Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think 19 is an ideal age to have a baby with a convict, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Emma spoke sense to George and Amber tonight. Goodness only knows where this storyline is going. I can't see George being Father of the Year. Oh dear.

Over to you!

That was utter drivel. Not happy at all

Utter drivel or the SW playing with us. I think it the cast of Near Death on the Nile Bridle Path did it, and the aftershave is called Spartacus. All the suspects wore it that evening.

EBearhug · 13/02/2026 12:59

I don’t know if Ruarhi is strong enough to tackle George. I think of him as being quite weedy- more reliant on his (dubious) charm and wit than physical strength.

A drunk, unexpecting George rather than a sober, expectant George, ready to fight.

Darker · 13/02/2026 13:53

Ruari might well be a strapping young man. He’s working on the farm. He was brought up with rural activities. I always imagine Brian as 6’2” and strong in his youth…

lottiegarbanzo · 13/02/2026 14:04

I see Ruaridh as looking a bit like a young Ben Wishaw, slightly built, about 5’10-11, dark but more floppy-haired.

Brian is 6’ medium build, brown hair. Siobhan was maybe 5’6, medium build but quite curvy, hourglass size 14, dark brown hair - but hers was wavy/curly, Ruairidh’s is straighter. So R is slighter than either of them. He’s an inch or two taller than Adam.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/02/2026 14:15

I am quite certain it wasn't Brian, but I also have a very strong hunch that whoever he thinks actually did it (probably Ruairi) didn't do it either. The only person in the village I can imagine doing this who I wouldn't mind losing from the cast is Mick, so I want it to be him. He was furious with George, and understandably so. He's physically strong and I have a feeling would have no compunction about letting a known villain with a criminal record stand trial and possibly go to prison for this. If Brian were to be charged (exceedingly unlikely) it might be a different matter, but Brian is very canny. I surmise he has an absolutely cast iron alibi for the few minutes in question, which George would quickly have found out if he had started asking around. Brian has fobbed him off to stop him looking at anyone else.

@lottiegarbanzo , Siobhan had red hair.

lottiegarbanzo · 13/02/2026 14:20

Listening again I’m not even sure Brian knows who he’s protecting. He just sounds like he wants the whole thing over and done with, so everyone can calm down and move on. Thats in Alice’s interests.

@lottiegarbanzo , Siobhan had red hair.

Did she really? Not in my mind 😄

FatRosie · 13/02/2026 14:26

@lottiegarbanzo , Brian mentioned it more than once. 😆

lottiegarbanzo · 13/02/2026 14:42

Was a little while ago 😆

lottiegarbanzo · 13/02/2026 14:44

Ruairi definitely not red-haired though, that’s Adam’s thing and would have been mentioned. The Irish connection has always made R dark-haired to me.

FatRosie · 13/02/2026 14:49

Ruairi has his mother's hair and it has been mentioned.

Gonners · 13/02/2026 14:58

Well, I suppose she doesn't need it any more.

the SW aren't competent enough to play with us in an original and/or entertaining way, I'm afraid.

So much out of character drivel is driving me away i fear.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/02/2026 15:13

I'm listening again to the omnibus that spans New Year's Eve (sucker for punishment) and as far as I can make out just about anybody could have bonked him on the head. Fallon thought Harrison had done it and wiped the CCTV footage. That seems to have been ruled out. Other than that, has anybody got a decent alibi? Not that I really care, tbh ...

I agree. It's definitely not Brian. He thinks he is protecting someone but that someone is also innocent.
I still think Keira

Gonners · 13/02/2026 15:27

I'd really like to think that George did it himself, but he'd have missed.

TheUsualChaos · 13/02/2026 15:38

I've decided I have no idea and I'm a bit fed up of the guessing game now but it's been a very long week and I'm getting a bit grumpy 😆

Brefugee · 13/02/2026 15:46

i simply do not care. I don't care enough about any of them to be at all impressed by all the ridiculous red herring stuff.

Hoping it is soon going to be over because it is really getting very very tedious

His and Joy's story about where they'd been was a bit iffy too. I only listened to the first half of this episode and gave up in disgust.

This, in big flashing neon lights.

The range of accents annoys me but at the same time we need to be able to distinguish characters instantly by their voices. I can understand why thus sometimes feels like a stretch.

Yes, I accept that people who have never been further than the bypass need to have different accents so that we can tell them apart on radio.
But recently the same characters are speaking in several different accents in the same episode.

Fallon, George and Will are the current worst offenders.

Choccyp1g · 13/02/2026 16:24

Also, Amber and Esme, who change accent (and character in the case of Amber) completely from one episode to the next.

FatRosie · 13/02/2026 14:18

@lottiegarbanzo , Siobhan had red hair.

Not according to her picture on the cover of the Radio Times, which is reproduced in Charles Collngwood's memoir Brian and I.

Wouldn't Collingwood have noticed if the character he plays went on about Siobhan's red hair (which I never heard him do as far as I can remember)? I tend to notice of people are mentioned as red-headed; Adam is, Jolene is, but I don't recall it being said of either Ruairi or Siobhán.

FatRosie · 13/02/2026 18:00

Did you mean Brian and Me?
