee, you've just reminded me about the VAT.. I'll do it tomorrow am and get it in before it's due.

algee · 29/07/2010 17:32

blardy nora venus...just taken me above 2 hours (with a bit of mnetting!) including half an hour holding 'cos I couldn't complete my on line registration. Need a flippin' drink now, but will eat pretzels instead!

algee · 29/07/2010 17:34

Actually, no I'm going to treat myself to a posh tonic with lime AND lemon and sit in the garden for a mo!

venusandmars · 29/07/2010 17:41

Algee that tonic and lime is just the drink you need. Go on, treat yourself to a couple of pretzels too.

I have just done something for the very first time. I have cooked a lobster. Bloody over-rated in general but they were on offer in Lidls for £2.

I've probably overcooked them, and bashing the claws with a rolling pin to get the claw meat out probably pulverised that too, but I am feeling ridiculously proud of myself.

catinboots · 29/07/2010 18:08

six o clock.. it's the witching hour!! You are all a real inspiration to me. Mouse - I can't imagine how hard it must be having a partner who drinks heavily. I'm very lucky in that my DH doesn't drink - never has. He doesn't like alcohol!! He does have other vices though lol.

Spent today proepping for job interview. Felt good. Christi - when's yours??

catinboots · 29/07/2010 18:09

prepping even..

algee · 29/07/2010 18:12

God i would be too! Hope you enjoy it!

Just come in for another nothing and tonic...mouse, when I was having 'cutting back' days (ie not red or whiskey) my drink was V&T. Now maybe I'm just kidding myself, but T without the V with citrus and a proper glass just about makes me feel like I'm having a 'proper' drink...just a thought?

Now I'm going to water the garden then pluck up the courage to look at all of these removals quotations that have come in...

algee · 29/07/2010 18:13

...actually sorry think somebody else suggested that yesterday

jesuswhatnext · 29/07/2010 18:38

good evening one and all!!

well, i have spent an excruciating day with my dm - it went just as i predicted, we had lunch - she 'whispered' about the woman opposite who ate with her mouth open - then she SHOUTED at me in wallis that the prices were 'a bloody joke for this frumpy tat'! i think the lady who had just paid for her dress could have walloped her, then, of course, we have to have the conversation about the number of immigrants in the town, apparently, it is like 'calcutta round here', even though most of the immigrants are polish!

oh pour me drink! , mines a nothing and tonic, thanks!

ah VAT - dh is doing this today as well, puts him in a lovley mood

lovley to hear from wasindie!!

Mouseface · 29/07/2010 18:40

No drink in hand...... but that may have something to do with no being able to get to the fridge.

Back door being fitted and the kitchen is a bomb-site.

Keeping busy but have a bottle of champers in the fridge. It will be opened. I will not drink it all or even half (or 2/3rds!). I am having a glass to toast my marriage.

And less vodka.

And more water.

And some grape juice, over ice, with a splash of lemonade.

algee · 29/07/2010 18:45

So glad you had such a lovely time JWN ...your dm sounds like my df, good for the bottom clenching exercises though!

Is this the alkies and 'leaving VAT quarter submissions 'til the last minute' thread??

I'm now part way down my second N&T. Yum. Reading removals qupotes my face like this.... Don't want to tell dh, he'll be back on the 'oh we can do it with a luton van and pushbike

cat so sorry cross posted with you before, and didn't notice! Glad your prep went well.

algee · 29/07/2010 18:46

Ah yes, ahppy anniversay mouse!

venusandmars · 29/07/2010 18:46

JWN, your day sounds fabulous!

Mouse, good to have some plans for what you will drink as an alternative. I used to run gin around the glass then tip it back in the bottle, just to give a wee impression of something. Now I too have a nothing and tonic.

We'll have to be careful though 'cos my nothing in gin and algee's nothing as vodka. We wouldn't want to get our drinks mixed up

jesuswhatnext · 29/07/2010 18:51

algee - i well remember the time we moved with a luton van and pushbike it was all down to dh, i said it was too much yadda yadda he said it would be fine! instead of enjoying our first night in our new home we had a row, stayed in a travelodge, had a row, had soem sleep, had a row, the cat shat in said travelodge room so we had a row, dd asked to go and stay with nana! we had movers last time! (and they did all the packing!)

jesuswhatnext · 29/07/2010 18:55

talking of dh - we have been married 10 years in september - any suggestions on what i might give him? (not rude ones, you lot!)

Mouseface · 29/07/2010 18:56

at venus and her not muddling the drinkage!!!

Thanks for the well wishes all.

JWN - I'm up to page 11 of your OP. Wow, you are doing SO WELL!!!!!

As are so many others. I'm really glad you started the thread. Not the because of the surrounding circumstances but the journey you are sharing with us.

Thank you.

Back later, bath time for DS and clear up for me.

Thai take-away and chocolate covered strawberries later, DD did them whilst I was at physio. Bless her.
