Unfortunately, Ambridge is in some kind of weird internet black hole as far as internet shopping is concerned. Nobody ever has a supermarket delivery or any other sort of delivery. ...
Nobody ever buys lots of stuff online with the intention of sending most of it back.
That isn't entirely so because the "Alice has a serious drink problem" story started in September 2020 and on Tuesday 22nd September "Alice is in floods of tears as she talks to a counsellor about her pregnancy. She admits she wasn’t prepared for it so can’t sort out her feelings. The counsellor asks whether she and Chris have discussed it. Alice is reluctant to tell her she hasn’t told him yet. She breaks off as a delivery has arrived. She’ll call back." We supposed from the remarks she made to herself and the sfx that the delivery was alcohol.
And someone, but I can't remember who (possibly Chelsea or someone to Chelsea; Lily?) boasted once about getting a dress off the internet, wearing it for a special occasion and then sending it back. I remember a bit of mild tut-tutting on a board I was on at the time. (Could it have been Susan not being sure what colour to get and ordering three? And Tracy telling her to send them all back?)
But I agree, until the dreary and improbable George As Influencer guff, the internet was largely unused apart from such delights as footballing pigs.
