The spoiler thread runs for around a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Joy has a cat already, Ena Sharples, one of Hilda's unexpected litter (she had it two-and-a-half years after moving to live with Peggy, which is truly unlikely). Ena was described by one of the vets as "even worse than Hilda". I don't think the two would get along happily; I think Ena would defend her territory to the death.

I have a mother and two daughters. I can confirm that the mother can’t abide her daughters.

Bore You got it! And how we will laugh

Gasp Hope the Gaspmother is doing OK still and that the storm isn't too bad where she is. Flowers

Aw, how kind, @WhoppingBigBackside! She's not doing too badly, thanks. I'm off up there again in a couple of weeks. Not made this journey in February before so we'll see if the poor old ferry makes it back from her annual overhaul by then. Last year she went off in early January supposedly for about 3 weeks and wasn't back till the end of April.

PS She was OK in the storm.

Tucked away on page 29, The Mail says,

The Bull is at the heart of things as it reveals the results of The Longest Drinker contest, then faces an emergency. Chelsea's fashion show is also chaos, whole Vince makes a surprise offer.

Most of that was Friday???

WhoppingBigBackside · 27/01/2024 12:17

That's good to hear. It sounds like she's doing well, but it still must be quite different from previous winters.

I'm trying to think of who haven't we heard from on TA for a while, and am coming up with Freddie and Josh.
Lynda has been fairly quiet and we've not heard much from Brookfield or The World's First Lesbian.

What we'll get is probably more Grey Gables, more about the travelling Texels, more The Bull's longest drinker, and the Re-fashion show.

X-posted with @Wilma55

Cast members with names like Markie tend to be either ancient (Ã¥ la Sykesy) or disreputable friends of Eddie's. So my money's on Markie being one of those.

I just wanted to let people know there is another Academic Archers conference, it's in London this time and you can go for one day or both. Here is the link: www.academicarchers.net/2024-conference

WhoppingBigBackside · 29/01/2024 12:53

Thanks @MollyButton . What happens at the conference? What would I learn from it?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/01/2024 12:58

The programme is all there on the link. It's a full day on Saturday and a half-day on Sunday. Priced so that people can attend either day or both. Catering included. I don't think I could justify at the moment, but will be interested to hear reports afterwards from those who go.

Norris - the indefatigable sleuths of Mustardland say this is Harrison's boss, Inspector Norris, last heard a few years back. The actor has played one of the few sympathetic people in the TV soap Doctors for a long, long time, but now that's being axed she may be hoping Norris becomes a regular character!

I was thinking more 'what would I get out of it?' as in would I go there, sit down, listen to some people talking very seriously, or is it a bit more interactive, sociable, friendly, fun? Would I leave feeling re-energised and inspired?

I can't afford it or justify the cost, although it's a relatively short journey there. The schedule isn't telling me to go, but last year's did.

Thanks for the spoilers, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/01/2024 13:37

Thanks Gasp0de.
So Paul receives shocking news. Could it be that his parents are finally calling an end to their marriage? Because that would, of course, be totally unexpected.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g , I wonder if I went, would I recognise any MNers without them telling me who they are. Smile
I see they're talking bollocks on the main thread.

I've always had fun. There are definitely less serious moments and some hilarious talks (although the most moving was a Psychologist telling how the Archers, twice helped her family cope with grief).
The seating will be "cafe" style as there will be a lot of crafting (knitting, crochet, sewing and spinning mainly) going on. On the Saturday Sunny Ormonde and Jane James will also record their podcast and have promised some special guests. And then there will be a "Ferret Show"

WhoppingBigBackside · 29/01/2024 16:04

Grin Ferret show sounds fun

JanglyBeads · 29/01/2024 16:31

Crikey it's not cheap is it?! How many places are there?
Titles sound glorious though, I must save up to go one year!

WhoppingBigBackside · 29/01/2024 23:16

Could Markie be Fallon's real father?

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 29/01/2024 23:28

Come over to the dark side, @WhoppingBigBackside …

WhoppingBigBackside · 29/01/2024 23:31

@TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore , it's too scary. Ah, right, see what you mean.

ZadocPDederick · 31/01/2024 09:13

Doesn't sound like last night's crisis is going to be resolved quickly.

Mischance · 31/01/2024 09:29

Interesting - I am wondering how they might deal with this. I used to work with Gypsies and Travellers (I was picture editor and project leader for the Travellers' Times) and the BBC is somewhat laying itself open to accusations of stereotyping. I await developments!

Gonners · 31/01/2024 09:42

I didn't hear anything to suggest they were anything more than a bunch of yobs with fighting dogs, but we shall see ...

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 31/01/2024 10:33

Well, thankfully we know he lives, as he’s still in the cast list. And I don’t think they’d put anything as tasteless as ‘Kenton has had enough’ if it were a question of switching off life support. (Hope I’m wrong.)

So I’m seeing ‘had enough’ as an opening for Kenton (and maybe Jolene) to retire to Australia / New Zealand - wherever his daughter is. They’ve had a long run at The Bull, without ever being interesting.

Fallon would get The Bull, enabling Harrison to put in half a day as wildlife police and the rest of the week as Pub Sage - while she gets an entire established business in which to flex her catering / up-cycling / music maven muscles.

Emma slides into managing the Terrible Tearoom - thus retaining the Carter / Grundy connection at Bridge Farm as richer Susan and poorer Clarrie step into respectively early and very late retirement.

Job done!
