Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to marry Pip, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

So now we know who bonked George on the head. Will the stunning revelation Hmm lead to anything interesting or credible happening? Answers on a postcard, please!

Will Alice and Rex become an item? Will Amber come to her senses? Has Adam's constant languor and fatigue now removed his ability to speak on air?

Over to you!

Is there anyone who isn’t too nice for Alice? I reckon maybe if Kim Jong Un decided to give up dictatoring to take on a farm near Ambridge then he may just work

😂 😂 😂 😂

MissMarplesNiece · 18/02/2026 18:01

How old is Rex? I've forgotten.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/02/2026 18:02

Brefugee
(my advice to anyone at any job ever: if someone offers you a qualification - take it. Take the certificate and add it to your CV)

I'd agree about the stockman thing except that the farm Ruairi hopes to be working on/managing doesn't actually have any stock apart from the deer, does it?

I somehow doubt that if he doesn't get Daddy's farm, Ruairi will be particularly interested in a career in agriculture.

Rex was born on 11th July,1987.

Maybe he's got his eye on the Meadow Farm tenancy.

The list of potential tenants:
Esme
Josh
George
Akram
Kim Rong Un
Tilly Button
Ruairi
Anyone who ticks a diversity checkbox
Rex
Hannah
Mianed

Of those, the one who will get it will be Akram.

Esme and Josh will live at Hollitree in a house that will magically appear where the flats used to be.

Definitely Kim - it’s the only thing that makes sense

Oh dear. Stella's brother is going to get a surprise when he discovers that there is no such thing as a pre nup in UK law.

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/02/2026 17:01

Alice is destined to get back together with Chris. I like Chris but it is his destiny.

I fear you are right 🙁

muddyford · 18/02/2026 19:28

Once again Zach sounded like Paul, then segued into his boring estuary accent. Don't the scriptwriters understand that inheritance tax is due on the estate, not individual bits of it?

Yeah 'e was a bi' all tha', wasn' 'e?

SPQRomanus · 18/02/2026 19:30

Good god, I would run a mile if I had someone like Stella's brother as a financial advisor. How can someone apparently advise people on what to do with their money when they don't even know when IHT will be payable and by whom.

I can only imagine he's not independent and is at a junior level in some organisation, only allowed to flog certain products. His suit will be very shiny, his trousers legs far too tight and short and his shoes very pointy. Lots of hair product, a very very sculpted beard and hairline and a cheap flashy watch.

He sounds nothing like Stella in accent, age or attitude. Most odd. Why couldn't they make him more intelligent, more educated and professional. Or would that go against the scriptwriters' dumbing down desires. Even when a professional person moves to the village eg doctor Malik, she has to be married to a plumber, which is very unusual. They couldn't possibly have the norm of a doctor being married to another professional person.

FatRosie · 18/02/2026 19:40

his shoes very pointy Yes! The suit will be pale grey and shiny and he probably wears a waistcoat not a jacket. The shoes will be slip-on ones that point upwards at the toes.

Why on earth would he be interested in the Meadow Farm tenancy?

FatRosie · 18/02/2026 19:45

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime , because he would tick a diversity checkbox and the SW move in mysterious ways.

Madcats · 18/02/2026 19:55

How old would the “Gawd bless ya Mary Poppins” bloke be? He should probably be skiing at this time of year (or at least whinging about cost of said holiday/school fees etc).

I’m looking forward to the party, but I have probably over-imagined.

Right now, I think it would be fun for Toby to buy The Lodge (Peggie’s old place, in case I got that wrong) and move in a pregnant fiancee. To avoid confusing/garbled accents she could be from a winery he visited.

Will we ever hear about Miranda trying to buy Home Farm again (which I’d assumed would be a “chequebook job”, rather than chain-dependent)?

echt · 18/02/2026 19:56

"Welf" management.
Will it be a "feme" wedding?
Fark! And I have a regional accent myself.
What is his purpose? Is he going to be like Cloive, popping up to stir the shit every so often?

Very Brine to congratulate Ruairi for pulling a fast one on La Snell. Always as well to remember what piece of work Brine is.

LightningMode · 18/02/2026 19:13

Oh dear. Stella's brother is going to get a surprise when he discovers that there is no such thing as a pre nup in UK law.

But do the scriptwriters know that? They have their alternate reality where, eg, a plumber decides to become a low-paid farmworker, and a farmer's son who raises chickens doesn't understand farm finance.

Oh, sorry. I assumed from the context and your post that we were talking about Ruairi, because his was the only name before your "Maybe he's got his eye on the Meadow Farm tenancy."

Words cannot express how bored I am with Akram!

FatRosie · 18/02/2026 20:49

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime , I was referring to Ruairi. It wouldn't be even on his radar but the SW seem to do what they like.

Akram is a joke.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 18/02/2026 20:59

I already hate Stella's brother. Every single word he utters sounds insincere, if not downright sarcastic. Like he's mocking everyone inside his own head.

I 'm confused by the way Josh's "career progression" is presented here - the way I remember it, he started the egg business approximately at primary school age, and started -and ballsed up - the farm machinery thing about 5 minutes ago 🤔

muddyford · 18/02/2026 21:09

The marriage of Alan and Usha wouldn't happen now, two professionals getting together. Nor would Caroline and Oliver, Lilian and Justin and I think Brian and Miranda are thus doomed.

TheUsualChaos · 18/02/2026 22:15

This week of episodes seems designed to wind the listeners up so far!

Firstly, does age mean nothing in Ambridge? Pushing 40 Rex asking all the yoof out on a night out. Give me strength!

Secondly, Ruairi is so incredibly arrogant and stuck up. I can't stand the idea that he will get Home farm. He's playing Brian just like he plays everyone else. Learnt from the master I suppose.

And thirdly. Zach. Did we not suffer enough with Rochelle?! What fresh hell is this?

WagnersFourthSymphony · 18/02/2026 22:37

Zak is unbelievable. Why does he sound like a wide boy if he isn't? Does he turn out to have a heart of gold? I pray we hear very little more from him, just a sly filching from Ruairi's inheritance.
Alice, can't you hear Rex is not remotely on the same wavelength? Anyway,
what do you see in him? There is nothing there. Alice, are you still alive?
(TBH, I'm not convinced Rex isn't a bloodless bot.)
Good to hear that at least Brian is true to character, heh heh.

SPQRomanus · 18/02/2026 22:38

Why oh why can't we have a normal straightforward professional middle class new character? Why don't the SW want us to have someone that, probably, represents most of the people on this board as well as most of the listeners? It's ridiculous that the two latest men given a voice( Zach and amber's father) have been portrayed as wide boy types with fake estuary/ London accents.

Well, there was Lawrence (sp?) at the golf club...
