I think she was quite keen on it when Nigel was toying with the idea, to be fair, but not as much as Caroline was.

WhoppingBigBackside · 03/09/2021 14:58

I've just been looking at the Episode Guide. Looks like a interesting September.

I think Susan will realise that Shula is the problem in her marriage, other than the parenting of a young baby.

I think that Alice is leaving.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/09/2021 17:07

Ooh! That sounds promising on both counts Smile

WhoppingBigBackside · 03/09/2021 17:44

If Alice was leaving because she had realised that lack of fulfilment was the root cause of her alcoholism, it would give some reason to why Kristiffur got a personality change and turned into Neamderthal man.

I've commented on t'other thread about married man single woman friendships leading to EAs. Seen it too many times IRL.

Another possibility is that they find out that Marthyr has FAS.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/09/2021 21:35

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 5th - 9th September 2021
Chris needs support when the rehab clinic contacts him with news that leaves him with a dilemma. As Brian and Jennifer are dragged into the situation, it's soon clear that what they do next could make all the difference to Alice's recovery. But with the stakes so high, will they end up doing the right thing?
Elsewhere, there's big drama for Susan thanks to a terrible realisation. And Eddie hatches one of his cunning plans to honour what would have been Joe's 100th birthday - but his scheme is set to leave others duped.
Finally, one strong Ambridge friendship is under threat, while Ben frets about the effects of telling the truth after becoming trapped in his own web of lies.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 5th - 9th September 2021
The whole shaky and unconvincing Carter/Archer/Aldridge alliance comes under even greater strain this week. Susan, having smelt the whiff of re-poked embers from the long-dampened flames of romance between Neil and Shula, has been on edge for weeks; now she comes to a terrible realisation. It will leave her worried about her and Neil's future - and, this being Susan, she'll worry about who's fault it all is.
On top of all this, her strapping farrier son has to deal with a tricky call from his wife's rehab clinic, leaving Brian and Jennifer in a quandary about doing the right thing for their troubled daughter.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/09/2021 07:37

Many thanks, Asking!

Oliver's back - no doubt to be involved in some way in the latest Grundy scam. Hmm.

Susan and Shula for the confrontation?

Amy speaking this week too - is Alice proposing to go there when she leaves rehab?

It can't be a worse week than we've just endured, so fingers crossed!

Thanks Asking
Shula and Susan for the confrontation.
Looked up the Amy actor and she deoesn't look like how I imagine Amy.

Edmontine · 05/09/2021 13:09

How did you imagine her?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/09/2021 13:40

I see Amy has been played by three different actors over the years - Jennifer Daley currently, formerly played by Vinette Robinson and Natalia Cappuccini. It's been so long since we heard her that I'd forgotten all of that, although I assume I must have known it once. Is Jennifer Daley the same actor who played her the last time she was on, however many years ago that was? The voice sounded right.

OP posts:
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/09/2021 15:47

2013, and yes, same actor then.

Amy moved to the village in 2003 and was played by Natalia Keery-Fisher (one of that actor/singer's many professional names over the years, which makes looking her up fairly horrendous) for what looks like a fairly short while the last mention I can find of NK-F in the Archers castlists in the Genome is in January 2004 and Natalia Cappuchini doesn't appear in TA castlists at all, though she may have used one of her other names to be in TA under after 2004 if so it must have been one she adopted specially for the role, and Amy Franks is often known simply as "Amy" in the cast-lists at that point, which makes looking her up a nightmare.

After that Amy was played by Vinette Robinson at least from early 2008 until September 2011, and then Jennifer Daley from March 2012 onwards.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 12th - 16th September 2021
Self-destructive Alice is trying to keep her emotions in check with Chris. But Alice isn't the only member of the Aldridge clan in focus this week: after a protracted falling out, might there finally be some light at the end of the tunnel for Peggy and Jennifer?
Meanwhile, there's a near miss at Honeysuckle Cottage, which leaves Adam and Ian fearing that their situation is untenable. But with their options running out, it's left to Ian to come up with a drastic solution. And, as Eddie continues his assault on the villagers, someone else is roped into his scheme. Enter Oliver Stirling - but might the pair be left with a bloodbath?

