Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to marry Pip, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

So now we know who bonked George on the head. Will the stunning revelation Hmm lead to anything interesting or credible happening? Answers on a postcard, please!

Will Alice and Rex become an item? Will Amber come to her senses? Has Adam's constant languor and fatigue now removed his ability to speak on air?

Over to you!

Maybe they decided Lynda was so OTT and they were so crass in their presentation of Eid that they should just have it mentioned in passing

TheUsualChaos · 23/02/2026 12:59

I doubt Akram will go home early as he's so grateful to work for the Archers 🙄 and it wouldn't occur to Tom to suggest it or pay him for the extra time.

In all my 30 plus years of being involved with various riding schools, I have never witnessed anyone arriving by taxi. Ever.

GenZstare · 23/02/2026 13:53

'I know it's a bit selfish but' said before their first date?! 😬
Rex wants to watch Wall-E? 😬
Kids films can be fun but this isn't attractive imho.

OrphanBlankly · 23/02/2026 13:56

Why not though? I live in a city and haven’t run a car for ages. I’ve been thinking of taking up riding, and it’s highly likely I’d have to get there by taxi.

TheUsualChaos · 23/02/2026 14:06

Depends how far away your nearest riding school is I suppose. I live quite rurally and I have never come across anyone getting to riding lessons by taxi or any other public transport. It's just not feasible. Plus the price of riding lessons plus a taxi there and back would be eye watering! I just felt it was an unrealistic excuse for Rex to be at the stables again, they could have bumped into each other in a more believable scenario. Just my opinion.

snowibunni · 23/02/2026 14:08

Who the heck sells a vehicle in monthly instalments (unless you are a commercial garage) . It sounds like a great idea, but basically Chelsea can't afford the horse box.

Johnny's overseas trip seems quite permanent, to the point he's been erased from everyone's memories.

And each of Adam and Kenton was abroad, working, for well over ten years.

Weird - and not attractive! If I was Alice I’d be worried about a future curling up in front of episodes of Rosie and Jim.

I had been thinking that Rex would be a good match for Alice - he’s steady, knows a bit about farming, works hard and I reckon he’d be great with Martha.

TheUsualChaos · 23/02/2026 14:24

Perhaps we're starting to see why the lovely, reliable Rex is still single!

snowibunni · 23/02/2026 19:08

Ooooh Helen mentioned a house for sale , false alarm though

snowibunni · 23/02/2026 19:33

Next thread needs to be run Finlay run I think.

At least we have evidence that Helen is at least looking .

OrphanBlankly · 23/02/2026 19:48

Helen made me giggle.

Are we to assume Dale is all suit, no sizzle?

anappleadaykeeps · 23/02/2026 21:47

I was at the hairdressers earlier today, thinking about Chelsea’s horse box / Mobile Hairdresser venture. What is she going to do for electricity and water (including hot running water) - both of which seem fairly essential for a colouring, hair cut & blowdry?

Bruisername · 23/02/2026 21:53

I don’t understand the idea - don’t mobile hairdressers just come to your house? I’ve only known mobile dog groomers who bring their own premises so to speak. And they used my electricity but had their own water

WombatCowgirl · 23/02/2026 22:02

It does seem to be a regularly used plot device: it's Ed and Emma's new home, but it's mobile! It's Ian's new pizzeria, but it's mobile, it's Susan's new shop etc etc

This evening I suddenly realised Helen sounds very like Claire in the community, both her intonation and accent (and what she was saying about needing to check emails and have a cup of coffee while the dairymaids were struggling was also very Claire!).

AnotherHormonalWoman · 23/02/2026 22:48

I'm so annoyed that this mystery horsebox seller has agreed to payment in installments - that's the most ridiculous thing I've heard of in a while. And as others have already said, keeping a horsebox at a stableyard will be subject to a charge - something like £20 a week.

Taxis to riding stables are also a ridiculous idea in Ambridge. I used to take the train to one, but that was a very urban area. Ambridge is rural - everybody will drive, and taxis would double or triple the cost of having a riding lesson.

Me too! She sounded exactly like her, so funny.

Anyone else laugh at Helen having to talk to the agricultural advisor? Maybe she could ask the scriptwriters to do the same.

She said she wanted to use it for things like weddings and parties, so she'd pitch up in the horse box, suitably decorated and do the wedding parties hair - so no dyeing etc. so not actually using it for mobile hairdressing per se.

Wouldn’t you just do that inside the venue? Has she not seen the ‘getting ready’ photos that seem so popular these days?

Exactly. I said it before that she should spend that £5k on a little hatchback car and she'd be able to do mobile hairdressing in people's own houses and do the bridal party's hairstyles at GG/LL. She hasn't taken my advice :(

Bruisername · 23/02/2026 23:33

How is she going to move the horse box? I’m going to have to go and google to see if this is actually a thing

TheUsualChaos · 23/02/2026 23:34

I thought the plan was to use it as a mobile hairdresser unit so she would have her regular income but to also branch out to do bookings for weddings and events as another revenue stream.

The more I think about it, the less it makes sense. A friend of mine used to do mobiles and a lot of her customers were for dyes and perms which take ages and half the reason they liked mobile was because they could stay in the comfort of their own home...not sit in some van on their driveway 😆 But I'm guessing Chelsea will have a different sort of customer base...most of the examples I've found online are mobile barber shops and they set up at local markets etc.

Bruisername · 23/02/2026 23:36

Yes my Google threw up very little but tended to be barbers (makes sense as don’t need as much room?)

or it’s a converted horse box but in a fixed location

where dot the sw get their ideas from because they are always really daft

TheUsualChaos · 23/02/2026 23:46

I'm sure Chelsea also said something about how it will double up as her transport as she can't afford to get a normal car as well as the horse box. Because a knackered out 3.5t is a really economical run around! Having said that, there is a mum of a girl in DS class who regularly does the school run in hers and it's not in a much better state than the one Chelsea is buying!

Bruisername · 23/02/2026 23:58

Do you need a special license to drive a vehicle that size? Or is it a teeny tiny one? None of it makes sense!!!
