Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread (hence the zipped mouth on the emoji!). Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4632741-archers-thread-139-whos-the-daddy-no-ceremonial-required-to-join-us-discuss-the-archers-here The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for well over a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Jennifer was 22 when she had Adam, so maybe there was an earlier pregnancy or something.
I had a sneaky peek at the Episodes coming soon, and it looks like we might hear Debbie before long. Something to do with Roger Travers-Macy perhaps?

Thank you for the heads up about Debbie, that's cheered me up immensely! TG returns at last, hallelujah! Even the discovery that the loathsome George Grundy will once more be polluting the airwaves now seems tolerable.

19/3 Adam and Debbie have lots to catch up on, and Justin keeps one ear to the ground.
20/3 Is Brookfield coming under attack? Clarrie and Susan are swotting up.
21/3 Brian has some explaining to do, and the young vet and local bobby get chatting.
22/3 Has Debbie made a terrible mistake? George puts in a bid for space.
23/3 Justin is feeling patriotic, and Jim is getting ready to settle in.
24/3 Debbie has a decision to make, and Chelsea has some advice for a misguided friend.

Ooh I said only yesterday on the main thread that Brian may go off to Hungary!

I hope it's only for a while and he'll be coming back.

MuddlerInLaw · 13/03/2023 19:23

Debbie back?

That is news! Hurrah! (I presume?)

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/03/2023 19:56

Ooh! I was worried that they'd recasted Debbie or that it would be a reported converstion. Thanks Gasp.
Is your hand mending?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/03/2023 20:14

Thanks for asking, Whopping. Bit of a saga. Three weeks tomorrow I fell over and broke little finger. A week ago at check up finger found not to be healing straight, next day screw inserted to hold the bits together. Back into a huge cast and a sling, sigh. Tomorrow cast is due to come off. Not sure what timeline is after that but it should at least be stable and straight. fingers crossed, not literally! It's not painful, just really inconvenient.

Oh dear! That’s a tiresome amount of to-ing and fro-ing, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g. Glad it’s not painful, at least. Will you beep at airports now or has technology overcome that?

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/03/2023 20:29

@MuddlerInLaw has summed up what I thought.
Hope it is straightforward from now on.

Gonners · 13/03/2023 20:38

So, in my fevered imagination, this is how the housing arrangements proceed:

1 - Brine goes to Hungary, never to return. Having discovered he has EU citizenship via his maternal grandparents (who were refugees from, let's say, what is now Lithuania) he spends his final years tootling around Europe, having fun but wishing Jenny was there <sob>. He spends all his money.

2 - Denise returns, having split from her ghastly lycra-clad husband. Within the week she has moved in with Alistair, with Jim's blessing. Jim decides to give the lovebirds space and moves into wherever Brian lived.

3 - It turns out that they actually need two vet nurses, so Paul takes the third room chez Josh. They don't actually have to pay rent, because Shula has vanished without trace (a mystery which is never resolved).

4 - Peggy leaves her entire estate, including the house, to a refuge for cats sadly disillusioned by their slaves. Jakob, who is no fool, immediately changes the locks, and Kate ends up in a yurt.

5 - Lower Loxley is struck by an Act of God and it turns out that Elizabeth forgot to renew the insurance.

Who have I forgotten?

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/03/2023 10:44

I think that Brian will sell Home Farm, or at least announce that he's considering to Adam.

Gonners · 14/03/2023 12:42

He's more likely to discuss that with Debbie in the first instance.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/03/2023 14:06

And she is in the cast. Yes.

Gonners · 15/03/2023 17:22

The general view on the non-spoiler thread seems to be that Brian will go off for a while and then come back. Does anyone else think (as I do) that now Shula-aka-Mrs-Charles-Collingwood has retired, CC will retire too? He'll be 80 in May.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/03/2023 17:58

It would make sense, but I do hope not. Sad

I hope not too. He gets the good lines.

Gonners · 15/03/2023 18:47

I very much hope not, but I'm preparing myself. He's the only remaining character of any interest, and the best actor by far, so his departure would probably be the end of my listening.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/03/2023 20:20

I hope not too.
I thought I read somewhere he has no intention of retiring yet, but not sure where I saw it

WhoppingBigBackside · 15/03/2023 20:36

It's too soon for Brian to meet someone, but IRL I suspect there would be some women trying to make themselves indispensable.
As a recent divorcee, Shula would be a candidate, but she is far too nice, and she's not there.

Gonners · 15/03/2023 20:55

@WhoppingBigBackside - IRL I suspect there would be some women trying to make themselves indispensable.

Oh very definitely - poor man, I would probably be among them, if only because he's unique in Ambridge for having a sense of humour. Which is why it's a good idea to have him escape the enclave.

He said it himself in an interview, but that was before his wife Judy Bennett retired or was written out, whichever it was that led to Shula going north. They neither of them intended to retire, at that point.

GoldenCupidon · 16/03/2023 12:01

I would hate it if Brian left, his acting is an absolute masterclass at all times. I 100% believe in him.

But if he has to leave I would really enjoy the hilarity of Shula popping back, them bonding, and then him moving north to be with his new woman (i.e. RL wife).

WhoppingBigBackside · 16/03/2023 19:37

Listening to TA this evening there was a knock on the door. I ignored it. A few moments later, there were a few more raps on the door. Reluctantly went to answer it, just in case it was important and it was a man I didn't know asking if a car parked nearby was mine and if I wanted to sell it.

I asked him why he ruined my evening by knocking on my door to ask if I wanted to sell a car not parked outside my house.

I'm fuming. AIBU?

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/03/2023 19:43

YANBU

WhoppingBigBackside · 16/03/2023 19:48

It is my car, and I always park it where there are cameras.
I've had a few people ask, thinking I'm going to sell it for £200 or less, when I know it is worth much, much more.

Knocking on my door just pissed me off, but spoiling The Archers is unforgiveable!

Gonners · 16/03/2023 19:55

YANBU and he was very lucky you didn't have your shotgun to hand!

Stuff like that (and MrGon's penchant for interrupting absolutely anything I'm concentrating on) is why I listen online.
