Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread. Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-7-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4887688-archers-thread-153-total-absolute-rubbish-but-we-keep-on-listening-hoping-for-better-things-its-the-hope-that-kills-you-discuss-the-archers-here?latest=1 The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for around a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Maybe he’s going to meet Miranda and discover she was one of his clients

I’ve never heard a uni finish so early! And that’s it until October?

No … The uni is still operating! It’s only that our undergrad has no more teaching and has submitted all their work. They don’t need to be there while tutors are marking.

But I daresay students on other courses still have work to do.

We were surprised too.

I'm at the stage when I don't know whether some things happened on TA or whether I just wished they'd happened, but did Alice do the AA thing of apologising to people she'd harmed, and if so did Ruairi tell her to get stuffed?

Does anyone know which of the London colleges/schools teaches Gigolo Studies? In any event, he could just be back for a few days, ostensibly to see Brian but really for the plot purpose of catching Alice out.

Gigolo Studies Grin

Compulsory modules:
Marketing and Networking
Financial Management and Tax Avoidance
Escort and Sex Work: the Law
Sexual Health and Contraception
Mindfulness: how to train yourself to remain emotionally detached
Personal Grooming and Fashion
Conversational Techniques, Current Affairs and Useful General Knowledge to help with chatting to the super rich

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g , which of the London universities run the course? Asking for a friend, obviously.Wink

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/04/2024 12:45

I believe Lothario College is a bit higher up the league tables these days than Fancyman, Whopping. Of course, any aspiring gigolo should be looking at opportunities for internships and also whether graduates go on to good graduate level posts, not necessarily in the gigolo industry. The transferable skills acquired have proved a particularly good fit for a career in politics, for example.

That was my recollection, though I think he and Alice had a reconciliation when Jennifer died.

What is Ruari up to these days? What happened to him after the Julianne year(s)? Is he still at Uni?

WhoppingBigBackside · 26/04/2024 13:01

What are the ratings for Regents', Goldmine and the London School of Escortnomics?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/04/2024 13:09

Not sure, but how marvellous that students who want to stand on their own two feet, with occasional periods of moving to the horizontal, have so much choice!

Are internships guaranteed and what are the starting salaries for graduates?
Didn't anyone comment on Ruairi's changes in fortune? At least Brine and Jennydarling got to enjoy a wonderful weekend at the Royal Crescent.

She did. She also told him, when he came home for time with his mother, that it was so wonderful that he had forgiven her, and when he told her point-blank that he hadn't, said nastily that in that case he was lying to Jennifer, and threatened to make a stink about it. So he told her to get stuffed.

At a later date she decided to ru(i)n his life for him and engineered his estrangement from Julianne. Since this is the only engineering she's done since she took her degree, we probably ought not to find it as disgusting as I did.

Tbf he had fallen for her and it was only going to end in heartbreak for him

bit of a weird story. They would never have done it with the sexes reversed.

bit of a weird story. They would never have done it with the sexes reversed.

The disgusting thing was that Alice thought for a solitary instant that she had any right to interfere further in the life of the brother she'd so comprehensively estranged from the mother and family whom, until she attacked him in a seriously vile way, he'd thought loved and accepted him. She kicked his legs out from under him, drove him away from home, and then thought that she somehow had the right to tell him what to do about anything at all? Absolutely horrible. That the editorial team thought this was a good thing, possibly even thought it showed Alice in a good light, makes me feel slightly sick.

Bruisername · 26/04/2024 14:38

Yes agree she didn’t come out of it at all well

DeanElderberry · 26/04/2024 18:29

In vino veritas , Alice was a mean drunk, no reason to assume she's less mean when not drinking. By a long way the most unpleasant Aldridge sprog.

Gonners · 26/04/2024 18:47

Alice's problem with Ruairi seemed to be that she didn't like being superseded as the "baby" of the family. Ruairi's best revenge would be a permanent chilly politeness. Unfortunately, she does have something to hold over him, having turned up in London unannounced. But using it might backfire, as I don't see Brine being bothered!

DeanElderberry · 26/04/2024 19:38

Anyway, I hope we'll have a permanent goodbye to Alice and that Ruairi tells someone, probably not Brian, how nice it is that he feels able to come back to Ambridge more often now.

Bruisername · 26/04/2024 19:49

Did Ruari ever tell anyone what she said to him?

DeanElderberry · 26/04/2024 19:51

I don't think so - Alice probably undermined his trust in all his immediate family. Maybe he could talk to Freddie who also has a malicious sister.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/04/2024 19:52

I don't think he did, but then he didn't have to: Jennifer was there, and eventually slapped her face to shut her up.

Or did you mean when she was telling him how nice it was that he had forgiven her and he was saying that no, he hadn't?

Bruisername · 26/04/2024 19:56

I never heard the scene - only him saying he hadn’t forgiven her. Didn’t realise Jenny was there. How horrible for her. Alice really did put her through it

Gonners · 26/04/2024 20:27

I remember the scene with Jenny. Can anyone remember whether or not Jenny-Darling told Brian?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/04/2024 21:02

She did sort of: we didn't hear her doing it but we heard about it. "Jennifer has not told him exactly what Alice said last night, but he knows she was deeply hurt, and he suspects that what Alice said to Ruairi is what distressed Jennifer most." and "Jennifer is feeling dreadful about slapping Alice, but she just wanted her to stop saying those awful things about Ruairi; Brian sympathises." Alice herself also did, and claimed she was going to "fix it", which Brian simply didn't believe. Jennifer also told Shula, after Ruairi had fled to Ireland. And Ruairi told Ben about it shortly after it happened.

Bruisername · 26/04/2024 21:17

Thanks Asking - a mine of information!!

I suppose given the circumstances some sort of sibling issue was always likely but it’s always been such a well blended family

also agree that drink doesn’t change your personality

the aldridges are my favourite family

TherapistInATabard · 28/04/2024 08:48

I’ve surprised myself at being quite excited by the forthcoming drama! Very intriguing spoilers.
