Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to marry Pip, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

So now we know who bonked George on the head. Will the stunning revelation Hmm lead to anything interesting or credible happening? Answers on a postcard, please!

Will Alice and Rex become an item? Will Amber come to her senses? Has Adam's constant languor and fatigue now removed his ability to speak on air?

Over to you!

okay, Ambridge reshuffle, can we celebrate the 75th anniversary with a few more potential Brookfield claimants.

Ruth to marry Stella, probably a dead end.
David to marry Esme who promptly produces an heir.
Meriel visits her dad, marries Ruairi (not a blood relation) and has twins.
Ben gets back with Beth and Bess and fathers triplets (Bella, Betty and Bert).
Lizzie goes ballistic at the thought of not getting 'her' share and enlists Lily.
Dan and his private army invade and occupy the Stables, and produce a mysterious trunk full of documents.

Carol Tregorran, backed up by Anna, refuses to move out of the cottage she has spent a lot of money keeping well maintained and furnished, un-noticed by a younger generation oblivious to anything not from Ikea.

OrphanBlankly · 21/02/2026 08:09

Dan and his private army

Bring it on!

Vacancy klaxon - a manager for Josh’s egg business.

Candidates?

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 21/02/2026 08:24

Ok, happy with all those proposals @DeanElderberrybut can we add a ‘finally kill off Jill’. It feels like a vital admin task that’s been overlooked for too long.

Bruisername · 21/02/2026 08:28

The archers have a real problem at the moment with far too many elderly characters

if they had got rid earlier they would perhaps have stood a chance of the younger characters being more mature etc. when you think what Brian was up to at Alice’s’ age!

DeanElderberry · 21/02/2026 08:58

Finally killing off Jill is long overdue. She was always one of my favourite characters, but it would have been kinder all round.

Darker · 21/02/2026 09:21

Jill will eventually become an Ambridge wraith, unaccounted for, waiting to be released from their scriptless wanderings, along with Lewis, Cathy and Jamie, Johnny….

Will Toby have died as well then? Some kind of joint industrial accident?

Forgot about him!

Brainworm · 21/02/2026 10:37

muddyford · 21/02/2026 05:17

Anyone else struggling there to distinguish between Alice and Pip? Must be my ancient ears. Ruth's ghastly speech would have been more appropriate for a wedding.

I struggle to differentiate between Pip and Alice. To my ears their voices are very similar

WombatCowgirl · 21/02/2026 10:56

@Bruisername what kind of mass accident could take place that would painlessly remove the lingering oldies collectively?

LightningMode · 21/02/2026 11:07

He's easily forgotten 😆

a bus trip to see the lights at Blackpool is the obvious one but they’ve missed that opportunity for a year

I approve of your eager tone @LightningMode 👍

I don't think they will dead Jill until her actress dies. Maybe even then they won't get round to it for a few years as they'll have a busy schedule introducing new characters with ludicrous accents.
Have we ever had a centenarian Archer?

OrphanBlankly · 21/02/2026 11:43

I can see it would make sense to the creative team to delay Jill’s death until this 75th anniversary year. It’ll be an enormous event - probably at least three standalone programmes, a completely revised website, a month of compulsory podcasts, a street festival, every TA listener being visited at home by at least one of the cast, a campaign to get Barwick Green to Number 1 in the charts, a speech from the King … (Or not …)

They can't do that just now! When she dies her will goes into effect, and Shula and Elizabeth inherit Glebe Cottage.

Is it possible in England to bequeath to others things which do not belong to you? Because if it is, I think I might leave my brother's house to my daughter. I'm sure he won't mind....

Peggy, very briefly.

I think they ought to give Jill the respect such a long-running character deserves and let her go off in an off-stage burst of glory. Baking one last lemon drizzle cake sets Brookfield on fire? Like a WI version of a Viking funeral.

TheUsualChaos · 21/02/2026 15:02

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/02/2026 14:37

Ah yes, just shows what a damp squib her 100th was as I completely forgot!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/02/2026 15:12

It was shameful. It should have been a huge village event!

Poppins2016 · 21/02/2026 15:44

Zach is more like a caricature than a real character.

I can't believe I heard Pip telling Josh that Carol has the tenancy for Glebe cottage. There is absolutely no way that Josh wouldn't have already known that. Such lazy scriptwriting. They could easily have orchestrated a conversation between a couple of other characters at the party (or elsewhere) if they needed the audience to be reminded.

It will be an eulogy from Queen Camilla.

OrphanBlankly · 21/02/2026 16:12

You’re so right!

FatRosie · 21/02/2026 16:22

I usually am. Smile
It will be to show just how in touch with ordinary people she is.
It will be on the front page of the Radio Times, and will be featured in the Times, Telegraph, the Daily Liar and the Daily Emxpress.
QC will be hailed as having single-handedly saved the monarchy.
Barwick Green will be renamed Barwick Queen.

Somewhere they might mention that Jill Archery/Gill Archie has passed away. They will have missed the typos in the name because they rely on AI or spellcheckers.
