Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread. Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-7-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4887688-archers-thread-153-total-absolute-rubbish-but-we-keep-on-listening-hoping-for-better-things-its-the-hope-that-kills-you-discuss-the-archers-here?latest=1 The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for around a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

She did tell Henry and he dealt with it in a very mature way I seem to recall

I find him a very odd boy - I’m expecting a total breakdown when he’s older as at the moment his maturity over his feelings seems unnatural!!!

Madcats · 04/05/2024 09:16

The implausible storylines of late would be greatly improved if Alice were to injure Bartleby, necessitating a humane dispatch.

Or vice-versa.

Bruisername · 04/05/2024 09:32

A drunken Alice turns up to ask bartleby her future and he thinks ‘ffs, not another stupid human coming to harass me’ and kicks her in the head?

DoggerFisher · 04/05/2024 16:21

Re the 'life changing news at the hospital', is it too much to hope that Ruth is involved in an accident which leaves her mute?

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 04/05/2024 16:52

Probably, @DoggerFisher. Probably …

(But she seems to be mute for the next couple of weeks anyway!)

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 04/05/2024 17:11

Right. Have read spoilers again - and wonder if the Radio Times writer might actually have meant ‘Good Samaritan’ in the legal sense.

Maybe Joy or Mick or George discovering Alice in her mangled car, and moving her - resulting in paralysis that might not otherwise have come about …

Scaring myself!

Gonners · 04/05/2024 19:36

I didn't know there was a legal sense to Good Samaritan in the UK, though I was aware of it in North America, but it seems there's something in England & Wales called the Social Action, Responsibility and Heroism Act 2015 (approximately 300 words long) which has never actually been tested in court.

I'm not sure it would work too well as a defence if you were pissed as a newt and consequently did more harm than good, so let's hope for Alice's sake that she doesn't attempt to resuscitate anyone. Of perhaps, for everyone else's sake (apart from the resuscitee - a word I have just made up) we should hope that she does?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/05/2024 20:58

Another spoiler trickles in. Not sure it adds anything to those we already had.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine May 5th-10th
It's an emotional rollercoaster in Ambridge this week as a terrible mistake has disastrous consequences, heartbreak looms for Chris, and Harrison decides to take a shocking action.

Bruisername · 04/05/2024 21:11

So you think anyone in the village shop would serve Alice?

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 04/05/2024 21:18

I think over lockdown she was having wine delivered? Now she’d probably order as part of a grocery delivery, rather than from a wine merchant.

No need ever to use the village shop.

Gonners · 04/05/2024 21:20

... and Harrison decides to take a shocking action.

Don't tell us he's going to do some actual policing! Or will he shoot Champion, The Wonder Pony? I hope the heartbreak for Chris means that it's (preferably) Alice or (more likely) Martha that gets deaded, because if they write out the only actually interesting character, Jakob, then I'm done with them.

RegimentalSturgeon · 04/05/2024 21:39

It would be beyond fabulous were Alice to squish Martha while driving drunk.

The radio trailer clearly had the sound of the shop door bell

WombatCowgirl · 05/05/2024 00:08

Yes and a bottle clinking I think to make it clear she'll be drink driving. I hope it's not Brian, but that would explain Kate at the hospital and Ruiaridh in the cast.

TherapistInATabard · 05/05/2024 05:52

Gonners · 04/05/2024 08:40

It was Giddy Jack's inheritance. I can't remember if she told either of them - being Helen, she's quite likely to have told Henry but not Jack!

D’oh, of course!

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 05/05/2024 07:15

I will struggle to believe any plot that relies on an acknowledged and known alcoholic of Alice’s intelligence boldly striding into the village shop to buy drink. After all the trouble she’s been part of there. It just wouldn’t make sense when unlimited amounts of alcohol could be delivered to her door with no witnesses.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/05/2024 08:27

Unfortunately, Ambridge is in some kind of weird internet black hole as far as internet shopping is concerned. Nobody ever has a supermarket delivery or any other sort of delivery. There should be a bank of lockers beside the Post Office for Amazon and other parcels - or will that be on the site for the charging station? Nobody ever knocks on the door to say 'I took this in for you earlier'. Nobody ever buys lots of stuff online with the intention of sending most of it back. They still shop the old-fashioned way by going to a little boutique they know in Felpersham or popping into Underwoods in Borchester. (I hope we're not going to learn at some point that it closed down years ago and nobody in Ambridge thought to mention it. The Aldridges and Peggy would have talked about it endlessly and the Bridge Farm Archers would have been hard hit by the loss of the food hall which took quite a lot of their products.)

Can someone who’s heard the trailer explain to me what happens in it? Thank you!

BreadAhoy · 05/05/2024 09:18

I think k Harrison’s shocking action will be resigning from the police. Maybe because he is disillusioned, thinking that Alice’s relapse is partly down to the furore over Harry’s past and the police disciplinary process.

later spoiler for Fallon reaching the end of her tether is about the tea room, maybe Natasha and Chelsea making all sorts of crap business decisions (policy to hurry customers off tables etc) and she quits her job too.

they both end up running the pub.

I've only heard it once. It was very brief. Alice talking to herself, sound of a shop door opening (that ding dong sound you get in some small shops) and glugging, I think. Possibly some indication that she was driving? Can't remember. I was hoping to find it online but haven't yet. There is apparently a transcript on a private Facebook group, but I'm not on Facebook and not in the group.

She talks about one mistake leading to another and then the car door slams

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 05/05/2024 10:04

Could it be a different shop? If she was driving she’d be better off going to a different village or a petrol station shop, or into Borchester.

Reminds me that I’ve never heard mention of a petrol station in / beside the village - which seems odd. Forget the planned charging station - an old school pit stop with a grimy little Spar / Tesco Express seems far more likely than the score of fancy eateries that employ all the unlanded young in Ambridge.
