Why, all of a sudden are the children getting to say stuff? Very worrying development.

Why all this Carry on Camping stuff with Usha and Alan - very undignified.

And what the hell is this with making Oliver look like a blithering idiot?

I thought the children talking was a lead up to he unveiling of the ambridge grafitti tagger lots of talk of being bored and nothing to do. What I didnt understand about Oliver was - isnt he the part owner of the hotel ? and if the chef was talking to you like Ian was would you not say "err feck off you're my employee - dont talk to me like that" And was there a special on that night - never heard it so busy in the restaurant

boogeek · 04/03/2010 22:24

Oh goddd and wasn't there something awful last week with Alan saying abstinence makes the heart go fonder? I cringed.

HumphreyCobbler · 04/03/2010 22:25

Alan always makes me cringe.

seeker · 05/03/2010 06:21

I think it's leading up to the big graffiti-reveal too, but that doesn't mean I want to hear the foul brats actually speaking!

And what happened on Tuesday when Jude didn't come to tea? If your DD texted you to say that the car was broken down would you
a) sigh, or
b) get on the phone to ask if they need a pickup or a tow or is Jude in the AA or ...
It was a very strange reaction by David & Ruth.

OrmRenewed · 05/03/2010 16:59

"And what the hell is this with making Oliver look like a blithering idiot"

Waddya mean making him 'look like' a blithering idiot ?

R4 · 05/03/2010 22:41

I missed TA earlier (switched off for the Now Show which I can't stand and forgot to switch back on) and have only just caught up. How long does it normally take them to put up an evening's episode!? Grr.

Anyway, so Jude was born on the day that John Lennon died ... that means that Pip's "twenty eight year old" boyfriend will be thirty in December.

SoMuchToBits · 05/03/2010 22:44

So why does Pip not want her parents to meet Jude (at least that's what I think is happening)? Do you think that Jude is black, and David and Ruth would maybe have reservations? (Only think that as all the people I have ever met called Jude have been black African).

seeker · 05/03/2010 22:53

Never mind the Archers - how can anyone not LOVE The Now Show? Explain yourself! Without spoilers - I;ve got it as a podcast for later!

LittlePushka · 05/03/2010 22:59

i dip in and out of the Archers,...so please can you tell me if it is JUST me or does anyone else wonder why every time David Archer speaks he sounds as if he id lifting weights, or a very heavy sheep onto his back. He's always breathless.

..and is Pips voice really whiney..

...and does Ruth fake accent drive you mad?

I think I am looking for the whole family written out. Otherwise its fab!!

R4 · 05/03/2010 23:13

The Now Show? Nasty, sneery, spiteful, superior ... shall I go on? The only bit that I like is the audience participation at the end.

seeker · 06/03/2010 08:42

Ah. Now I hear witty, sophisticated, intelligent and politically aware. Hmm. not sure what that says about me!

OP posts:
boogeek · 06/03/2010 12:14

Somuchtobits: they have seen him haven't they - wasn't David collecting her from college and saw them kissing, which is how they realised he wasn't another spotty teen? Also, she wanted to bring him to the funeral so it's not that she doesn't want them to meet. Agree the oh well car broken down never mind thing was odd though.
Little Pushka: I love Ruth's accent! Agree re Pip, I feel a near-constant urge to slap her whenever she speaks.

SoMuchToBits · 06/03/2010 12:17

Ah, I hadn't realised they had seen him (don't listen that often these days ), well that blows that theory out of the water. Maybe he has very extreme political views, or something, and Pip thinks he wouldn't get on with her parents.

HumphreyCobbler · 06/03/2010 12:25

If David doesn't stop shouting at Ruth about Jude I will be turning off, it is driving me mad. He sounds as if he is holding Ruth entirely responsible for the whole thing.

Actually I wish Pip would bugger off and move in with him, we wouldn't have to listen to her being so bloody irritating.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 06/03/2010 12:40

Am surprised that when David and Ruth were talking about the bleurgh-inducing Jude yesterday they didn't mention the screamingly obvious fact that he is just like dear old Uncle Kenton. (calls David 'Dave', full of charm but feckless, moving from one interest to next, etc). Surely that would sort Pip out?

And I agree with all those who want to slap her. I have two dds a year either side of her in age, and they do not speak to me or dh the way Pip does to D and R.(Nor would it be tolerated.)

They both wish to slap her too .

seeker · 06/03/2010 12:52

I thought Jude was OK actually - better manners than anyone else in the scene!

I was disappointed - I was hoping for a Leslie Phillips-type moustache-twirling character.

OP posts:
boogeek · 06/03/2010 12:54

Ooh have they met him at last? Am an omnibus listener so will look forward to that tomorrow

LittlePushka · 06/03/2010 18:42

LOL at the leslie phillips comparison!!! Boogeek,...ruths accent only drives me mad because i am native north east and its just SO wrong...

would we miss that particular family should they relocate to Bumbridge?

campion · 07/03/2010 18:44

LittlePushka - Pip ( aka Fizz) sounds rather brummie to me.

Must be due to her Mum's fake geordie, Dad's RP ( ish) and the locals' RP or mummerset.

Poor kid's having an identity crisis.

She does need a slap, though.

CantSupinate · 07/03/2010 18:47

Is Ruth's accent that fake? I've heard Felicity Finch present lots of programmes and she always sounds exactly the same to me as on TA!

Pictures of the real Felicity Finch.

EggyAllenPoe · 07/03/2010 19:02

ah yes, dear Ruth 'Aww Naww' Archer...

I think they generally make most of the kids sound unbelievably brattish, and yes, in a way that makes my hands itch with a wish to get a-slapping.

Although most of last year it was Alice Aldridge who made me unusually in favour of corporal punishment, i think they just like having someone in that role.

EggyAllenPoe · 07/03/2010 19:05

oh yeah, and Pip on her environmentalist bent was just unbearable listening. It made me cring and clench my fists at the same time.

R4 · 07/03/2010 19:25

Aaargh! Another speaking child tonight.

I am afraid. Very afraid. Helen is looking up 'websites' for pre-conception build-a-baby instructions. She's not going to sign up to MN is she?

abride · 07/03/2010 19:28

Usha and Alan starting to make out in the tent---YUCK!!!!!!

Helen's baby. Of all the people in AMbridge she is least suited to going it alone. TOny is right.
