Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread (hence the zipped mouth on the emoji!). Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4632741-archers-thread-139-whos-the-daddy-no-ceremonial-required-to-join-us-discuss-the-archers-here The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for well over a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Not a spoiler, @Throwaway1066 - he died a while ago now and we mourned him over a couple of past threads. Sad

It’s a puzzle how they’ll fit in his on air demise - Peggy’s voice won’t be returning, Jill … ? Brian must be keen to retire. And Jenny has sped in first.

Also it will be a shame to have Mungo arrive in Ambridge without his grandfather there. There’s only so many times Lynda can say “Robert said …” Though I can’t imagine them replacing him with another actor. Who knows what will happen.

Throwaway1066 · 23/01/2023 17:02

I loved Robert, he was so lovely after Grey Gables went boom.

TottersBlankly · 24/01/2023 06:27

Tonight could be - epic.

So rare to be breathlessly waiting for an episode.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/01/2023 17:02

10/2 Ian worries about how Adam is coping, and Paul has a memorable encounter.

Is "Paul" Denise's son, who works for Jakob and Alistair as a vet nurse?

NewBootsAndRanty · 24/01/2023 17:15

Yep @Gonners .

I wonder if his path is going to cross with Julianne?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/01/2023 17:30

I do hope so!

OP posts:
Gonners · 24/01/2023 17:31

Thanks @NewBootsAndRanty. The first Paul I thought of was Eddie's mate Fat Paul, who used to drink with him at the other pub.

ILoveShula · 24/01/2023 20:14

Thanks Gasp. I hope so too.

TopOfTheCliff · 25/01/2023 11:24

I think the unexpected guest at Ambridge Hall 2/02 will be Julianne come to claim Ruairi. Then 3/02 she gives him an ultimatum as he isn’t accepting bookings due to bereavement. Boom! I hope so anyway

TottersBlankly · 25/01/2023 13:17

Yes, I’m hoping the guest will be Julianne!

Though I’m wondering if the final warning might involve Chelsea and Lower Loxley, as there’s mention of Freddie in the following week?

Gonners · 25/01/2023 14:11

@TottersBlankly Yes, I’m hoping the guest will be Julianne!

Indeed - resplendent in full mourning with a vast black hat (veiled), a little black dress from Chanel and Ferragamo shoes.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/01/2023 21:14

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 29th January – 3rd February 2023
After recent upheavals, Adam and Tony are keen to get on with the new forest garden. Tom, too, is excited about a new opportunity, but will Natasha share his enthusiasm?
With Lilian feeling isolated, Justin has an idea to put a smile on her face, but it could result in the opposite.
Harrison has to intervene when a resident ends up somewhere they shouldn't. Meanwhile, Alice is trying and failing to get through to Ruairi and find out more about him, but Julianne is simply losing patience as he struggles to get his act together. And Freddie wants to show he has what it takes to be management.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 29th January – 3rd February 2023
Lower Loxley Hall and Lilian have, over the decades, had a great deal of renovation work done, keeping up a fine facade.
Freddie is full of hope and ambitions for keeping Lower Loxley up to the Mark, but Lilian seems to have lost all interest in maintenance and is letting herself go.
Justin comes up with an idea to get a works schedule started – but is he just adding to Lilian’s problems?
Adam and Tony get their own improvements under way as they make for their edible forest garden, giving Adam a distraction from recent upheavals.
Meanwhile there’s trouble over at Willow Cottage and Ruairi, defensive about his family problems, is losing his grip on his unusual work experience arrangement.

This all sounds as if it might be less shouty and ranty than last week's offerings, thank goodness, but it has the same writer so one can't be sure.

Gonners · 28/01/2023 21:50

Ruairi, defensive about his family problems, is losing his grip on his unusual work experience arrangement.

Oh, words I never thought I'd write here - Well done, the Daily Mail!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/01/2023 09:48

Thanks, Asking. Been away? Apols if I missed that before. I don't mind the shouting and ranting. I felt the Aldridges were mostly acting in character, and they are, by a country mile, the most interesting family in Ambridge.

OP posts:
TottersBlankly · 29/01/2023 10:57

Thanks, @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime .

No Ben next week, to comfort Ruairi? Sad

If Julianne does turn up in Ambridge that will be excruciating.

JanglyBeads · 29/01/2023 12:29

It's more likely that Juliane will suddenly require his services elsewhere, isn't it?

ILoveShula · 29/01/2023 12:55

Thanks Asking. It's been quite a week in Ambridge.
I think it'll be Ruairi getting a final warning

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/02/2023 16:28

And here we go again; I can't say the coming week looks any less bleak than the past two have been....

07 Feb Susan may be a bit quick to judge, and Kate feels she is making a difference.

Radio Times 5th – 10th February 2023
Kate is feeling energised - despite all that's gone on in recent weeks, she's determined to put her best foot forward, but might she step on someone else's toes? And not all the Aldridges feel so optimistic. Adam must work out how to give Xander some difficult news, although a creative project and a trip to the River Am might solve both their problems.
Freddie remains determined to take on more responsibility at Lower Loxley, but not everyone's finding the fun in leadership.
At the shop, Susan is keeping a beady eye on her new recruit and not liking everything she sees - but she might regret being so quick to judge.....

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 5th – 10th February 2023
Buffeted by the ill winds sent by the dark forces that control Ambridge, the Aldridge family struggles to keep going.
One member blunders around, crossing boundaries between personal and professional, while others are numbed by grief.
Kate, though, feels new energy coursing through her as she reassesses her life and plans for the future.
While she steps on other people’s toes, Adam must find a way to break bad news to Xander.
For some reason, Adam thinks the lad would be cheered up by a trip to the River Am; probably best not to mention the mass fish poisoning carried out by Brian not that long ago.
Meanwhile, Lilian keeps her distance from certain members of the family.

ILoveShula · 05/02/2023 16:53

Thanks Asking.
Maybe this is the week that Ruairi gets together with Paul Mack.
Is Joy the new recruit?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/02/2023 17:46

I think "Susan's new recruit" is still Justin, isn't it?

Gonners · 05/02/2023 18:14

06 Feb ... Alice offers some support.

Words to fill the most hardened listener with dread.

ILoveShula · 05/02/2023 19:43

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime , yes. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.
@Gonners , I love Alice.

JanglyBeads · 05/02/2023 22:51

Hmm is Alice going to try berating Julianne? I do hope so!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/02/2023 14:33

Many thanks, Asking! I'm puzzled by this bad news Adam has to break to Xander. Surely he's already been told about his grandmother?
