Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think 19 is an ideal age to have a baby with a convict, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Emma spoke sense to George and Amber tonight. Goodness only knows where this storyline is going. I can't see George being Father of the Year. Oh dear.

Over to you!

Lack of research very evident tonight. There's no gravy on a real Burns Night supper. Haggis, neeps and tatties. That's all that's required. ( We did have kale with ours, admittedly.)

No whisky cream sauce?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/01/2026 00:13

No. Not needed. I've heard of that, though. Neil definitely said the portion he'd saved for George had none of the gravy. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

But it's Ambridge, not Edinburgh. It's likely it won't be entirely authentic. I can live with that.

Nos4r2 · 26/01/2026 05:42

My Scottish friend said he had tinned spaghetti with his haggis. I did sing Donald Where's your trousers to him in a terrible Scottish accent which he laughed at because he was surprised I knew it.
Joy again, she must work for cheaper than the rest of the actors. Not a week goes by now without her turning in up somewhere she is like a human Swiss army knife. Can be used for anything.

Brefugee · 26/01/2026 09:31

i don't get the "no gravy with haggis" stuff. Whenever i've been in Scotland all my mates used to get "haggis, chips and gravy". When i was posted at Catterick the locals even had the Ghurkas eating it. All the fish shops sold it "haggis, chips and peas in a tray with gravy"

I loathe haggis and i hate gravy on my chips (am not prepared to had back my Yorkshire Lass ID card tho) so i don't really care. But i would require some kind of sauce on haggis. (mostly to smother the taste)

That was infuriating. AS IF ANYONE HONESTLY THOUGHT JAZZER WAS PLAYING THE BAGPIPES. Sorry. Needed to shout that. We have a bagpipe band (i know! in deepest Europe) in our tiny village. And we hear them practicing once a week in the village hall, and the neighbour but one practices at home too. Awful noise. Everyone would have known if Jazzer was practicing (and also, yes, Bagpipes are really expensive. Nobody puts them in a shed)

muddyford · 26/01/2026 16:59

We usually have gravy with haggis. I also make a sort of shepherd's pie with onions, haggis and gravy as the base and neeps and tatties as the top.

EBearhug · 26/01/2026 17:51

(and also, yes, Bagpipes are really expensive. Nobody puts them in a shed)

I can totally believe Tracey would.

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 26/01/2026 19:54

Can anyone fill in what happened to Clarrie working at the dairy? When did she leave? Why? What was Adam working there for and where has he now gone?

And what’s the deal with this artwork? How is it connected to Peggy? Did she leave the money for it in her will or something? Where is it going?

Ambridge · 26/01/2026 20:01

I fully expected the 'artwork' to be 6” high.

But Jazzer wouldn't.

I thought it was going to be like the Spinal Tap henge. A measurement mix up between Feet and centimetres.

muddyford · 26/01/2026 20:31

That was a pretty boring episode. Forced slight humour over the unexpectedly micro artwork. Oh how I laughed.

Bummmmblebee · 26/01/2026 20:32

Sidebeforeself · 24/01/2026 16:10

Meant to add … I’d be interested in a storyline where David becomes infatuated with Esme and makes a fool of himself

He already sounds it tbh.

Somebody is welcome to correct me, but the dairy was supposed to be on troubled times after the incomprehensible sewage-gate sludge-fest (where no insurance funds for business interruption or compensation from the water company were forthcoming).

Pat and Helen interviewed Clarrie and Susan after Clarrie had a bad case of arthritis(?) so was given the heave-ho.

Pat and Clarrie are besties again, after bonding over turkey plucking, I believe.

Gonners · 26/01/2026 21:48

I think David sounds more paternal than infatuated, as though Esme is the daughter he would like to have had, rather than the ghastly know-all Pipsqueak.

Autumnyears · 26/01/2026 21:49

Archenders. After 50 years should I give it up.

Darker · 26/01/2026 22:02

How does Justin manage to be so incompetent and yet such a successful businessman??

Gonners · 26/01/2026 22:39

I think Justin must have either have inherited wealth, or got a massive divorce settlement from Miranda.

Absolutely. I thought this too!

OnlyFrench · 26/01/2026 23:14

Akram is the new Joy, appearing everywhere to sprinkle wisdom with his magic wand 🫣

BeatriceBatchelor · 27/01/2026 03:12

I thought Pa Malik wanted to milk the cows not make ice cream. And get his hands dirty planting, picking and packing vegetables in bucolic bliss.

Nos4r2 · 27/01/2026 05:38

A meal to heal. What a load of crap. Why is Susan listening to all this codswallop?
Dosnt Akram never row with his Mrs?, because he is so Sen ( the spiritual one).
Im sure not all Asian people are like this.
He reminds me of a yogi or something, so calming. Dosnt he ever lose his rag, he is like the male version of Joy always pops up even before he got this silly job at Home Farm.

JoelenesParrot · 27/01/2026 08:42

I have developed a new talent and can zone out entirely when Akram appears and then resume listening when he has stopped delivering his (trite and cliched) pearls of wisdom. He brings nothing to the show and I don’t believe Susan would indulge him for 10 seconds.

For some reason the Bull seems busier than it has been for years. It feels like my social life has picked up and I am constantly having a night out in a busy country pub.

TheUsualChaos · 27/01/2026 10:30

Just caught up with new thread, thank you @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g.

What can I say? Listening to Akram waffling on to Susan when it should be Susan and Clarrie putting the worlds to rights. A new low.

And I don't think working in the dairy is exactly what he had in mind from working on a farm. Such utter nonsense.
