Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread. Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-7-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4887688-archers-thread-153-total-absolute-rubbish-but-we-keep-on-listening-hoping-for-better-things-its-the-hope-that-kills-you-discuss-the-archers-here?latest=1 The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for around a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

And one character makes a shocking return, causing chaos in their midst.

It Has To Be Debbie.

<Prays>

Unless Rob faked his own death. 😉

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/12/2023 14:57

Given the huge cast and Editor acting as director in a couple of weeks, is it possible Peggy is finally about to join the Great Majority?

Please let it be Tiger!

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 02/12/2023 15:35

That could be fun, @Gonners - but I really think it’s time for a new generation to take hold of some Ambridge land. And Debbie’s so … connected. The drama …

(I know it won’t happen. Sad)

FizzingAda · 02/12/2023 17:58

Matt? Or Hazel? Maybe Matt has bought GG…….Please!

MollyButton · 03/12/2023 21:17

Could be Charlie Thomas given the Adam and Ian hints

Gonners · 03/12/2023 21:57

Spare us Hazel, please. Worst Radio Actress Ever.

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 03/12/2023 22:27

Indeed. Hazel was always too one dimensional to make an interesting or entertaining character. I’d be very fed up if it’s her.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/12/2023 22:33

Well, this is a bit out there, but I'm still wondering if Peggy is going to die at the end of this week. The only returning character is 'Graham', who as Asking has astutely pointed out, appears to be Graham Ryder. Could he be about to kill Peggy? Run her over, maybe, as he speeds away from the auction?

OP posts:
TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 03/12/2023 22:55

Hmm … I guess Peggy’s demise would only make an immediate difference if she’s left someone a significant amount of dosh. (Was there much left over after setting up the Ambridge Preservation Trust?) Otherwise she can cause just as much disruption by selling the Lodge and de-homing Kate.

Unless - as a last hurrah, she puts in a successful bid for the Grange Farm land? Not sure who she’d want it for, but …

Certainly Charlie’s return would be awkward for Ian, and Adam. But that wouldn’t be bringing troublesome memories to David.

Thank you for your queue work, @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime!

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/12/2023 23:26

Ooh, could it be PLATEMETER SAM returning?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/12/2023 08:40

Eurgh!

The flapjack was £3.25

WhoppingBigBackside · 04/12/2023 16:17

The flapjack was £3.25

Doesn't this belong in the main thread with the discussion about the price of the flapjack (which I thought quite reasonable for a farm shop)?

WhoppingBigBackside · 04/12/2023 20:00

I gave up on the main thread a while ago.
I'd imagine you'd get a largish, freshly made delicious one at the tea room. The spoilers seem to make a bit of sense now we heard Shula.
Am I not welcome here either?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/12/2023 20:52

Not that in the least, just that I thought you had meant to post there! It's a very easy mistake to make.

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 05/12/2023 09:42

So what’s going on - has Judy Bennett had second thoughts on retirement? Presumably, based on last night, Shula is the character ‘making a shocking return’ and ‘causing chaos’? Confused

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/12/2023 11:36

Add "Shula Hebden Lloyd: Judy Bennett" to this week's cast list...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/12/2023 11:44

My hunch is that she agreed to record a couple of scenes, possibly over the phone, or on some occasion when she accompanied her real life husband to one of his recordings. I know some people loathe Shula but I always enjoyed hearing her. She was often intensely irritating but I enjoyed that in a way I haven't enjoyed being irritated by (say) Pip.

OP posts:
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/12/2023 11:51

For me the reason not to dread Shula's appearances was that she has a pleasant voice, unlike Ruth or Pip.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/12/2023 12:21

Yes, good point!

OP posts:
WhoppingBigBackside · 05/12/2023 12:38

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime , you're a better person than I am. I'd have ignored the post. Let's just say I have reservations about posting there.

I welcomed hearing Shula's voice and other than the out-of-character fling with Richard Locke and the bizarre splitting with nice Alistair to become a minister, I have admired her. She's always well-acted, which is probably why so many dislike the character (cf. Helen).

I've always liked Ruth, and other than her 'soothing voice' like her voice. I've defended the 'fake geordie' comment many times over the years (it's a fake northumbrian accent). I did rather resent her for getting together with David, as, of course, he should have picked me.

Don't get me started on Pip. I loved the ghastly teenage Pip, but the current one seems to have no redeeming features.

We might get a bit more of Shula, but it will be short term. Brian would be a natural for Gagriculture.

Agreed. I I mentioned on the other thread that he would be wonderful arrayed in cravat and tasselled loafers, perched on a barstool and sipping a glass of whisky, giving us the full roguish Brine, like a posh English Dave Allen.
