Thanks Asking. Look after yourself.

I think I may have gone mad; I definitely remember collecting all these together on Saturday ready to post, and I must then simply have forgotten to do it, plus closing the file they were sitting ready in and not keeping it. Gaah. Onset of senility, or at least a senior moment. Anyway; better late than never.

Christmas Radio Times Diary 19th - 30th December 2021
Regular episodes of The Archers will capture the rehearsals, upsets and first-night nerves of all those taking part in Lynda Snell's take on medieval drama, before The Ambridge Mystery Plays are aired. The local Thespians perform their version of the Christmas story on Boxing Day 3pm R4, with their second play, The Passion, set to be broadcast on Sunday 2 January 2022.
As for events in the village, well, fans should be braced for the return of two old faces. But will everyone be pleased to see them?
Alan, under pressure to honour all of his many community commitments, finds himself on the receiving end of a lot of love from his flock. And after a tumultuous year of heartache and stress, Kirsty finally gets a message of hope.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 19th - 30th December 2021
This Yuletide, Ambridge feels like a village in an early medieval painting full of little figures struggling through a winter landscape. Hazel - a wolf in Woolley clothing, with her constant circling of the village and licking of her lips - has everyone bolting their doors and barring their windows. They fear that she will spend this darkest part of the year peering into every home, looking for fresh victims.
Meanwhile, Holy Man Alan frets about his flocks. He's overwhelmed by his many seasonal duties, and rushes about his parishes trying to spread the Christmas spirit and keep the forces of darkness at bay. Then, lo and behold, a flock of angels descends, and Ambridge's vicar finds himself transported through his good works on a cloud of love.
Harrison's duties make him far less popular than Alan, but - lo and behold again - it seems that a saviour might step forward for the lawman and make a better man of him.
Kirsty finally gets a message of hope, while Lynda and her band of players come wending through this landscape of wolves and angels, ready to perform their ancient Mysteries.
Over at The Bull, a spectre at the feast threatens to spread a chill, while on the edges of this rural scene, two figures from the past head towards Ambridge, sending the villagers' nerves, already on edge by the return of Hazel, into a total frazzle.

Can anyone explain "Lynda seeks divine justice" on Sunday?
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/12/2021 15:52

No. Sunday's episode was so dire I've already wiped it from what I laughingly call my memory.

Thanks for the spoilers, Asking!

Thanks Asking

Who are the two old faces?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/12/2021 19:42

No idea as yet. Nobody this week, anyway.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/12/2021 19:43

Oh, right; one is next week, Mike Tucker, Vicky isn't in the cast list but I suppose she might silently be the other.

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/12/2021 19:46

Ah! Thank you. Just looked at the epiaode guide. Think Alice will walk in on Aimless & Kristiffur then hit the bottle

GoodPrincessWenceslas · 22/12/2021 17:05

How would Mike's return send the villagers into a frazzle?

Could it be Knob or Urshula?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/12/2021 17:34

Clive? or Keith?

I felt moved to check it really was the same Mike. It is! Trying not to get excited by all the work he’s getting involved in during his stay - it didn’t stop the SWs sending Blake on his way. Lovely to hear him again.

*Or, at least for Thursday 30th …

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/12/2021 20:10

Oh good; I had forgotten about it again so well done you.

KimikosNightmare · 30/12/2021 04:20

Ruairi surely isn't the other figure from the past?

And who was the spectre at The Bull?

Can anyone explain "Lynda seeks divine justice" on Sunday?

No, me neither.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 2nd - 6th January 2022
When Alice and Chris take Martha for a fairy-tale day out, the atmosphere remains festive, with not a hint of the post-Christmas blues to be heard. Suddenly, though, a happy ending is snatched away from them and events spiral out of control - but will Alice be led back into temptation as a result?
Village returnee Mike Tucker is a popular man and it’s clear that he, too, is hungry for as much company as possible. But there’s more to this sense of bonhomie than meets the eye. And tensions are rising at Bridge Farm, where a houseful is trying (and failing) to play happy families. Finally, a crisis at the dairy curdles Susan’s face, but you’ll have to wait to discover the effect on the yogurt.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 2nd - 6th January 2022
Mike Tucker is, for reasons not yet entirely clear, back. Once known as the ‘milkman from Hell’, he comes with a back story of bankruptcy, depression, attempted suicide, the loss of an eye, the loss of a wife and a serious car accident - so he’s just the ticket for post-Christmas gloom. Mike seems anxious for company, but why is he back, and where are the rest of the Tuckers?
Alice, who is also back in the village, joins her much put-upon husband for a perfect day out with Little Martha. Everything seems fine at first - but then, it all goes horribly wrong. Meanwhile, as we all guessed, the new set-up at Bridge Farm also goes horribly wrong.

============================================================================

It all seems about as cheerful as the BBC generally is at the moment, in fact.

WhoppingBigBackside · 01/01/2022 18:36

Thanks Asking.

Kristiffur & Aimless. Mark my words.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/01/2022 18:53

Thanks, Asking! I must admit, I could have done with a cheery, light,-hearted story to start the year off.

KimikosNightmare · 04/01/2022 19:50

Eh? Did I doze off and miss this?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/01/2022 22:13

Between 1986 and 2010 Mike went bankrupt, suffered depression, lost an eye, attempted both suicide and arson. His wife of over thirty years died. He was injured and hospitalised by being knocked down by a drunk in charge of a car.

That is (part of) Mike's back story.

BorsetshireBanality · 06/01/2022 12:32

The drunk was Helen and Tom was persuaded to say he was the driver.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/01/2022 14:08

I have a couple of thoughts to put below, but I haven't yet got the Mail spoilers; I'll add them when (if) I have them. They may clarify things a little, after all.

BBC One-Liners
9 Jan Pat attempts to bite her tongue while Alice sticks her neck out.
10 Jan Fears are faced at Bridge Farm and Roy uncovers a secret.
11 Jan Ed makes his feelings known and Mike’s painting the town red.
12 Jan Peggy’s kindness knows no bounds and Amy lends her shoulder.
13 Jan Mike tries to make amends while Hazel makes trouble.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 9th - 13th January 2022
It's Pat's 70th birthday, so Tom & Natasha organise a family lunch. But Pat doesn't see all her gifts as thoughtful kindnesses, and as one Bridge Farm resident's idea of a present meets with disapproval, tempers boil over.
Over at Home Farm, Stella tries to set some boundaries when one employee makes his feelings plain. But there's no saying she'll negotiate her way out of things without causing upset.
Mike, meanwhile, appears willing to help everyone out and even offers his services for free. But is he really as reliable as customers believe him to be? Enter son Roy, who attempts to figure out if his dad is being economical with the truth.

===========================================================================

I think I was right about Stella not being over the moon about being expected to give make-work to the boss's potentially useless daughter, and I'm reasonably sure Ed won't be happy to work with, or worse for, Alice, who got him sacked once before for her own drunken mistake. On the whole, I don't blame either of them if that's what is going on here.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 08/01/2022 14:27

Amy, Mike and Hazel all appearing in the same week! Someone’s on a nostalgia-fest!

Whatever has prompted them to recall all these people at once?

Sorry to see Johnny and Helen (and her sons) will all be ‘washing up in the kitchen’ during Pat’s festivities …

Thank you, Asking.