============================================================================

A drastic solution like paying for childcare, even in Ambridge and with a living grandmother who ought to make herself available for the task, yea, though she may have exceeded her allotted span of threescore years and ten by many years?

ILoveShula · 13/09/2021 14:27

Thanks AQAAT

Peggy could look after Dander, after all she isn't doing much is she?

ILoveShula · 13/09/2021 14:40

I don't understand Eddie's ruse to get everything F&P won by a Grundy

If only Grundys enter then it won't be much of a show.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/09/2021 16:19

I don't for a moment suppose that just getting three or four people not to enter would make much difference: there are nine hundred or more people in Ambridge, after all, and most of them probably never give Eddie the time of day let alone remember Joe with the slightest kindness -- if they ever met him, they probably thought he was a frightful old scrounger, and see no reason to go on and on and on about him. He wasn't even the oldest inhabitant.

ILoveShula · 13/09/2021 16:34

Anyone else would have given a 'In memory of' prize to give away, but freeloader Eddie wouldn't

ILoveShula · 13/09/2021 16:40

Maybe what will happen is that the Grundys win nothing anyway and some silent will scoop the lot apart from The Bull winning with their hanging baskets

Madcats · 14/09/2021 20:13

I chose to visit the Frome Cheese Show on Saturday (a rung down from the County Shows). They do have a flower and produce tent alongside livestock and cheese and children on ponies etc.

The craft section is the one prospective winners should go for; there were a few categories where there was a single entry (forget about 6 bantam eggs or leeks)! There was a "very Frome" prolific knitter who entered several categories of knitted groups.

Thanks Madcats

I once entered a competition with no other entrants. Mummy's idea. I was only a child.

I didn't get a prize.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/09/2021 20:38

I have now been sent the Mail's offering, so here it is:

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 12th - 15th September 2021
The Aldridge family used to talk so loud, the Aldridge family used to walk so proud; now, two of them scuffle out of the village, anxious to avoid all eyes as they make a harrowing journey across the Borsetshire countryside. They hope that this grim pilgrimage might put things right, but there’s more than a chance that their journey will end in bitterness and regret.
Kenton and Jolene, brought to the brink by Covid, cast a cold eye over the ashes of their business, then dust themselves down and get ready to start all over again.
There will, however, be no starting all over again for two sworn enemies who come face to face this week.

================================
The only enemies I can think of are Emma and

well, anyone who is better off than Emma, but in this case probably Alice.

Droite · 14/09/2021 23:40

I wish someone would point out to Eddie that a prize you've had to earn by nobbling the opposition isn't worth having.

Madcats · 17/09/2021 09:57

Just thought I'd look at the aforementioned Cheese Show to check out the prizes. For "eggs" entry costs £1 and 1st prize is £4. There are some silver cups that you keep for a year. Some of the fruit and veg classes win you a fiver.

It's a bit more lucrative for the trade entries/professionals.

What comes next in the Ambridge calendar - Halloween?

The key advantage is that you save £5 on show tickets.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/09/2021 13:26

I think I am giving up on the Mail for the time being; if I don't get sent it, I don't get it and cannot pass it on. If it turns up later in the week I'll post it then.

BBC One-Liners
19 Sep Jennifer fears the worst and there’s a twist at the Flower and Produce Show.
20 Sep Joy brings worrying news and Chris attempts to move forwards.
21 Sep The walls close in on Lee and Fallon faces an uphill struggle.

23 Sep The Aldridges are in shock and there’s a sad goodbye at the Stables.

Beechwood may seem a desirable neighbourhood, but the residents' WhatsApp group is a hotbed of jealousy and loathing. Now Joy brings some disconcerting news to Lee's door - and it becomes clear that he and Tony will have to tell Helen the truth about what's been going on. But how will she react?
At the Flower & Produce Show, Kenton & Eddie jostle for prime position. Inevitably, Eddie's nefarious scheme becomes public knowledge, but what is the shock twist that looks set to change the event for ever?
Elsewhere, the Aldridges are stunned by Alice's drama, while Chris' friends are under stress after they find out just how badly he's taking things.

ILoveShula · 19/09/2021 17:24

Thanks Asking

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/09/2021 18:54

Thanks, Asking! I can't remember the name of the nasty man on the Beechwood WhatsApp group, but I don't think his name is there anyway.
