Spoilers thread for The Archers on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds. All Archers listeners are welcome here, whether you post on our main Archers thread or not. There's just one rule: please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers thread.

We usually add the BBC teasers and cast lists for forthcoming episodes as they become available, plus the Radio Times and Daily Mail previews when possible. Feel free to add anything else you come across, e.g. cast news, scriptwriter tweets!

The 45-minute interview-a-thon made me wonder if the pate I’d just eaten was off and I was hallucinating. It actually made me quite cross as (not unlike the arrest/prosecution of Helen) it painted the police to be utterly lacking in empathy or humanity and instead bullying and coercing confessions and compliance out of the innocent - obviously we don’t know who’s innocent at this stage but it must be most of them, statistically speaking.

I’m really not sure what they were trying to achieve with it.

Did the continuity announcer really pronounce George dead, or was that just his assumption?

DeanElderberry · 02/01/2026 14:32

I watch lots of old cop shows (mostly American) on DVD and I know that there are rules, and that 'Inspector' broke all of them, which just made it boring because it was obviously a fake set-up.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/01/2026 15:44

I do like the idea of Lower Loxley being taken over by daleks, though.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/01/2026 15:44

I do like the idea of Lower Loxley being taken over by daleks, though.

That might be too much plodding realism after recent months.

Lalgarh · 02/01/2026 16:10

Jazzer hesitating so obviously to search near the area where George was eventually found, and Neil, when he called the ambulance, being told one was already on its way seems a clear indicator that Jazzer is letting on more than he knows if not complicity

Gonners · 02/01/2026 17:14

@Lalgarh ... a clear indicator that Jazzer is letting on more than he knows ...

I very much like the idea of it being that way around!

Lalgarh · 02/01/2026 17:27

Gah! Mangled typing 🙃

Fairyvocals · 02/01/2026 19:31

The interviews thing filled me with utter rage. Completely idiotic.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/01/2026 20:57

I think we got it. People are not perfect. But that does not mean that they are not allowed to know about manifest imperfection in others, nor that they are not allowed to dislike those who wrong them.

JanFebAndOnwards · 02/01/2026 21:52

Have just posted my (low) opinion of yesterday’s shenanigans, episode-wise, on main thread.

They’re going to need to devote a whole edition of Feedback to this.

Am trying to work out what new listeners will / would have made of it all.

(Yes I know what the editors will tell us - but what will the reality be?)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/01/2026 16:46

After starting 2026 with a shocking bang, Ambridge must now deal with the repercussions. Many of the villagers are just trying to work out what happened.
The Grundys are struggling more than most, with home truths, concerning behaviour and tension crackling around the family. Alice (Hollie Chapman) is finding it hard to come to terms with her role, while at the Bull, attempts to move on are put on hold when the police come knocking.

TV Times 3-9 January 2026 (two different previews, with a fair bit of overlap)

Tony offers the benefit of his own tragic experience to a friend in need.
Ed's keen to support Will as his brother's behaviour causes concern.
Helen has her reservations about son Henry's pals.
Emma makes a decision that's set to have lasting consequences.
A bored Akram attempts to help out at Bridge Farm.
And Jazzer is unwilling to help out with Burns Night ... but what's really going on?
As the Ambridge residents reel from the shocking events of the New Year, it becomes clear that everyone has been affected ...
At The Bull, the staff try to move on by making plans for an alternative Burns Night celebration - but not everyone is in the mood to paper over the cracks.
Elsewhere, Joy has an impossible task and suspicions are raised when the police arrive.

Thu 22nd One resident receives some life changing information, and Harrison attempts to work through a problem

Are they going to have a specially extended episode for that? Because Harrison's not the quickest of thinkers.

DeanElderberry · 03/01/2026 16:57

So lots of people don't know what is going on, Akram is bored, the police arrive and Alice receives a surprising request (her fingerprints? please?).

And apparently no more utterances from George.

Oooh, that's cruel!

But it made me laugh aloud.

Wonder if she’s chucked keira out …..

This Women’s Hour discussion is much better than last night’s episode!

i’m gonna listen to womens hour discussion

GoodQueenWenceslaus · 03/01/2026 23:12

Perhaps George is going to have a relapse during the episodes they're keeping under wraps?

JanFebAndOnwards · 04/01/2026 00:45

Sounds to me like the police do actually call everyone in for questioning - this time, for real…..

NewYearNewNameWhoKnew · 04/01/2026 15:19

Could George be recalled to prison from hospital and therefore be muted?

Or unexpectedly took a turn for the worse and deceased - that seems too much to hope for.

Gonners · 04/01/2026 18:38

@Lalgarh "Radio 4’s everyday story of country folk celebrated its birthday by asking who whacked George Grundy with a wine bottle. But what really keeps us listening?"

I can't access the article but the answer to the question, as far as I'm concerned, is to know what's going on so I can participate here and on Mustardland. Chatting about TA is far more entertaining than listening to the tosh, and has been since long before the days of the BBC Archers board.

HewasH2O · 04/01/2026 19:04

Waiting for Jolene's shocking discovery. They've run out of bottles of chardonnay over NY?

KnittedFerret · 04/01/2026 19:08

He's alive.

TottersBlatantlyTowardsTheBaileys · 04/01/2026 19:29

And grumpy.
